Change to usual competition scenary; Ari’s Woodbury and I headed to Boneo park summer dressage champs, to compete in the Novice OTT classes both days this weekend . Yesterday he seemed a little concerned there were no jumps and warm up was quieter then usual, but did two respectable tests 65 and 66 percent. Placing him third in championship.
Today goody (whose racing name was
“it’s too good”) felt far less sceptical and decided to enjoy dressage, winning both classes (70 and 71 percent) , todays championship, some prize money (generously donated by Racing Victoria) and currently sitting on top of leaderboard for novice OTT series.

Dee and I were both enthusiastic (despite the torrential rain) as I have missed competing so much, with my arm broken. Linda Lewis coming along to support us was added bonus. 2023….we got to move back into our beautiful renovated home! We lost our Lu Lu 😭gained a Peggy. My horses and I had some success competing and continued to learn from each other. I broke my arm badly, falling from Goody, causing fair bit of pain and frustration.

My students continued to strive to kick personal goals, loved working with them all! Big competition calender planned for 2024, with some absences to watch Jake play football. Emerald winning the grand final was huge highlight. Thanks to cedar lodge for their continued sponsorship, I love your products ! . And very excited to announce my new sponsor Stacey Akers who does acupuncture, oesto and massage on my horses and they feel amazing afterwards

Beautiful photos of my Dee winning one of his elementary tests on Saturday at Melba equestrian clubs first official EA event. After some time off with various ailments , it was great to be back competing on the boy. Great comp, the presentations were an added extra. !

Wind, rain and second test bit of hail in the mix at boneo dressage competition today. Bug wasn’t sure wanted to participate, but convinced him. Managed a second and third place in official preliminary and just under 70 percent both classes. Huge thanks to Leah Simmons for the impromptu videoing

I love this ! Feel like some horses are just more sensitive then others (I don’t like terminology “desensitize” ). Like people, horses are different from each other. Amazing animals, best to try figure them out. That sensitivity can be handy at times !

Thought for the day:
There is a big difference between teaching a horse that something is ok and making a horse tolerate something it can't avoid.
One is taking away the need to fight or react to something and the other is causing it to fight till it loses.
One approach creates versatile horses that learn to deal with things and work with confidence and not be afraid of finding their way through new things. The other creates despondency, defeat and a fear of the unknown.
One is teaching a horse to learn and the other is learned helplessness.

Ari’s Woodbury and I , had a second place podium finish at ballarat horse trials today in 95 (would have loved to do champagne spray) but non offered.
Big thanks to Ballarat Horse Trials for always hosting such a great event, the Off the track classes are a super addition to events and generous prizes .

To top off my weekend, Honovi firefly (bug) and I competing against 37 horses in preliminary class at Victorian dressage club comp at werribee today. We rode just one test, scored 66.6 and came 4th. Massive thanks to Ant Bartlett my ever supportive coach for all your help today with Bug, been few bumps in road lately and you helped smooth them out

Mr Dee (Dicavalli Dimitri) and I headed off to do some dressage at werribee yesterday. Only recently stepping up to medium, I was so pleased (shocked) to WIN one of our classes (66.2) and 4th in other. (64.5) Thanks to my sponsor Leslie from National college of traditional medicine for treating him this week.

Sunday I took Bug to his first freshmans at Shirley heights . Having only jumped a handful of times and not joining many jumps together, the 50cm course looked daunting ha ha. He was such a good boy, had a few rails but jumped all the scary fill and behaved himself perfectly.

BDDC official competition today and our first medium outing, second place and 64.3 percent (same score both judges).
LONG time since I have done a medium test, Dicavalli Dimitri tried hard (perhaps too much in trot, not leaving enough energy for canter). But I keen to do another medium test again soon, not run away and hide, so that’s positive.
Thanks heaps Edith, for all your help in warm up, videoing us and supporting me. Dee and I loved you being there.

Ari’s Woodbury and myself had so much fun galloping in the rain cross country, at Marcus Oldham ballarat horse trials on weekend. We want to thank “Schroeder Consulting” for sponsoring our class and our prizes for 5th place. Grateful to committee at Ballarat , it really is a classy event.

It’s is a pleasure to compete such a polite and willing horse (good, good good) , hang out with my friends and do the sport I love. Thanks as always to Nina and Ant for your coaching. Not long to Albury !!!!

Great food for thought !

Customer or Recipient?

You have entered some type of horse event or competition, for which you have paid a fee.

Now, sometimes, in the big, glitzy, highly publicized and highly sponsored extravaganzas, the organizers are raking in the profits, and you ARE a customer.

BUT---Usually you are NOT a customer in the normal sense, because most horse events scrabble to break even, and, without volunteer help, usually would lose money.

Which means that you are more of a guest than a customer, and, as a guest, your behavior will either help the event stay in business, or will drive nails into its coffin.

JUST ONE whiny complainer, just ONE person who is rude to a volunteer, just ONE person who bounces a check, just ONE person who leaves trash and mess, that is sometimes all it takes to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, that gets an organizer or a volunteer to say, “Enough.”

We understand that people at shows are often nervous, often feeling lots of pressure, often disappointed with weather, parking, stall assignments, judging results. But even so, those people have the power, by their behavior, to ruin it for everyone else if they lose it.

No easy answers----

Wandin horse trials, such a beautiful venue, and glad many of my friends/clients got to enjoy it. Ari’s Woodbury and I placed 5th this year in our class, which added to the fun. My rider video link below and doing cc on goody is the ultimate definition of fun!
