🚨CODE RED🚨

We must clear at least 30 kennels ASAP. For us to say we're over capacity is an understatement. We are in critical need of adopters, fosters, and rescues. We continue to take in more than is being adopted out, sent to rescue, or put into foster. If we don't have a significant number of dogs leave the shelter today, we will be forced to make extremely difficult decisions.

Please visit the shelter during our open hours to adopt. If you're unable to adopt and you are a current foster who has been through orientation, please email [email protected] if you have the space in your home to help us clear kennel space. All adoptions are $97 and includes spay/neuter, vet exam, vaccinations, and a microchip.

💔The definition of my broken heart.
Olaf is the longest stay at the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. The picture on the left is after about a week at the shelter, the picture on the left was taken by me yesterday while I had him in the yard. His big powerful pittie head is sunken in, he’s all bones, and he has the texture of dried drool down the fur on his neck where he gets all drooly and anxious when he hears people coming. His body is deteriorating from stress. I literally had to dig so deep to NOT bring him home. His poor defeated eyes are making me so sad. He came in with a brother that was more dominant than him and use to beat him up (see muzzle scars), who has been adopted. This sweet gentle soul needs his own happily ever after. He’s the sweetest wiggle pittie. He’s dog friendly, has been in shelter play groups, and was very happy to meet the two little boys that were in the shelter lobby yesterday. The goodest boy kept all 4 paws on the floor even tho he was so happy to receive the affection. I’ll post his shelter info in the comments. He’s fully vetted, HW-, and microchipped.

Lina thinks the shelter stinks. She hates it there. All the noises and smells makes her crazy. She jumps up and down and off the walls when people walk by trying to catch their attention to take her out, but despite all her efforts, and the end of the day, she’s just a blocky head black dog. The least likely to get out of the shelter. She knows ALL the tricks, has been on fabulous dogs day out and did SO well, and relaxes like melted butter when she gets out of the shelter building. She LOVES car rides and cheeseburgers (hold the onions and sauce please). She prefers to be the only fuzzy kid but loves all the humans. Do you or anyone you know need a sweet overgrown Boston snuggle pup? She sure would like a ticket out of the shelter, preferably one way but a foster would even be ok.

Meet Yule.
Yullie has been at the shelter for 40 days. That isn’t as many in comparison to a few others (that I will post this week) but some dogs handle the environment at the shelter better than others, and Yule is stressed. 💔
He is a beautiful fawn and white pibble that is oh-so soft. He’s very affectionate and would love his own human(s). I haven’t been able to directly test him with other dogs, but staff seems to think based on his behavior walking past kennels of other dogs, that his best home would be as an only fur buddy. He’s a muscle-y knucklehead on the outside and a big smoosh on the inside. (Video in the comments)
❤️please share. Where Yule is so stressed, it’s likely the shelter will request he leaves soon as to not torture him in the shelter. Yule is available for adoption, foster through the shelter, or rescue!

Meet Carson.
Calling all black pittie mix lovers ... wait. Oh right, that’s the least likely dog to be adopted at a shelter. Carson wants to be the exception! He’s officially been at the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter for 💔81 days ... and he’s only about a year old. That’s no fun for a playful boy! Carson LOVES to play. He would make a great addition to a family who has a young bored fur-kid that needs a sibling, or an outgoing family that wants to take him out and about! Carson seems to have potty-training experience, knows sit, and takes treats gently! He can be a little jumpy when he’s excited, so might not be the best fit for a family with little tots at his level. He might be spatially challenged:) This buddy is as sweet as they come. He loves his people, loves other dogs, and loves to live life to the max!
Carson wants to go home. He’s been waiting patiently like a good boy, but his zoomies are ready to go! Maybe you or someone you know needs a Carson in their life?

Winston has gone to rescue! ❤️

Meet Winston.
93 days at San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter for this sweet buddy. He’s just looking for a comfy spot in someone’s home and heart. He’s a well mannered buddy that wishes to be the only pet, and he’s ready for all the love with his super soft coat! He’s up to date on shots, neutered, microchipped and healthy! He has a cosmetic disorder called “vitiligo” in which patches of skin (or hair in Winston’s case) lose its color and turn white. But Winston’s white fur is just as soft as the rest of his coat, so he doesn’t mind! With over 3 months at the shelter, Winston is ready to go home. Maybe you, or someone you know is looking for a buddy like Winston? ❤️
The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is taking precautionary measures during and after the holidays until Jan 11 and allowing adopters only by appointment to allow for social distancing.

Meet Bo.
Bo gets really confused sometimes when people call him by name because it sounds an awfully lot like his favorite thing ever... ball. Bo will fetch a tennis ball for hours, like until his legs fall off! He is the sweetest boy and LOVES his humans. He also seems to be friendly with dogs! The shelter has only had an opportunity to allow him to interact with one other dog directly while on leash, but Bo did excellent. Bo knows sit and takes treats gentle. Bo has been at the shelter for 82 days and some days doesn't even have a chance to play ball:(
Bo would love to go home.
We here at Broken Hearts Club would even sponsor a Chuck It to go home with him so you don't have to exhaust your throwing arm (or touch a slobbery ball). You can meet Bo at San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, and heartworm negative. The shelter is currently only taking adopters into the building by appointment only to minimize the amount of people in the shelter at one time due to Covid, but you can make an appointment at v2.waitwhile.com/l/smrasadoption. Meet Sargent.
He’s one of the longest stays at SMRAS with 90 days in. He’s the super sweetest boy, fully vetted, heartworm negative, and comes preloaded with manners! He knows sit and shake, takes treats gentle, and loves affection. He was very comfortable in the car today when we went to get a puppachino. He was very obviously someone’s buddy at one time in his life. Sargent wants to be an only pup and doesn’t like to share his human with a fur-sibling, but he will be the bestest friend you’ve ever had. If you’ve got space in your heart and home for a big squishy blockhead, please consider adopting Sargent. He’s very sad at the shelter and he’s trying to patiently wait for his forever home, but he’s losing faith. ❤️
