We have been truly blessed this year. There has been so much growth, joy, and unforgettable moments. Through all the ups and downs, we’ve been reminded how lucky we are to do what we love and to share this journey together.

As the dog training couple, we’ve had the privilege of working with so many wonderful dogs and their amazing families. Seeing the progress and the smiles has been the most rewarding part of our year.

The right gear can make all the difference! We recommend investing in a high-quality leash, and leather is our go-to choice. Why? It’s durable, gentle on your hands, and doesn’t cause leash burn when your dog pulls unexpectedly. Plus, it ages beautifully! 🌟

Don’t forget a treat pouch! 🐶 Carrying treats in your pocket might seem convenient, but the smell can tempt your pup into nibbling on your pants mid-training session (trust us, it happens!). A treat pouch keeps your rewards easily accessible and your pockets safe. 🦴

Even though puppy biting may be a natural phase, it’s definitely not everyone’s favorite to deal with. It’s important to guide your new puppy to proper behavior. Here are some essential steps you can start incorporating to curb those sharp teeth. The first thing is to redirect with a toy. When your puppy starts to bite your hands and thinks that is what they can play with, immediately redirect their attention to one of their toys. This teaches them what’s appropriate to bite and what’s not. This will also satisfy their natural need to chew. Make sure you’re using positive reinforcement. Rewarding your puppy with treats, praise or playtime when they use their toys instead of biting you. Consistent positive reinforcement encourages them to repeat that good behavior. If you feel like your puppy is biting more during rough playtime, you can also encourage more interactive activities like training or fetch to redirect their energy. It may seem like the puppy stage never ends but you just need to be patient and consistent. Biting is a part of their learning process and journey but being patient and clear with your boundaries will help them grow into a well mannered dog.

Last week, we visited the Lincoln Park Animal Shelter and got to work hands-on with some of the amazing dogs waiting for their forever homes. 🐾

Each dog had unique training needs and we can’t wait to be able to go back and continue working with them.

Training can make all the difference in building confidence, reducing anxiety, and helping shelter dogs show off their best behaviors to future families. We loved seeing their unique personalities come to life as they learned new skills like sitting politely, leash manners, and staying focused in busy environments.
