Hey everyone! We are planning on creating a little info booklet for everyone who buys a lotl from us. We're wanting to add some info sheets and some water logs and other things. Our question to you guys is what would you have liked to be given when you bought your first pet (cat, dog, fish, lizard, snake, goat, cow, whatever)? How much research did you actually do before impulsively getting them? (LETS BE HONEST WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE) We are wanting to make sure everyone who gets one of our lotls has all the correct information needed to care for their new friend! BUT WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE! Not just our customers! So if anyone has any suggestions please just comment below!

I think our worm farm is doing great! Look at all of those babies!! This is just what was on the lid when we opened it up to feed everyone. For reference if size that’s one of our medium worms I placed beside them to show how tiny they really are!

Here are some great ideas to help keep your tank temps down!

It’s summer time again and the hot weather can make it hard to keep your tank cool.
The ideal temperature for axolotls water is 60-65 degrees.
Here are some ways to help keep your water cool and your Axolotl happy!

Fans- clip on fans, box fans, fans made for aquariums. Just turn them on and have them blow onto the top of the water to cool it. Top off water frequently to keep up with the accelerated evaporation.

Frozen water bottles - just put them in the tank and remove when melted, re freeze & repeat!

Portable ac units - place one in the room your Axolotl is in to keep the ambient temp of the room lower.

Ice- add some ice to the tank to cool it off.

Windows - consider relocating your tank away from any windows. Basements are also a great place for tanks.

Chillers- purchase a chiller appropriate for your size of tank. They are pricy but are the best way to keep a constant temp in your tanks without all the work.

Someone just asked about this:

Yes, it is still easy to distinguish axanthics even when they have GFP.
GFP is expressed primarily in the epithelium (skin surface and lining of organs and coelom). GFP is also GREEN (as in Green Fluorescent Protein).

The Axanthic face glow is expressed in the connective tissues - ligaments and cartilage - of the joints. Axanthic face glow is BLUE.

Here is a 3-month old juvenile axanthic with GFP. Left pic is in dim light, and right pic is under 365 nm UV light.

You can clearly see the blue glow in the cartilage of the face and hands in spite of the bright green glow of the GFP. This becomes more difficult as the animal ages due to a decrease in the amount of cartilage in the joints, and the relative thickness of the overlying skin.

Guys this is horrible!!! Please do not buy an Axolotl from a big box store! They have no clue how to care for them or give you the correct care/info about them! I know my local big box stores do not currently have them in stock but when I asked about snail free plants or am looking at decor/hides for them I’m looked at funny with the next phrase “what is an Axolotl”
Hell! I just called a huge big name vet at a college that is supposed to be the best of the best to see if they will see/take axies in the case I ever need a vet and again the first thing they asked was “what is an Axolotl?!”

Please please do not buy from big box stores!!! Even mom and pop stores make sure you ask them questions and do your research and figure out where they’ve gotten them if they are caring for them properly! If you want an Axolotl please look into reputable breeders! as much as I’d love you to get one from me I completely understand if you don’t want to. And I will happily give you a list of AMAZING breeders that I have either dealt with myself or hope to deal with in the future! Please let’s stop the big box stores sales of them!

Side note some of these big box stores sell “fish/aquarium hides/decor” that is supposed to be aquarium safe but starts peeling/bubbling with in a few days/month how is that even safe?!

So got some more eggies over the past week. And I’m so excited for this pairing by happy Axolotls and the mottled lotl! And if ya look closely there is a twin! Super super excited!!! :)) we also finally have our worm farm going along with the black worm farm and brine shrimp going! 🙂 🪱

Still no babies! Should be any day now! Seeing a’lotl different colors! A lot of dark and lighter ones so should be a good mix! Once hatched they should be ready for new homes in about 3-4 months!

Hey everyone look what came today!!! 2 clutches of Axolotl eggs! We are so excited! Currently they are still in their shipping bag getting used to the new water temperature before they will be released into the tub. They are so tiny yet so much bigger then I thought they would be! And you can even see their gills already!!! Once they hatch they will develop their legs. But once the temperatures are more equal I will let them loose in the tub and I’ll try to update with more pictures!

Hey everyone! A little bit about me! My name is Lauryn! I have owned axolotls for almost 3 years now! Me and my husband (Ron) started off with a wild type (Axie) we got from a pet store. In November of 2022 we bought our Lucy girl. Since then we have acquired Blondie (Golden), Snickerdoodle (copper), Black Cherry (axanthic), PBK (UK copper), Creme De Menthe (GFP), fudge (black melanoid), and Pistachio (GPF Mosaic). We also have 2 fireflies coming soon and currently waiting on 2 clutches of eggs to be delivered.
Our goal is to become reputable and reliable breeders and to include as much information as possible to help you properly care for your new baby. If you have questions or are thinking of getting a new axolotl you are ALWAYS welcome to message! We also will be taking in rescues/rehabs with no questions or judgment!
