Well, Hampton Roads! We did a thing! It's time to officially unveil our recent purchase:).......WE BOUGHT AN RV!.......Why, you ask? Well we have been honored and thrilled to have our mobile echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) imaging service be accepted into the veterinary community these past couple of years. We have been able to help patients that range from cardiac screening echos, all the way to providing scans for heart failure emergencies at the local ERs.

We would now like to offer a full, mobile tele-cardiology clinic! Mirroring our human medicine counterparts, we are pushing veterinary medicine forward and embracing tele-medicine to its fullest potential! With the help of our amazing remote cardiologist, Dr. Megan McLane, we will offer all the services of a traditional brick-and-mortar cardiology clinic, but on wheels! We will be able to do x-rays, echocardiograms, ECG's, Blood pressures, blood work, Holter monitors, and prescribe medications.

How does this work? Imagine you show up for an appointment with your fur-baby, you are welcomed inside of our mobile RV that has a home-feel, and it puts you and your pet at ease. Our licensed veterinary technician (LVT) and veterinary assistant will obtain a history and perform a brief physical exam. The cardiologist will video conference in, review the staff's assessments/history, perform her own brief visual assessment, and discuss with you her recommended tests. Between our LVT, assistant, and registered cardiac sonographer, all of the diagnostics will be performed. The cardiologist will review all of the results and then video conference back in with you to discuss the findings and treatment recommendations. The best part, unlike most specialty clinics, you will remain with your pet the entire time and get to witness all of the "behind the scenes" of cardiology.

We are going to slowly roll out this new and amazing service starting one day a week, on Fridays. Our expected start day will be the end of June, but we will keep everyone apprised of our specific start date as we get closer:) We look forward to working with the local primary veterinarians and excepting referrals for our complete cardiology care. Our goal is to have the mobile clinic start one day a week and then progress to three days a week over the next 6 to 8 months. The other two days we will continue to have our mobile imaging service and travel to the requesting veterinary facilities for echos like we normally do.

We have started our renovations of the RV and plan to update you all with all the pictures as the clinic comes together:) Please feel free to share with everyone!

Thanks to Vital Vet Animal Hospital for having me out to share some ECG analysis CE with the staff! It’s always fun to get to share my cardiology passion with the local veterinary community.

Pet parents, come and check out their amazing hospital! They are a wonderful group!

Kudos if anyone can guess the arrhythmia:)

Heartworms in a chihuahua!- There is a picture of heart worms in the right pulmonary artery of the heart on the echocardiogram image. There is a video of the heart worm microfilaria swimming around in the blood under a microscope. There is also a stained prep of a blood smear that shows the heart worm microfilaria in more detail....Please put your pets on preventative. It's much easier and wayyyyy cheaper to prevent heart worms than it is to treat it. Even if your pet stays inside most of the time, there is no such thing as an outdoor only mosquito.
