Welcome to Sammy's, Betsy! This beautiful senior has just come through some rough times. A big thank you to Clackamas County Dog Services for the medical shave and nail trim, urgent flea treatment, dental cleaning and bloodwork. We're happy to keep this deserving girl on her road to recovery and a happy life.💜

Sweet little Sami (now Fern) was adopted this weekend. She went to an amazing family in Bend, Oregon and she's already getting a Halloween costume picked out. 🎃🐾

Welcome to Sammys, Sami! This beautiful 4 month old German Shepard needs a home of her own. She gets along with other dogs and has been gentle with the cat in her foster home. She's spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She loves to go for walks and play with toys. Let's help this lil pumpkin find a home🎃🐾

These 4 feral kittens were trapped in our community by Vanessa Flores a little over a week ago. We kept these spicy little babies safe and well fed until todays spay/neuter surgeries. Thank you Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society for getting them all in on the same day. Sammy's covered the sugery costs for the kittens and provided transportation. Vanessa was able to trap mom, too and she was spayed in Salem, Oregon earlier this week!

Welcome to Sammy's Iris!
This cutie has the look, the smarts and the build of a German Shepard, but she's a bit compact in her size (Embark test pending). At approximately 4 months old she weighs 15 lbs. She gets along with other dogs and is doing great on leash walking skills. She sleeps in her crate through the night, and she's up to date on vaccines. We cover the cost of her spay surgery at 6 months of age. 💜 Let's find this pup the home she deserves. Message us if you'd like to learn more about Iris.

Senior Nora came to us from California a couple of months ago. During this time, she's had a nagging cough. Initally, we treated her for kennel cough. Our vet ordered a chest xray and determined she has some bronchial inflammation and a collapsed trachea. She starts a new cough medication tomorrow.
The xray also revealed a BB in her chest which is not likely connected to the cough, but offers us more insight into her crappy past. 💜

Sammy's is in rescue rehab mode! ❤️‍🩹 We have 2 senior Shih tzus getting the rest and care they need to live out their best days as healthy as possible and without anymore trauma or stress. First up is Bentley (aka Benny) aprox 12 years old. He came to us locally from Clackamas County Dog Services. He was found as a stray and his intake photo is heartbreaking. The shelter staff had to sedate him to shave him down and remove debris from his coat. Benny also received extensive dental surgery and a neuter while in the shelter. He still needs to gain a few pounds, but he's recovering nicely. He's receiving treatment for dry eye and a heart murmur was detected that may have improved after dental surgery. He'll be reevaluated by our veterinarian in about a week. He's such a sweet little guy.
Next up we have Nora (formerly Rita) aprox 10 years old. She came to us from a California shelter about 3 weeks ago where she was found as a stray. This sweet girl has a microchip, however the people who answered the contact number when the shelter called denied owning a dog....
Nora started off underweight, with gastroenteritis, an ear infection and a cough. Our veterinarian treated her digestive issues and the ear infection and the cough has since resolved. She's on the schedule to get her vaccines updated then a dental for the very few teeth she has left. She's a spunky, happy girl.
Adoption information will be posted as soon as medical is complete and we have a better idea what their care routine will look like.

Happy first birthday to our permanent medical foster Gigi. A birthday is a big deal for this girl. We took her in as a local owner surrender and when she went in for her spay surgery, we found out she was born with congenital kidney disease (kidneys did not form completely). Her most recent bloodwork shows a decline in her condition. Even with the odds stacked against her, this puppy has an unstoppable zest for life and makes her presence known constantly. She prefers to be perched on someone's shoulder to get a good view of the room. 95% of the time you wouldn't know she's ill.
Occasionally, we'll have a bad day. She's sleepy, pukey, excessively thirsty and turns down a meal. We can't fix her cherry eye due to the effects of anesthesia on her kindeys, so moisterizing eye drops provide relief. None of the bad stuff slows her down for long🩷
We know she landed in the right place with us and as long as the good days outnumber the bad, we're going to enjoy every minute with her and watch her live her best life. Happy birthday Gigi!🩷

This holiday season, Sammy's is teaming up with our friends at Capelli Salon in Oregon City, to raise funds for the Emergency Assistance Account at the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin. This account provides financial assistance to owners facing the challenge of covering an unexpected emergency veterinary bill. Join us at the holiday party and raffle, or donate directly via Venmo Please reference "Sammy Claus" in the notes. Funds collected will be delivered directly to the clinic on Christmas Eve. Gigi update: Yesterday, 9 month old Gigi had an abdominal ultrasound that confirmed she has severe renal dysplasia. This means her kidneys didn't form completely and this condition will ultimately lead to kidney failure.
Gigi's currently doing great. She's started a kidney friendly diet and is enjoying life with her foster family, she'll remain a permanent medical foster for now. Puppies with this condition don't have a very long life expectancy. We'll re check her kidney values in 3 months, keep trying to get some weight on her and monitor her general health along the way.
We're heart broken for Gigi, but also very grateful that she ended up in a place where she could be properly cared for.
Gigi was an unaltered female dog advertised on FB before she came to us. Thankfully, her owner agreed to surrender her to our rescue. In the days that followed, we were contacted multiple times by a someone angered that they didn't "get that Shih Tzu" Additional comments were made that implied this pup would have been used for breeding...a horrible life for any female dog, but especially bad for a dog in Gigi's condition. There's no doubt Gigi's in the right place to live her best days🩷🩷

Prayers, good vibes and positive energy, we'll take it all. 9 month old rescue Gigi had her spay surgery yesterday. Pre op blood work showed elevated kidney values. An ultrasound showed kindney abnormalities and the urine analysis came back dilute. More test results are pending. Dr suspects exposure to toxins when younger, or a birth defect. She is a strong and sassy little girl❤️we will help her through this.

Welcome to Sammy's Gigi! This cute 7 month old was a local owner surrender. (Thank you, A Woof Over My Head Dog Rescue for the referral, knowing that Shih Tzus have a special place in our heart❤️)She was a little shy at first, but is warming up to the big changes in her life.
Gigi has double Cherry Eye, so we'll need to get her a treatment plan, most likely surgery, and spayed before adoption🐼❤️
