Hermit crabs need both a fresh and saltwater pool. In the wild the crabs would drink out of freshwater streams and when they were by the ocean they would get a drink and maybe take a bath. When setting up pools, they need to be easy to get out of (even though they have modified gills they can still drown). The pools need to be deep enough for them to fully submerge in.
