MSU CVM in Uganda - Summer 2022

Next, we traveled to Mbarara on June 24-25th. Here are Dr. Stephen Reichley's pictures from our time. We stayed at Igongo Cultural Centre & Country Hotel, a very welcoming place. During our time we visited local farms, a milk and yogurt plant, a slaughterhouse, and Nshaara Ranch - a government farm focused on conserving the genetics of the local ankole cattle.

Several of the group made the trip to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, staying in Ruhija. It was much colder up in the mountains and forest, but we had a great time gorilla trekking, visiting with Dr. Ricky from Gorilla Doctors, and spending time in the local community. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip! We did our best to take photos of the gorillas, but it was difficult with all the plants. Here are photos from Dr. Stephen Reichley.

After Kibale, we visited Queen Elizabeth National Park. Dr. Eric was a fantastic host, we visited a fishing village, went on a wildlife viewing boat ride, and immobilized a water buffalo! Here are photos from Dr. Stephen Reichley.

Dr. Stephen Reichley slacked yesterday and didn’t share his photos. Here they are for Saturday’s trip to Jinja to visit Yalelo Uganda, Uganda’s largest tilapia farm.

A special thanks to all the employees of Yalelo for being so welcoming, especially on a Saturday. We really enjoyed the fish health presentation and tour of the farm, including a boat ride out to the cages on Lake Victoria. It was a great time!

Followed by a wonderful time at Vetpal Animal Clinic, thanks so much for welcoming us! We had lunch at an American-type cafe and then some shopping at an arts and crafts market!
