A little more info about Penny...she is the only merle we've ever produced with this "look", When she was a newborn, she reminded us of neopolitan ice cream ;) . Rhona is the only girl here who can produce such a merle...beautiful.

These cuties from Darby and Vic's litter are thriving! Darby is a first time momma and tending to them nonstop. I have to force her to come out of the whelping box to socialize, go for walks, and simply take a break! I'm so proud of her!

TITLE: Why teaching your dog the WAIT command is so handy!

Darby, a first time momma, blessed OSA with 7 healthy puppies today and a unique story about waiting...

For those of you that follow us closely, know that this weekend is Rhona 's go home for her litter. At 11:45 Steve let Darby out to potty prior to the arrival of Bosco's new family at noon. Luckily for us they got a little lost on the way here because when I checked on Darby at 11:52 she was having contractions in the master bathroom!

So I went into type A mode and hustled around to make final preparations. The tricky part was I needed to still move Indi's litter out of the whelping room and I hadn't set up her space yet!

As I was racing around the house, I would pop in to check on Darby about every 3 to 4 minutes. Each time I would say, "Darby, please wait. Wait." She looked at me and just laid there quietly pausing her contractions.

I've heard from other dog breeders that females can decide when they are going to have their puppies, I was definitely experiencing this for the first time today. Every time I checked in on her she calmed her body down. However, she had an anxious look in her eyes telling me to (please) hurry.

Finally the waiting was over and at 12:24 I told her that the whelping room was ready for her. She followed me eagerly into the box.

2 minutes later a beautiful blue merle boy was born. 💙

As I write this story, I'm sitting in the whelping box watching beautiful Darby resting as she nurses her 7 pups. I'm proud of her, knowing that she waited because of the bond we have together.

In regards to Bosco's family coming today, they arrived around 12:40. They got to experience the excitement of the birthing process as we gave them a play by play as puppies arrived, all while they bonded with Bosco in the great room.

I feel blessed...What a beautiful day...

Indi's Final Litter's Livestream!

Indi, my (Steve's) "heart dog", is having her final litter. Words fail to express well enough just how I feel about her but, while I am sad it'll be her last, I am appreciative of the beautiful pups she's produced and am happy she'll now be able to enjoy her "retirement"!
