Thank you to all who supported us and attended our first clinic of our 2024 season this past weekend! It was so awesome to have new AND returning participants for a full day of learning and having fun. 🤩 Our hearts are full when we know we have made a positive impact towards our students horse and human relationships. Abigail

To see a horse and rider connect is all about communicating. Learning the language between each other might not always clear, but when things start to connect, it becomes a partnership. Here is Abigail’s testimony. “Hi Nate, I wanted to thank you for everything you have done for our horses. This last Saturday was me and Paradice's eventing "trail run," and we learned a ton about what we need. Without our last xc session, which you saved with the shoe replacement, we definitely would not ha e gone and learned about our strengths and weaknesses on course and in dressage. I used a couple of things I learned in your clinic to focus her on me, and I think it worked a little too well because she was feeding off my nervous energy. We had a fairly good dressage test, and the judge put in her comments that if she loses some of that tension, she will be a beautiful horse to go around on. She also took most of the stadium jumps in stride, however we were unfortunately eliminated on xc with 6 refusals total. They still let us finish the course, and by the last jumps when I was more confident she was incredible, even taking the last obstacle which was a ditch she has only ever gone over 3 times perfectly. I included Sarah in this message because I I know she is a big part of your business and I was very thankful for her instruction for Sir Bartly which I learned a lot from and her willingness to let me ride Giles. I am very excited to see what we do next, and I will see you at our next appointment!” This is why we do what we do. ❤️ Thank you, Abigail! Matt came to us this summer to get a start on life. ☀️ He is a beautiful gelding and so much fun to work with. Although he started out as a pushy fellow who viewed people more like pez dispenser. 😬 After we got that sorted out his curiousness and willingness came to the surface. It’s a fine line teaching these horses respect but allowing them to be who they are! So rewarding to see them start to walk that path and the world open up to them!

Nate said he had the best ride on Magic yet tonight. We also got to experiment with new technology to help us create more videos to share! #buroakstables

Magic 🪄 came to training to get some miles put on him and to help fill the holes in his foundation. He was started as a 3 year old then sat for a year till this spring. On day 1, we immediately worked on teaching him that things need to be black or white and not a gray area so he could start focusing and communication can become more clear. By day 2, we were up and riding. 😃 One of the main issues we we’re working on is learning that leg pressure or even contact doesn’t just mean go. 🐎 While I love a horse that moves out I also need a horse that’s with me, not ahead as Magic likes to be. All in all Magic is a VERY kind boy with some things to learn, as we all do dare I say. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You’ll hear me explain more in this video. 🎵

As a trainer, you never stop learning. Not only do you help these horses along their journey, but they also help you. Two things come to mind when I think about Harley and the work we’ve done together. Words and the actions that back them up. As humans we use words to describe what we think we’re doing. More often than not, Harley helped me to be a better horse person. I may set him up for something and he’d do it beautifully, but then there are times where it got worse. What Harley taught me was that it wasn’t always him, it was also me. My seat, my cues, etc. It’s not that I was checking out, but he was sometimes more focused than I was and that’s where he would tell me I wasn’t being a good partner. My actions needed to back up my words, but more importantly back up my partner. He had my back and I needed to have his. Thank you for giving me a better understanding Harley. Forever grateful for these horses and the valuable lessons they have for us if only we’ll listen. ~ Nate

The time has come for Reign to return to his home. Where to even start? The basics? If you’ve followed along, you’ve seen clips of his progress. What is he really like though? If I had to sum it up, I’d say he’s just a fun loving, curious goofball! 🤪 By the time Reign went home, he was doing all the things he should be doing, walk, trot, canter. 👏 Starting to open gates, and learn how to move his body. Going out on his own bravely, not worried about a thing. What else did he do? He had the whole herd trained to come say hi 👋 whenever anyone even walked by the fence! He learned that tires 🛞 and ground poles in fact will not eat you. It’s such an adventure getting these young ones started and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. Reign is one special horse and I can’t wait to watch him carry on the adventure as only he knows how! ~ Nate

Most people would say the first lessons are boring….. 😒 Well, they might be right if that’s their interpretation of it. Trained professionals keep up with their education, ground work, riding, and all of the unexpected situations that they strive to learn more about. There should never be a point in their lives where they think they know everything. It’s a constant learning experience that makes them grow as trainers. Just like parents. We send our kids to school not only because we don’t have the time, but we don’t have the knowledge to teach them on our own. Sometimes we need to take a step back and look at where our horses level, emotions, or physical being is at knowing we as humans also need the help. So far, Harley 🏍 is showing what he knows and what level he wants to start from. It’s pretty cool. Nothing happens without determination, consistency, and dedication. Looking at what Harley accepted in 45 minutes sums it up! ⏰ This is not what every horse accomplishes in this short of time but it is a good example of his trust level with humans. He is very smart and willing. He might possibly be ready for parades and expos after being exposed to strollers as well. 😉 He is a Quarter Horse Cross. What cross does he look like to you? -

The sunsets 🌅 at the stables will never get old. Sir London did amazing in the arena for his first “official” ride with his friend in tow. 😁 Lots of scratches and loving him up was in order after doing as well as he did. This guy is a gem. 💕
