What a hot summer! ☀️

Are you checking the temperature of the ground before taking your dog outside? Did you know on a 87° day, the asphalt can reach up to 143°? That’s way too hot for your pup to be standing on.

To measure the temperature of the ground, place your hand on the ground for 10 seconds. If it is too hot for your hand, it will be too hot for your dog’s paws.

Keep those puppies safe and cool this summer! 😎

Worked on exposure with Archie yesterday at Home Depot 🌎💧🔥🌬

What is exposure?
Exposure is similar to socialization. When socializing a puppy, it is common belief that the puppy has to interact with everything to avoid becoming aggressive. The problem with this is that the dogs think they have the right to interact with everything as an adult. This is displayed by dogs lunging at other dogs and people and dragging the owner to another dog or person.

What is exposure?
Exposure is similar to socialization but there’s a big difference. When socializing a puppy, it is common belief that the puppy has to interact with every dog and person to avoid becoming aggressive and fearful. The problem with this is that the dogs think they have the right to interact with every dog and person as an adult. This is displayed by dogs lunging at other dogs and people and dragging the owner to another dog or person.
With exposure, the goal is to expose your puppy to everything they might come in contact with in the future. However, this does not mean they need to interact with everything. For example, it’s good to expose your puppy to some people, some dogs, and anything they will come in contact with in the future. I practiced exposure with Archie by eliminating any fear he might have of the carts at Home Depot.

Don’t worry if you see this!

Sometimes when the adult canines are growing in, they appear next to the baby canines. As the adult tooth continues to grow in, it should push the baby tooth out. If the adult tooth is completely grown in and the baby tooth has not fallen out, I would recommend seeking vet advice.

Why do dogs eat grass? 😋

Grass provides dogs with a vital part of their diet: fiber. This helps the dog’s digestive system run smoothly. Just make sure they don’t eat grass that has chemicals on it.

Ever wonder why your dog will sit with a signal from your hand but not from just your voice?

Test your dog: ask your dog to do commands for you like sit, down, come, etc. but don’t move at all. This will show if your dog knows the word or just our body language.

Dogs pick up the physical cues from us before they pick up the verbal cues.
I like my dog to respond to my verbal and physical commands independently from each other.

I love finishing out the work day with a nice quick session. It was still fun even though Creed was falling asleep as we were working with him 😅

Just three weeks into training and these boys are walking 👌🏼 on loose leash! If you’re interested in using a gentle leader (on the Aussie’s face) for walking, make sure you know how to use it correctly! It’s easy to use a gentle leader incorrectly. Good luck on all your dog endeavors!

Shout out to @ivonnepepper and her kids for doing such a good job training Charlie at the agility course! They’re learning how to train Charlie on their own 🤗 So proud of the progress they’ve made!

Creed is doing an off-leash heel at 5 months old with 7 weeks of training. What an amazing puppy! So glad I have the opportunity to train him. Steve, his owner, is also a wonderful trainer. Creed would not be where he’s at today without Steve working for it. Keep up the good work!
