So how do you take a virtual lesson?
Often when I mention this to people, I get a hesitant response because 1) People are sick to death of anything virtual or 2) they just don't think it's the same as having an in person lesson. I've been giving more and more virtual lessons lately, and I'm happy to report that with today's technology, it's not only easy, but can be quite enjoyable to take a virtual lesson. Let me tell you how I do most of my virtual lessons.
First, most of my lessons are done using a Pivo Silver camera https://getpivo.com/?ref=rvdx2hqhhl. These remarkable little pods can be purchased for under $200 for the complete package. The Pivo can be used to film your ride (using your smart phone) or it can also be used for virtual lessons with the Pivo Meet app. Once you've sent a link to me, I can click on it and teach you from my laptop - anywhere I can get a good signal. Speaking of a good signal - this is necessary to have a successful Pivo lesson. If you have both Wifi and a good data connection at your barn -choose the one that you think is the most reliable.
Once I have clicked on the link, I can control the camera remotely from my location including zooming in and out. As for how you hear me when you are riding your horse, some people have great luck with earpods. I personally think it's easier if you use a second phone on speaker, or with earbuds and just call my phone directly. This way we always have a secure connection even if data cuts out. Multiple students can ride in one lesson just by using an additional phone and setting up a group call. Once this is set up, you ride your horse and I talk in your ear as if I were in the arena with you (only it's probably easier to hear me!). Message me if you'd like to give this a try or would like more information!
