I am so thankful to God that Shelbyâs health appears to be fully restored! Now these two are able to enjoy their suppertime routine together. đ¤ Shelby is so gentle and careful with her favorite little person.
Hay
Beautiful things are happening on the farm!!! We are so thankful to the Lord for a few dry days to get the hay in the barn!
Just like a baby who wants the blocks stacked so she can knock them over again and again and again and again!
When youâre two and you want to play but nobody wants to play with you. â¤ď¸ Love little Shelby so much! â¤ď¸
We thoroughly enjoyed a Sunday afternoon color tour on horseback today. đđ¤đ
When the old draft horse who could have invented the word âmoseyâ decides to run around voluntarily! Itâs so good to see him feeling so good!
Sheâll unlatch the gate for him, but she makes him open it! 𤣠Teamwork! Earl is such a good pony. đ¤
It was a beautiful day for horse things. đ¤
Eve says that living on a farm is so much fun!
We happen to agree!
After Sassy was done splashing she enjoyed a nice roll in the sand while we rinsed the tank and filled it with clean water. đ¤
One of the best things about building a barn and paddocks from the ground up is the ability to customize size, shape, and functionality to meet the specific needs of our equine herd.
Those needs only required two medium sized paddocks, run-ins for shelter, and a spot for our old pony, Earl, to eat his mash undisturbed three times a day. đ¤
Instead of building multiple buildings, we had a 60âx12â lean-to added to the barn, which was the perfect size for everyone! Earl has an 8âx12â section panneled off for his meals and we panneled off an 8âx12â section for us to get in and out with feed and to have a water hydrant close by for filling tanks.
The lean-to faces southeast, protecting our herd from the cold winter winds and precipitation that usually blow in from the northwest.
We built our fences out from there, separating our herd into their happy groups. đ They spread out right in front of our front porch, so the views (in our opinion) canât be beat!
It is functional, easy to clean, and pleasing to the eye! Our horses seem to love it and enjoy standing on their rubber mats while they eat hay from their Hay Chix bags.
Behind the barn, we plan to add an outdoor riding arena for Shelby training days đ, more specific ground work and obstacles for all the horses, helping Eve continue to practice her riding skills in a safe place, and days we just decide not to hit the trails but still want to ride!
The inside of the barn is currently being finished with a tack room and a couple stalls for medical emergencies and vet appointments. We canât wait to get that done and organized!
Moving with a herd of horses is no joke! đ
We are very happy with how it is turning out and look forward, Lord willing, to many happy years enjoying this blessing.
Little Shelby had her first lesson today of learning to pony along with Sterling. She did great overall and Sterling was so gentle and steady and patient with her. đ¤ We hope to pony Shelby along on some trail rides this summer!

From rescue life, to being adopted two years ago, to this beautiful display of joining up with her favorite person. đ¤ #horsenorthrescue
Trotting off to supper. đ¤
Weâve been so blessed with a beautiful day in November here in Michigan!! After lots and lots of chores, it was time to take a few horses out for a ride!
November in Michigan! It sure is beautiful. âď¸đ¤
Sometimes you just have to schedule a trail ride and plan your day around it. đ¤
