Next horse feature for the Ft. Worth Stock Show is Freyja! She is owned by Mackenzie Durbin of Sálmur Icelandic Horses. Freyja is an evaluated five gait mare, who can fly in tölt about as fast as she can pace! 💥 Her long stride and power make her an impressive addition to the Knights of Iceland team. At home, Freyja is the boss mare of her barn, and in between training for competitions, she gives lessons to beginner students.

FUN FACT: we were actually not sure if Freyja could pace until we started using her for Knights of Iceland practice last year 🫢 once she showed us what she was capable of, she secured her spot on the team immediately! 😎

🎁🤩 Meet Froði frá Kvístum 🤩🎁

a big, beautiful 10 year-old gelding with lots of tolt, trot and easy pace. Out of world famous first-prize stallion, Ómur frá Kvistum (9.5 for pace, 9.5 for Spirit)- this future five gait star is looking for his next ambitious partner.

Froði stands tall at about 14 hands (141 cm) and moves with roomy, expressive strides. When riding him, each gait is easy to find and can be ridden on a loose rein - which speaks both to the politeness of Froði’s natural demeanor and the quality of his bloodlines.

Under saddle, Froði is always agreeable and waiting for you. Since he was imported to the U.S. in 2022, Froði’s education continued under the support of well-known classical dressage trainer, Michele Arana, who helped polish his understanding of the aids. Their routine training sessions focused on moving forward with lightness and in physical & mental balance. In the last two years, Froði has also been trail ridden out in groups and out alone with no concerns.

His impression under saddle is striking and powerful, yet on the ground Froði is quiet and patient. He has happily stood still while children have given him long baths, and his manners for vet & farrier are impeccable. Froði is very affectionate and loves to be groomed, scratched, massaged and doted on.

While he waits for his new owner, Froði is developing his five gaits under the full time training of Mackenzie Durbin at Sálmur Icelandic Horses. Coupled with his naturally long strides, we believe he is going to make someone an excellent partner for five gait.

Considerations for Interested Parties:

Froði is forward and sensitive, so he needs a riding partner with confident & systematic aids, who can consider his sensitivity with tact. His ideal future would be to continue him in a professional training program where he can be developed to his potential as a five gait competition horse. Therefore, intermediate level and up is recommended.

All we can say is… WOW! 2024 Fall Gamankeppni showed out with over 40 horse & rider combinations 🤩 for many in our community, this weekend set personal records.

For many - this weekend was their first time competing!

For some - this weekend was a return to the track after some time off.

For all - this weekend was unforgettable,
filled with new & familiar faces,
and of course,
incredible horses. 🐴

THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time, energy and resources to make this event happen. The generosity and camaraderie of this community is truly special. Cheers to many more Gamankeppnis! 🍻
