Our special little guys 💕
1 year ago today Barry went in for his first lot of surgery on his leg. Unfortunately the road to recovery has been ongoing with one of the metal plates needing to be removed back in May. This morning Barry went in to have the second plate removed as sadly after lots of meds it became clear that the leg wasnt healing well enough with it in. The surgery went well and Barry is perky (and very hungry!) but we now need to keep all fingers crossed and hope for his leg bone to be strong enough to support itself for the future! 🤞💚 🐐
These boys 😍

It is 5 years today since Finni’s Ark became the Islands first combined equine, poultry and livestock licensed sanctuary.
Over those 5 years we have accomplished so many things and assisted in taking in over 200 animals (not to forget all those rescued and rehomed by myself and family for over 50 years before!) We have also provided therapy visits to those in the community who benefit most and educational visits to clubs and schools etc.
Sanctuary life doesn’t come without its challenges, along side being extremely rewarding, It’s also very exhausting and a lot of hard work and expense. There is also the heart break involved with the loss of a sanctuary resident which never gets any easier 💔
We are extremely grateful for the support we get from our followers, some of whom have been with us from the start. We also appreciate your understanding that we are completely volunteer run and predominantly self funded, meaning we have to juggle visits and therapy around our day jobs and the animals care.
There are lots of ways that people can contribute to helping support our aims from making a donation, fundraising, volunteer days, sponsorships so if you would like to help please get in touch.
Thank you to all of you once again!

Thank you so much to the 10th Beauport Jersey Scout Group for these fabulous gifts from our wishlist. we are very grateful for your support of our sanctuary and hope you found your visit informative and enjoyable 💚

We were very fortunate to have 2 groups from NatWest International volunteer for us recently. There is always a huge amount of work to do at the sanctuary and as we all have full time jobs in addition we do have to prioritize the work. It goes without saying that top of the list is the daily care of the animals however this does limit the time available for maintenance tasks.
So we are extremely grateful to Natwest for helping out with the various chores that needed doing around the sanctuary, not all pleasant ! but still important to get done.
Thank you all very much for all your hard work, we really do appreciate the work you completed and your support of our sanctuary. 💚
Dentist time for some of the equine residents! We have a minimum of 2 visits from our dentists each year in which all of our equines have their check ups. Some of them require twice yearly check ups and others just the one depending on the condition of their teeth. Keeping their teeth in good shape is necessary for keeping them in good health and condition. Thank you to Equine Dental Services Jersey for looking after our gang and to Dr Ro Island Equine Vets for being on hand for our more nervous patients.
🌟 A MASSIVE heartfelt thank you to Curtis HSBA Garden Railway for raising the incredible sum of £2355.50 for Finni's Ark Animal Sanctuary by holding a summer open day for people to visit and view his fantastic miniature model railway in action 🚂
We thoroughly enjoyed being there and can fully appreciate the HUGE amount of dedication, time, detail and effort that went into making this a fabulous day for everyone, it really was something special and we are so very grateful to Curtis for being his chosen charity to benefit from the proceeds of the day 🤗
A big thank you also goes to Alex, Aaron & Steph for their help which allowed for us to be able attend and of course the generosity of ATF Fuels Jersey and ALL those that helped, turned out and contributed to the great success of the day.
This donation means a lot to us and we are very grateful for such kindness and support of the sanctuary and everything that we strive to achieve.
We hope you enjoy a few snaps from the day - Lara 💚 🐐🐑🐓🐷🐴🐮
We had a lovely visit from All Saints Church, Jersey, CI on the weekend, it was a beautiful day and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves ☀️ 🧺 🐮 🐴 🐷 🐓 🐐 🐑

Jethro and Sweep went on a visit to Cheval Roc earlier this week. They very much enjoyed all the fuss and carrots Thank you for inviting us 💚 🐴
This weekend we had our annual visit from sheep shearer Mike. Mike has been shearing our sheep for a number of years now, not only is he very skilled and experienced but he’s also very gentle with our sanctuary flock, especially since sadly some of whom are now quite old and don’t have the same covering or suppleness they once had. They also had feet and teeth checked which confirmed that all feet are in great condition and teeth all good and as expected in respect of their ages.
Everyone is feeling cooler and a little lighter!

🐐 Barry Update 🐐
Barry has now had a few dressing changes along with regular antibiotic and pain relief injections. We are pleased to say that this week has shown a big improvement, the swelling has gone down and he is walking on the leg. He has also been allowed to come off his injections and see how he gets on, this is great news as he wasn’t so keen on these. His best friend Brian has been keeping him company whilst he recovers so that he’s not lonely until he is able to join the others. The plan now is to reduce the thickness of his bandages at each change to gradually get the leg used to not having the additional support and his stitches will soon be removed. Fingers crossed he continues to heal well 💕
🌟We are thrilled to say that our miniature boys “Jethro” and “Sweep” have been nominated for the BBC Jersey Make a Difference awards 2024! Thank you very much to those who nominated them 🙏🏻 and to add to our excitement Alex who is an amazing help with everything at the sanctuary has been nominated too😁 the finalists will be announced on 6th September and winner confirmed on 13th September 🤞🤞
We are delighted and extremely grateful to be the chosen charity for the HSBA Garden Railway open day in June. This is a fantastic display of a running miniature to scale railway and will be a very enjoyable event for both young and old. Father’s Day is coming up soon and it would also make a superb gift. Please share with all your friends and come and look at all the detail and work put in to this beautiful garden set up 🚂

Thank you for everyone’s well wishes for Barry. The surgery went well, one of the plates has been removed, the other has been left in for support and he’s now back home resting. He will have a check up from the vet in a few days so fingers crossed he will continue to heal well. 💚 🐐
Please can we ask all our supporters to send our Barry some good luck and healing vibes this morning.
After doing so well after his operation last year, unfortunately he has recently started to have some issues with his leg. Sadly and unexpectedly he now needs to have the plate removed and is on his way to the vets for surgery this morning. Hes a very special boy, fingers crossed he is back to himself asap! Will keep you all updated 💚
This feral boy came to us injured at the beginning of April. He had sadly been hit by a car on the north coast and left unable to weight bear on one leg. Fortunately for him a concerned neighbour in the area took to social media to find him some help. After avoiding capture for a few days he was eventually caught and came to us. After having a support bandage for a few weeks, some nutritious food and some rest he is able to stand and walk on two legs once again. He is currently now just receiving some more treatment for scaly leg mite and he will be able to come out of the aviary and join the others. Being a feral with no home to go back to, he will stay with us at the sanctuary for the rest of his natural life. If anyone has any name suggestions for him please let us know 🐓 💚
Last weekend our Duke of Edinburgh students Kyle, Liam and Rowan finished their 6 months of volunteering with us for their silver award. During their time with us their confidence has grown a lot in handling and providing general care for animals, some of which they might not have had much contact with before starting. We also welcomed Skye from Highlands College last Monday to do a weeks work experience in animal care. She helped with all the animal chores, including helping hold an animal securely for an injection and dressing change, she also built the guinea pigs a new house to explore. During her 5 days with us, it was safe to say she built a strong friendship with Charlie the golden Guernsey goat 😆 Thank you to all of you and good luck for your next ventures!
Our friends at Mia’s Ark supply lots of lovely treats and goodies for your furry friends! Please follow their new page to find out more! 🐕 🐈⬛ 🐾
Beautiful pic of Harley and Minette in the sunshine today, taken by Steph 💚
A very big thank you to the 2nd Jersey Greve D’azette Scouts and Beavers who kindly made and donated a huge bag of enrichment toys for our rabbits and guinea pigs. These are great for keeping them active and mentality stimulated whilst foraging for treats. Here are a few pics of some of them checking their surprises out. 💚
We are glad to have restarted our therapy visits after taking a short break to focus on storm damage repairs, still a bit more to do but with the lighter evenings we are able to work a bit later now. Jethro and Sweep took the outing last week with a visit to St Ewold's Care Home - Parish of St Helier. The boys love it there and have visited a number of times over the years. Thank you very much to St Ewolds for inviting us back and sending us these lovely pictures for us to share. 💚Messages/emails are being sent to homes wanting a visit, if anyone has been missed please send us a message and let us know and also anyone else wanting information on how to arrange 💚🐴

What a wonderful surprise 🥕🍏🍎🍐A massive thank you to Barbara for this very generous mega size delivery of fruit and vegetables for our animals, they are all thoroughly enjoying chomping their way though their gift! We are so grateful and really appreciate your kindness and support of our sanctuary 💚
“Finni” our ‘main man’ 😆 was happy to welcome the 2nd Jersey Greve d’azette Cubs and Beavers to the sanctuary to meet some of our beautiful animals and learn a little bit about what we do and how to care for animals, the children were very enthusiastic and had lots of questions. We hope everyone enjoyed their visit and thank you very much for the fruit and vegetables which went down a treat! 💚 🐑 🐐 🐓 🦆 🦃 🐄 🐖 🐴
Colosso and Oreo enjoying some of the enrichment toys made by 2nd Greve D’azette Jersey Scouts and Beavers. A lot of research and care was taken by them to ensure all materials and treats were safe and suitable for our precious small furries 💚
⭐️👏Our winners are:30 Pamela 3 Rhiannon. Congratulations to you both and we hope you enjoy your prize 👏⭐️Thank you so much to everyone that took part in our Easter mini fundraiser, your support of our sanctuary means so much to us and the animals 💚
The “big man” Boris 🐖 is feeling quite smug! He is well known for his incredibly sweet tooth and penchant for mangos 🥭 and after being a little poorly recently we have perhaps given way a little too much to his specific meal time demands 😆 he’s now milking it for all it’s worth! Words got out and as a result tonight he has been very spoilt with some sweet Persimmons, obviously “Sir” approves of these 😂 A big thank you to Anna for sending these up as a surprise treat for the world’s fussiest pig! he has thoroughly enjoyed them x 💚
The animals and volunteers at Finni’s Ark sanctuary would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas on this rainy morning (not everyone was willing to get out of bed for a pic 😂! Thank you to everyone who has bought our residents Christmas gifts from our wishlist. Your support and kindness is very much appreciated! 🎄🐐🦆🐄🐰🦃🐈⬛🐓🐑🐷
Everyone is keen to come in tonight after the miserable weather. Love how they all spilt up to go to their own beds 💕Some of our eagle eyed supporters might notice the absence of Mickey 🐐, there’s always going to be one that sneaks out early to get a head start on dinner! 🤣
After 8 weeks confined to a stable and small outside pen following his leg surgery, Barry is super excited to have recently been given the go ahead to rejoin his pals. It’s taken time, patience, hard work and been quite a worry but it has all been so worthwhile and we are all over the moon with the successful outcome. Massive thanks to Ro (and team) at Island Equine Vets for identifying the issue and how best to resolve it, plus pre and post operative X-rays and care, Peter Haworth at New Era Veterinary Hospital (and team) for his skill in carrying out this delicate surgery and thank you so much to each and everyone of you that contributed towards Barry’s surgery costs and have been a part of his journey to be able to live a happy and pain free life. We are very grateful for the kindness and support given to Finni’s Ark animal sanctuary. Hope you enjoy this little video from Barry’s first diagnosis through to the much bigger, stronger and most importantly pain free goat that he is today 💚🐐
🐐Barry Update 🐐 For those of you following Barry’s story we now have a provisional date of the 15th August booked in for his operation. We are both excited and nervous about this as to see him pain free and comfortable will be amazing but at the same time like any surgery it will come with it’s risks. Below is a little video of Barry and the way he walks, it’s currently very uncomfortable and will only get worse over time. This surgery will remove his pain. His knee will be fused so he will always walk in a odd fashion but will no longer be uncomfortable with it and will be able to lead a normal life. Once again we would like to thank all our supporters so far who have kindly and generously donated to help Barry. We are so grateful and overwhelmed to have currently reached nearly 2 thirds of our goal! he’s a very special goat! https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Barrythegoatsop?utm_term=dYJVG8qAK
Our animals love their enrichment toys. Over the lazy few moths we have been busy making different types of puzzle feeders, scratching posts and sensory enrichment. Here's a few of the things we have made, Billy in particular loves the treat toys 🐷😂
We had a request from one of our followers to see the Guinea pigs eating. Here they are tonight at dinner!
It's with great sadness to inform eveyone that we have lost one of our 'volunteer sanctuary dogs'. Jack's mum and dad had to say their final goodbyes yesterday evening 😢 Jack passed away just shy of his 19th birthday. Up until the day he past he was full of energy. You could always hear when his mums van was pulling in as he would be screaming with excitement to get out, and given half a chance would jump out the window (age was just a number to this boy!) 🙈😂 In his later years he couldn't see very well to keep up with the horses or donkeys on their walks, so he got to travel in style in a backpack to make sure he never had to miss out. And when it came to dinner time he had no problem sharing with the horses. 😂 He felt the cold this year, so you would often see him bumbling around in various onsies to keep him warm and everyone often laughed when walking past him sleeping in the van as he always seemed to sleep in strange positions. 😴 As he had so many friends up here, both animal and human, he has been put to rest here at the sanctuary and has planted a pear tree alongside to hopefully provide some snacks for his friends, since food was very important to him, he would want there to be an abundance of sweet snacks for his pals for years to come ❤️ We will miss you big guy 💔
Something we like to do on weekends or whenever we get a little bit of free time is to have 121 sessions with our residents. In this time we can do some training. Some training is practical, for specific needs for that animal, some is just for fun and to provide mental stimulation and to help us build a better bond with them. In this video Billy is demonstrating some of the things we may do in these training sessions: -Stretches, teaching our animals different stretches helps them pre and post exercise, for rehabilitation or just to make sure their body's are feeling good. Much like us, stretching is important for improving your range of motion and helping prevent injury. 🤸♀️ -Hand target (their nose to our hand), this is a great way to help be able to manoeuvre the animals in a positive way. Many of the animals who arrive are not halter trained or have a fear of them. This process takes time, however, hand targets is a fairly simple and quick thing to teach. Cracker are beautiful cow is a good example for this. She isn't very keen on having a head collar on and whilst she is getting better she is still very much in the learning process. We have taught her to follow a hand target and this in turn makes it much easier and a lot less stressful to move her around if we need to. 🐮 -Tricks, things like 'spin' or 'paw' are fun things we can do to vary the sessions and get the animals thinking and be creative mentally. We often use shaping as a form of training for tricks and this gets the animals offering behaviours and helps to build confidence and trust. ❤️ -Back up, teaching this can be very helpful for a safety point of view. A lot of the animals are quite big and could easily stand on you by accident so teaching them to back up when they get a bit too close can help provide an option to prevent any toes from being stepped on. It's also handy for being able to get in and out of gateways etc... 🐴 -Husbandry, teaching them things like picking u
Cuddles make flock-down a little bit better 😍 Although the birds are currently needing to be kept inside, we are trying to help keep them as happy as possible (since they are used to being free roam). Afternoon cuddles can definitely help some of our guys feel good and enjoy some quality time with their people ❤️
