Stevie had a great morning with this kid!! She’s working hard on her horsemanship skills and really enjoys getting to know the horses and their unique personalities.

Today we observed horses out in the pasture and the barn. We paid special attention to how they interact with each other, their body language, and of course how they move their ears… guessing what they were feeling and what they would do next.
Pretty cool stuff.

🐴 What Your Horse’s Ears & Head Movements Are Telling You! 🐴

Ever wonder what’s going on inside a horse’s mind? Unlike us, they don’t use words—but they communicate constantly through their ears, head, and body language! Learning to “speak horse” is one of the first skills we teach at Wish Me Luck Farms, and it’s amazing to see how much they tell us when we know what to look for!

👂 Ear Positions & What They Mean

🔹 Forward & Alert: “What’s that?!” A horse with ears pricked forward is curious, paying close attention to something ahead. It could be a person, another horse, or even a rustling bush!
🔹 Relaxed to the Side: “I’m chill.” When a horse’s ears are slightly off to the side, they’re feeling calm and comfortable—often during grooming or after a good ride.
🔹 One Ear Forward, One Back: “I’m multitasking!” This means your horse is listening to two things at once—maybe you and something happening behind them.
🔹 Pinned Back Tight: “Back off!” A horse with ears pinned flat is feeling threatened or annoyed. This is a clear warning sign, so always approach with care and read the rest of their body language!

🐎 Head Movements & Mood

🔸 Lowered Head & Relaxed Neck: This is a sign of a calm and happy horse. You’ll often see it when they’re grazing or after a good training session.
🔸 Tossing Head Up: “I’m excited!” or “I’m frustrated!” Some horses toss their heads when they’re feeling playful, but it can also mean they don’t like the bit or are resisting cues.
🔸 High Head & Wide Eyes: “Something’s up!” A raised head with big eyes means they’re on high alert—maybe a new person, animal, or sound caught their attention.

A huge thank-you to Thomas Feed & Hay and their amazing delivery crew!

Not only do they bring us top-quality hay and feed, but they always go above and beyond with their care and professionalism. They’re so respectful of our property and, best of all, they take the time to show kindness to our animals. 🐴

One of their biggest fans, Kylo (our crazy goat), is always eager for their attention and scratches, and they never disappoint!
It’s not every day you find a crew that not only does a fantastic job but also takes the time to connect with the animals they deliver for.

Here’s Kylo supervising this week’s delivery—he’s always ready to help when food is involved 🤣 Thanks again, Thomas Feed, for everything you do!
