Dexter has been having some extra curriculum activities with myself, we've been focusing on his socialisation as he is an excitable boy😅

On our regular walks we've been focusing on loose leash walking and his focus for the past few weeks, his wonderful owners have been carrying this on at home and he's made tremendous progress! In the afternoons, we go to different places and observe what is going on from a distance. We are in the process of learning that he does not have to be involved in every situation and that it's okay not to say hello to every dog, smell every tree and chase every bird.
Today he was an absolute super star, settling quite quickly even though there was a lot going on in the background - dogs, people, cyclists, horses.
A lot of people tend to think that socialising your dog means that they need to play with all the dogs and say hi to all the people, however the very essence of it is to have your dog be in a social setting without displaying signs of stress or overarousal.
Its been so great to have this opportunity to explore dog training and behaviour, and even more so rewarding to see positive changes take place💚

Remember, if it’s too hot for your hands or your bare feet, then it’s too hot for their paw pads! ⚠️

If you’re unsure whether it’s okay to let your pet go for a walk on pavements, a simple way to test the temperature is by holding your bare skin on the tarmac for five seconds ⏱️

If you find it painful, then your pet will find it painful to walk on!

To protect your pet, it’s best to avoid walks during the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 8am and 6pm. If you can't safely exercise your dog, missing a day won't hurt.

Any dog can do heel training, but not every dog can look this cute doing it💁‍♀️
