The pools are getting filled with water to soon house the chimelong Russian killer whales.
In the pictures you can see the show pool with an oleage system.
And also the first seats for visitors, placed.
There is not offcial date for the opening, but there is estimated to open in 2022

Breaking news COOKIE GAVE BIRTH at Shanghai.
Orca show was suspended last month in Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, during which an orca cub was born on September 9th. The newborn’s mother is the one called Cookie in the West. The infant is not in good condition after birth:
1️⃣ The mother fails to establish a bond with her cub after giving birth. According to the footage at the time, there were many staff onlookers who might disturb the cub to a certain extent.
2️⃣. The cub did not get breast milk smoothly within 24 hours after birth. After birth, even if the mother wanted to approach the cub, the cub swam in all directions in the pool for a long time without following her.
3️⃣ At present, the baby is kept separately and mainly fed with formula milk. Mother’s milk is not plentiful.
4️⃣ The cub has hit the pool wall and the fence and the snout was broken and blood oozed from the skin.

According to his trainer in 2020, Dylan is 7 meters long. He eats 160kilo of fish every day.
He is stimated to be 17 years old, wild russian male, and was captured in summer 2015.

Shawn, also translated as Sean, is a wild russian transient male from Shanghai. It took him about two years to be part of the show, performing lonely some days this summer, while Dylan who is the star of Shanghai is busy with other tasks.
Although he does not perform some tricks like getting out of the water on the platform, he had learned a lot lately.
Little is known about him. Estimated to be around 8-10 years old and captured from the wild at 2015. He has a shy character and is the orca that suffers the most bullying of the pod, many times he is seen alone in the backpool.

One of the impressive males that will be displayed at Chimelong Marine Sciene, currently under construction and with no scheduled opening date, although it is said that it will be this year 2021.

A total of 15 Russian killer whales were captured during 2013-2015 in Russian, young animals violently hunted from their natural habitat, they had been commissioned and reserved by different marine parks in China.
Among them 5 males and 4 females between 5 to 13 years old, were transferred to Chimelong: 2 in 2013, 5 in 2014, 2 in 2015.

After 8 years in captivity, how are Orpheus, Tysson and the rest of the killer whales today? Have they breed already? Has one of them died? Many many issues and questions that Chimelong takes care to keep in absolute secrecy.

C Pool is, along with the medical cell, the shallowest pool in Shanghai, and the depth is excessively shallow.
Although there is no data or information on the depth of their concrete tanks, we can assure that it is far from being enough to keep four wild russian orcas to feel comfortable and to develop natural behaviors, like swim...
They are condemned into a life of servitud without options.

Dylan and Cookie have a big bond and they like to spend time together. Most of the time this is not possible because Dylan's busy schedule.
While she is lately kept in the backpools, making her last show appearance in april-may 2021.

Chimelong Marine Science Park - Indisputable loss for the species

A total of nine whales, including five males and four females aged between 5 to 13, are kept in the breeding facility, according to the park’s announcement.
The breeding center aims to “help cultivate the public’s awareness of whale protection, develop related studies, and progress toward killer-whale breeding.”
A total of 15 individuals of the new wild generations of Russian killer whales are trapped in small concrete pools, with blue painted walls, chemically treated water, large and powerful water filters, tons of fish to feed them and the latest technology to keep them alive.

Today with names: Dylan, Shawn, Cookie and Dora, they will not be remembered for what they were born as, or what he could've been, but instead, what the marine park industry made them out to be. Part of conditioning a once wild orca to its new captive role, is erasing its prior identity and behaviors. They are performers, workers and breeders now.
