The Underdogs of Maine The Underdogs of Maine is a sister organization of The Underdogs Rescue in Oklahoma. We are entirely foster-based. Adopt, foster, volunteer, or make a donation.

Who We Are

The Underdogs Rescue is a group of individuals who are volunteering their time to help combat Oklahoma's pet overpopulation problem by transporting pets from our sister rescue organization in Yukon, OK, to Maine which has been saving homeless pets since 2013. This means that compassionate folks open their homes and hearts to animals in need who often come with a history of neglect, a

buse, and abandonment. While in foster homes, these animals learn what it means to be a part of a loving family and will be set up for a successful transition into their new furever homes. You can help us help them and give a homeless pet a chance for a new life. The Underdogs Rescue understands the lifelong emotional and financial commitment that goes into adopting a new member of the family. Our goal is to find the absolute best fit for your entire family. When you choose to make an Underdog a part of your family, you, in turn, become a part of ours! This means we will never leave you without help, guidance, and support for as long as you and your pet need us. We rely solely on private donations, all of which are tax-deductible and go directly toward transporting animals to Maine. Our tax ID is: 87-3458462

Bruce's story is one of resilience and hope in the face of unimaginable cruelty. This sweet 2-year-old Pit Bull Terrier came to Salt Plains Veterinary Services on Valentine's Day last year in terrible shape. He was found abandoned and severely injured on the side of the road, a victim of circumstances beyond his control.

After months of rehabilitation, Bruce was adopted in April 2024. What seemed like a happy ending quickly turned into another betrayal. His adopter claimed Bruce wasn't getting along with other dogs and needed rehoming. Instead of working with the clinic, they claimed to have found him a new home. Weeks later, Bruce was discovered as a stray, abandoned and alone - again.

Despite this heartbreaking sequence of events, Bruce's spirit remained unbroken. He's still a happy-go-lucky guy who loves people, showing incredible forgiveness after such profound rejection. Bruce has some special needs - he's blind in one eye and nearly deaf - but his capacity for love is boundless. He's fully vetted, neutered, and house-trained.
He has been around kids 10 years and older and has done well with them. We don't know how he'd be around cats or smaller animals as he hasn't been exposed to them yet.

🎉 Happy New Year from The Underdogs Rescue! 🎉As we welcome 2025, we're thankful for the incredible support we've received this past year. To our adopters, fosters, donors, and volunteers—you are the heartbeat of our mission. Your kindness has given so many Underdogs a second chance at life, and we couldn't do this without you.

A huge shout-out goes to our wonderful rescue, shelter, and vet network partners who work —often until exhaustion—to help many of Oklahoma's animals out of dire situations and find them loving homes. Whether it's pulling animals from euthanasia lists at the last minute, coordinating transports, or providing medical care and safe havens, together, we are able to rewrite the stories of countless pets and prove that teamwork truly saves lives. Thank you for everything you do! 🐾

And because no New Year's post is complete without some resolutions, here are a few to get you started:

✨ "Chase the ball only after it's been thrown." – A wise reminder to live in the moment and not stress over what hasn't happened yet.
✨ "Devote more time to naps." – Self-care is essential for humans and dogs. Let's all commit to more rest in 2025!
✨ "Don't worry about having a second treat." – Life's too short to skip dessert (or that extra biscuit).
✨ "Kick grass over that p**p and move on." – Leave the messes of 2024 behind and focus on brighter days ahead!

To our supporters, donors, fosters, volunteers, and friends, TUR wants to THANK YOU for your support in 2024. Because of you, TUR was able to rescue many dogs and cats and provide them the care they needed and furever homes. We also helped people who had nowhere else to turn to get vet care and support for the animals they rescued.
