This little cutie is Clementine. She is currently being treated for a heart condition and has developed a stone. The x-rays, appointments, and medication already cost $800, and we would appreciate any help in getting her continued care, as our medical funds are so low!

Winning the lottery? Meh
Winning the affections of a prey animal? Best. Feeling. Ever.

Rodents can show trust and affection a little differently than cats and dogs! 🥰

Being ‘prey’ species, their behaviours can generally be more subtle…

So, how might we know if our rodent fully trusts us? How do we know they are comfortable and happy?

• As we’ve said, rodents are prey species, and programmed to feel vulnerable when they are not on ‘full alert’ and ready to spot potential threats. If your rodent often sleeps or rests around you or even on you, it means they completely trust you are not a threat to them, and that you will look out for them! (Adorable) ☺️

• Taking treats from you means they are comfortable to let their guard down again, as eating will also reduce the likelihood they will quickly spot potential predators.

• If your rodent is approaching you and actively starting an interaction, whether that be for food, attention or play time, they trust you and know that you bring positive rewards! Whether that is cuddles, tasty food, exercise or enrichment. They want to spend time with you! 🩷

• Happy behaviours such as boggling, bruxing or popcorning are all great signs that your rodent is having a very fun time with you! (Just ensure they are bruxing in comfort/happiness and not pain or stress).

Gaining our rodent’s trust can sometimes be difficult, especially if they are a rescue with an unknown history. However, it is so worth the time and patience. The bonds we develop with our rodent companions are so special and meaningful- they are intelligent, complex animals with so much love to give! 😃

Meeko (more white) and Totoro are 3-year-old bonded boys. They enjoy their veggies and will remind you when it’s veggie time.

Totoro is the leader of the pack. He is curious and enjoys head scratches. Meeko is known to break out into popcorns and loves his Oxbow vitamin C treats. These boys come with a 2x4 c&c and huts.

If you haven't tried using a paper bag for your guinea pigs yet, you're missing out! Paper bags can be great fun for pigs, especially when stuffed with hay or forage for the trifecta of fun: food, enrichment, and snoozing!

Peanut and Mimi checking in!

Peanut gave birth to Mimi in the rescue when Peanut was about 9 months old. Now they are about 1.9 and 1 year old and very bonded.

If you are looking for a sweet, bonded pair of girls, look no further. These girls will do great in any home and all they ask for in return is some TLC and veggies.

Facebook says today is Relaxation Day. We can't think of an image that encapsulates this day any better than Bisque showing off his pancake face!

Also, who scheduled Relaxation Day on a THURSDAY!? Probably a guinea pig.
