Boy were we excited for todays MTNdog adventure. Bronco showed us his range singing 🎶 all the way there, hitting the high notes accompanying Cache. Freyja kept quiet, but you know she was tapping her paws 🐾 to the boys’ beats🎤🪘. The trail was equally as entertaining 🤭

🌧️❤️🙏 day walk with Bronco & Cache. Bronco’s made great improvements since joining us, including:
✅ greatly improved recall
✅ confidence crossing bridges
✅ learning patience and sit for his treats
✅ confidence going in the water
✅ greater independence, especially when off-trail.

We’ll that was fun! Bronco, Freyja & Cache had a great time together 🫶. What started out as an incentive to get Bronco to wade in the water and cool down, turned into the best game ever. We spent about 20 minutes hunting for treats in the water 💦❤️🐾🐾 Thanks for the great adventure MTNdogs

Working with this pup on muzzle training. She is a sweet sweet dog rescued from Mexico. Cache & her are good buds, but she does struggle with other dogs and can be unpredictable. Unfortunately sometimes dog’s experience negative circumstances, especially as puppies, that can impact them well into adulthood. Based on genetics it can come out as a flight or fight reaction. Nurture and the right training can help them learn to be neutral rather than reactive. Reactivity can come out in many forms from incessant barking, over-excitement, aggression, fear/running away, etc. When dogs get into these states of over-arousal they can’t think, can’t listen/obey and it can take hours for them to come back down. This is great for survival, but waaay too stressful to be operating in this state on a daily basis. It’s mentally unhealthy for the dog and also very taxing on their owners.

We are using techniques like kennel time in the car, to help her not be on high-alert. If she’s coming out of the car for a walk and she’s already at a 6-7/10 it doesn’t take much for her to get to 8-10. Starting off calm & maintaining that mindset is much easier and healthier for the dog. If you want to learn meditation or yoga, it takes practice. It’s no different for our dogs. If we let them practice being over stimulated for a long time, we can’t just expect them to flip the switch. Next we work on being neutral around other dogs using positive engagement and listening to the dog at what distance she’s comfortable with/able to stay focused on you and neutral. Short sessions with rest breaks in the kennel are key.

Lastly time off at home, in a kennel with something to chew or lick is very soothing. And again helps the dog unwind and realize she doesn’t need yo be on guard.

Today was fluffy tail adventure day, and we welcomed Loki 🐾❤️. Cache & I think she gets full marks for cuteness 🥰. Loki is working on her recall & fun sit stays/focus games with us. Once she figured there were treats involved, she was all in!!😋

Wow what a difference! So proud of Kisa, working on her recall and resource guarding. We only use positive reinforcement training, the longline is to keep her honest and the muzzle is to help her learn she doesn’t need to use aggression to get treats.

Today we welcomed Kisa to the pack 🐾🐾 Cache & I helped her work on learning a calm and engaged (with the human) demeanour around food. Kisa’s go-to has been resource guarding, so today she worked on being calm, looking at me and gently taking the treat. She even learnt to wait when it was Cache’s turn for treats! Good girl ❤️
