There’s lots of things we love about Lorenzo, but one loveable quirk we can’t help but giggle at is the way he sits on the cat tree!

It doesn’t look at all comfortable to us, but it’s the way he likes it! 🐈‍⬛

Shai and Riaan are loving spending time in their new personalised kennels! But as you can see, they are equally happy indoors, particularly snoozing together on the sofa 🐕

Uh oh, Lockie’s found his way into a bag of catnip! Let the fun begin 😸

Lockie is living his best life at Lola’s Sanctuary. He came to us after being taken to a vet due to being hit by a car. Unfortunately he had to have his leg amputated, but as you can see it doesn’t stop him from getting into mischief!

While many people are acting on New Year’s resolutions to be more active or cut down on the treats after the festive binge, our cats are quite happy with the status quo: cuddling up on the sofa!

Despite the chilly temperatures, Shai and Riaan still enjoy spending plenty of time outside. Here they are catching some winter rays ☀️

It’s important to ensure dogs still get plenty of exercise outdoors in cold temperatures. Some shorter-haired breeds or puppies may need to wear a coat to keep them comfortable, and it’s a good idea to wipe your dog’s feet when you return to remove any ice, snow or grit.

If your dog likes spending time outdoors, make sure they have access to shelter to warm up and ensure they don’t spend too long in cold temperatures. ❄️🐾

We once again helped our friends at The Neuter Project during their latest neutering drive, in which 12 kittens and one ferret from local animal rescues were spayed and neutered! 👏

We’re huge fans of what this team of volunteers do - not just for the animals they work with, but for the rescue organisations they support by offering neutering for free.

Animal rescues like ours are under huge financial strain, and with the cost of neutering a kitten ranging from £50-£100 on average, The Neuter Project’s valuable work removes some of this financial pressure.

Thanks again to The Neuter Project team for letting us help out (and for the cuddles!)

🎆 Ahead of the New Year’s Eve fireworks, here are some things you can do to keep your animals safe:

🐾 Make sure your animal’s microchip details are up-to-date, so it is easier to find them just in case they run away.

🐾 Walk your dog before it gets dark, giving them plenty of time to sniff and explore to tire them out.

🐾 Keep your animals inside after dark.

🐾 Close your windows and curtains/blinds to block out any firework flashes.

🐾 Play some relaxing music.

🐾 Make your animal a cosy den to hide in.

🐾 Speak to your vet about suitable calming supplements for your animal.

Do you wonder how Father Christmas knows who’s been ‘naughty’ or ‘nice’? 🎅

Well, he has his spies, and they’re always keeping an eye on you!

We suspect Totton may be one of them. As Christmas approaches, all of our volunteers and residents are on their best behaviour!

Would you consider sponsoring Totton? Sponsors will receive regular updates about what he’s been up to, and you’ll be helping fund his care. Visit the link in our bio 🔗

Happy Gotcha Day Coco! ❤️🐾

When one of our wonderful volunteers adopted Nugget the cat from us in November 2020, it didn't take long for Nugget to win over the cat she already had - Nugget’s new feline sibling - with flirtation and what we affectionately call the ‘Nugget Flop’. 😹

Then, in December 2022, the same volunteer fell in love with and adopted a dog we’d recently taken in to Lola’s Sanctuary - Coco. But introducing Coco to her new furry family members wasn't the same easy experience as with Nugget.

Neither cat came downstairs for over two months when Coco came home. Coco’s arrival put a real strain on the family and they weren’t sure if they could make it work.

However, our volunteer understood that these things take time and was committed to helping her animal companions feel safe and comfortable. After going right back to basic introductions, it took another month for the cats to be brave enough to start venturing downstairs!

Fast forward two years to today… Coco and Nugget aren’t quite best friends yet but both cats now feel comfortable around Coco and Nugget likes to give Coco adorable head bops!

Coco and Nugget’s story is an important reminder that patience and understanding are essential to adopting animals. It’s not always an easy ride, but it’s so worthwhile to change an animal’s life for the better. Thanks to a lot of love and dedication, this little family is now thriving together. ❤️

The festive season can be bittersweet, as we remember those we've lost over the last 12 months.

Although they will always be in our thoughts, it's at this point in the year we'd like to pay a special tribute to the Lola's Sanctuary residents and friends who've travelled across the rainbow bridge.

There will always be a special place in our hearts for Logan, Archie, Rafiki, Sahana, Princess, Bruno, Kallie, Maddi and River ❤️🌈

We recently supported our friends at The Neuter Project by helping out as they neutered guinea pigs, rabbits and ferrets ❤️

These small animals can breed at alarmingly high rates; rabbits for example can have up to 7 litters per year, with an average litter size of 4-5!

Neutering is also extremely important for the health of these animals. The reproductive health of ferrets in particular needs careful attention, as unneutered females who come into heat can become anaemic, which can be life threatening. Neutering both male and female ferrets is so important for the health of these sociable little creatures.

A huge thank you to The Neutering Project for all the amazing work they do!

The residents of Lola’s Sanctuary are always excited at meal times, and Shai is no different! The cat flap is very handy for snooping purposes 🔎
