As you know, hunting season is well underway!!! Duck season is right around the corner. Fuhrerin is going to start doing some firearm and choke reviews with our favorite Pudelpointers Kylie and Liam at the helm. Look for those videos to begin to appear on our youtube channel as the season progresses. How will it be different than some of my favorite channels? Shout out to "Target Focused Life"; "TSC" - The Shooting Channel with my favorite guy from the UK (he's just awesome, this is the old guy and not the young one with a similar name); "Blue Collar Outdoors" with all their pattern testing - mainly on Turkey. I'm 5'2" 102lbs most days. Definitely gives a different perspective on a gun. Guns to be reviewed are my favorite guns - which is why I own them, some are new so I haven't shot them yet so the jury is out. The Norinco was my 1st shotgun and will always have a place in the safe. Take a look below at what's ahead (The Ethos, 48L and 1100 are safe queens, two never fired and will not be included in line up). Guns listed as having multiple barrel lengths have, multiple barrels. Should be a alot of fun!!! Chokes to be reviewed: Rob Roberts triple threat, Rob Roberts Turkey, Mojo long, mid & short range, Pure Gold turkey, Indian Creek Diamond Striker Turkey, Kick's High Flyer full, Jebs High Voltage, Carlson's Cremator, TruGlo Double Threat Dove, Briley's Rifled, Patternmaster (PM) Mid range blind side, Terror Choke, PM Code Black Duck, Trulock Boar Buster, HS Strut Undertaker Turkey ported, PM Black Mamba, Wad Wizard Power20 & Power20 Swat, Carlson's TSS turkey, Trulock Pinhoti, Mojo Predator, Primo's Tightwad, Sumtoy Turkey, Jebs Head Hunter, Briley's extra Full, Carlson's Turkey (28ga), Kick's Buck Kicker, Kick's Gobblin Thunder and Gemini IM. Some of these chokes come in a variety of constrictions, I have the most popular for each gauge. Two IC (Indian Creek's) for the 20ga - 555 & 562. I have all constrictions of Terror for 12 & 10 gauge. Hopefully we'll get a Carlson's White Wing Improved Modified in this season, but we shall see. Most of the guns listed below are AWESOME, right now looks like I'm going to be a R***y girl (yes, with all the concerns people have mentioned, loved my Masai Mara so much, I bought a Gordion). And I am forever a Browning Hump Back girl. The A5 is excellent, the Silver,,only in micro midas, the adult size is a bit too beefy for a petite person. ENJOY, looking forward to running these dogs!!!

Sad to announce we do have BAD news. It is not GRAVE news, but still, sorry news. Both Arca and Gwen came into heat this August like clock work, but Gwen's heat flashed in and went out before should be bred. I did catch Arca while she was flagging, HOWEVER, the male did not make it to her in time because I feel asleep the minute I sat down when I got home. It only happened twice, but those were the last two days of her flagging, when I released the male to her in the morning, it was too late. Her heat like Gwen's was "flashing" in and then going out. In the past Arca went well over a week before being ready to breed (almost 2wks). The bi***es are now only lasting a total of about 7 days. The minute you see swelling and blood the males have to be released to them, which is NEW and so I missed it. Right now there are no December puppies. We are currently waiting on Chloe to come into heat, watching diligently. My energy levels are back up. I've been exhausted since July and am just now starting to rebound. My apologies to all, Arca and Gwen are 6mths or more behind schedule.

HUNTING BIO (Segugio Italiano):

No dogs are showing a propensity for deer at this point. No tests were done for it, but deer have been present in live hunts - no interest. They can be trained to track what you want, but this is what's in their nature.

Arca: (1st Boar, 2nd Rabbit, bird, squirrel, fox untested - doesn't hunt anything else naturally)

Red: (1st Boar or cat, 2nd Rabbit, fox untested no squirrel) approx scenting ability to date: 60yard cat

Written in the Stars (Chloe): (Boar, Fox, cat, squirrel but late)

FOR MY HUNTERS!!! "winter is COMING!!!" or should I say "Puppies are COMING" lets take a look at what to expect:

1) Puppies don't start until they are 8mths OLD!!!
2) there's a small possibility you may get a "slower" puppy who doesn't come on strong until it's nearing 3yrs old. Again the possibility is SMALL. From observing my 1st litter, they kinda start tracking fresh out the box. The ones least interested will likely turn out to be the odd balls, from what I understand (read and witnessed) the odd ones generally turn out pretty good, maybe the best.
3) Check the Hunting Bio post to know what innate abilities the dog is demonstrating to see what you want and would like to build on.
4) And this is one of the biggest. TRAINING so I made you a 5min video to explain it. Essentially the Segit is more of a primative than a hound. Completely different workings, but I got 'em figured out. You can TRAIN them if you want using a drag, from what I've seen they don't need it, a starting pen will do, if not, just walking in the woods with game should get them started. The game I'm referring to is like rabbit or fox. Squirrel is a bit more difficult, the ease of it depends entirely on the dog itself. Of course it's easier to start them if you have an abundance of squirrel. Boar is very old school for this breed. It's best to raise them playing with hog pieces, a head, leg etc like you might see in medieval paintings. Then you just need my video to understand him and you should be good to go.

BELOW IS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE FOR EVERY HUNTER LOOKING TO USE A SEGIT:I took the Segits to a Hog Bay competition. NOTHING. I took them to a bay pen with help...

This was the breakdown I did on Diamonds are Forever in May. Very lovely female. She was my pick for a show home. I thought she was the best dog I had. Still do. I think she could beat her mother and her mother gives you Ideal Forte all day. She's killer. Sissy's brother Behold the Red Sun is killer as well. I never ranted about Sissy because sissy is THIN and I wasn't going to show her because I personally couldn't condition her. "I'm not good enough for my own dog". I've seen handlers that could put weight on a dog like this, but I'm just not good. I've seen Sissy in condition and whoa mama, but most of her life from birth on she's been thin. The conditions under which she gained I'm unable to duplicate. It's not food or quality, calories or fat. (exhale), but I'm showing her. She's lovely.

The 1st rabbit video has been posted for Kylie and Liam. As I pondered it, I would like to mention that both Kylie and Liam are trained hunting dogs with hours and hours of work on live game and tracking behind them. If one wants to compare the Pudelpointers to the Italians, keep in mind that the Italians are completely ignorant with zero experience or knowledge. THAT is what makes their meager rabbit video great. If I was starving, I wouldn't want another dog with me. Which breed is better on rabbits?? I am training ONE, lets see!!! It's all very exciting!!!! All of them are such GOOD DOGS

UKC: Lately I’ve heard the word UKC around me a lot. No single person “take offense” it was literally a multitude of people, so no it wasn’t YOU. I’m sure everyone has seen that I no longer show in UKC and for all intent and purposes I steer clear of it. The lingering question people may have is: “Why; What happened?”
My Spanish Water Dog. AKC Copper’s Asegi Moonshine (who I no longer own) . I spent a great deal of time turning her into an upland hunter and waterfowl dog (she was the makings of a 3 title dog: hunt/show/herd). We were avid members of the Dallas HRC (Hunter Retriever Club). I wanted my dog’s due. After some back and forth with UKC and HRC we found that Siena was allowed to run the hunt tests with the permission of the HRC running the tests and would be awarded the points and title. GREAT!! One issue down, another to go. The second issue being, to get the SWD back into the gundog group in the UKC, that way they could run hunt tests in UKC and herding in AKC. The entire continent was listing the SWD as herding and cutting it out of hunting competition, and there was a mention of the coat. I even watched a video about the Lagotto, in which someone who doesn’t actually hunt them complained, whoa is the coat and those like it for hunting. It’s not. I take mine in the woods; I’m not guessing. She was fine. Second, if it’s an issue just cut it, like any other hunting breed with such a coat (Barbet, Poodle etc). It’s not hard,,,lol. Either way, that’s the perfect combo, gundog and herding, best of everything. Well, I told the UKC I wanted to make the request. I heard nothing from them until I got a denial some months later. They’d met, discussed it and said no. Here’s what upset me. I never got an opportunity to make a case for it. I was given no instructions on how to make the request. There was just a meeting based on my email asking to make a request and a no, with no opportunity to SAY anything. So of course I gave them a few words about what I just stated and the ruinment of breeds for cuteness since people were trying desperately to save the SWD COATS!!! Of course I had to mention my beloved Pekingese in the process!!! From then on, I stopped believing the UKC was the place for working dogs as they are often touted. I couldn’t believe it was so hard to try to get a dog to do what it was bred to do (multi-purpose). Sometime during, near, or around this time I was showing Arca in the UKC. I looked at their standard and it was wrong, someone who didn’t know what they were doing wrote it, and the UKC had approved it. I can only surmise without questioning the mechanics or the difference between it and the FCI standard. The UKC standard is about a mythical dog that doesn’t exist. A GOOD Italian can never win in the UKC, they have humps in their backs. Having experienced their “processes”, I completely abandoned the UKC after that. I didn’t bother to try to change the standard or talk to them about it. I’d talked to them before. ((frown)). That’s just MY experience. Hunting dogs can’t hunt and breed standards are wrong, with a lack of systems and procedures. The standard is why a Segugio Italiano shouldn’t show in UKC. The breed doesn’t have a flat back or features in their standard. Our standard, the FCI standard, is comprised of features that are there within the breed making it possible for you to place. Again this is just MY personal experience. Others enjoy and have enjoyed the UKC. I’m happy they have found their place. I could have simply had a terrible time. Nothing against the UKC, but I do recommend that the Segugio Italiano NOT show there, not unless that standard is changed, and I think that is a fair and correct statement given the circumstances. I'm sure the UKC is a wonderful place for others. Breed specific, it's not a good place for the Italian for SHOW. Otherwise I'm sure it's lovely.

Copper (Controllo). Copper arrived at our home as a 2 year old male. He is one of only three puppies who survived in his litter. I was "there" when he was born helping from afar, what serendipity that he is with me now. Thank you Rita for entrusting me with this gem. Thank you Burasca (his mother) who I often threaten to steal. Burasca i mia rigazza!! Now I have a piece of her and her nose. I will take care of it!!

GOAL PROGRESS:
Update 3/30/24
SEGUGIO ITALIANO: The breeding line up has changed as well as the show line up. Expect to see Todd this season. The change was due in part to the change in matings as well as in recognition of the fact that I have a number of a nice dogs. The best way to finish is likely the snowball effect, show my best dogs first in hopes of finishing them quicker, judge willing, allowing me to get to ones that will likely need more time in the ring to acquire points. It's not fair for Todd to sit for 2 or 3yrs when I could maybe get him in and out of the ring in several mths. The list was very difficult, as God has blessed me with a number of nice dogs.
A training video was made about a month ago, so everyone can see the dogs first intro to a rabbit. Having the camera out for firsts has been really exciting. The footage isn't always the best (really need to get my GoPro magic together), but capturing the moment is awesome. That should be uploaded by Friday April 5th. This weekend I intro'd the dogs to lure coursing (rec'd)!! I didn't want to have the same issue we had with hog baying. They show potential and aptitude for a job but it doesn't quit work how we thought it would. It was great!!! The dogs being part sighthounds saw the lure before it moved and ran to it, then it TOOK OFF!! Not fast but they carried the instinct. I believe pre-socialization will be a must! Otherwise it could look like my first hunting trip with Sissy, she barely moved about (the 2nd hunting trip however she left me when she hit the ground) We will be entering a FastCAT in a couple of weeks to run one of the dogs before it warms up. You may be wondering how hog hunting is going with the breed. As noted they were designed for a different era and style of hunt. I will be traveling to Italy in 2025 to learn how to properly train them. They are selected via aptitude and then raised a specific way to create a good working boar dog. Their lack of performance was the lacking of the handler.
Sissy's prey drive has also come in. Reading has taught me that not all Italians show their full potential early on, but may bloom around 2yrs old. Once in the woods and then intro'd to a rabbit, she is very interested in the hunt. She remains firmly planted on being a squirrel dog. If you have read the updated matings you know that Copper is a secondary stud. I found out several mths ago that Gwen and Sissy inherited their father (Red's) nose. They scented a squirrel out more yards than you'd believe (about 60 or more). A dot in a tree. I called it "a nose like God". If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it. Given that, there's no need to introduce his faults into my bloodline for the sake of hunting prowis. If we want to strengthen it, we will use Red again, who has finally settled down at nearly 4yrs old (no more barking). Copper may need more time but for now, it's a no for me. He elbows do not seem to be consistent with running. He does not get along with other males. He has other faults, tail and ears, but bull dog walking and male aggression is too much. His movement seems to allow him to hunt but obviously not as well, - the male aggression I'm observing/monitoring. For now, he is a NO.
PUDELPOINTER: Nothing new. Both Liam and Kylie are training for UT. Ran Kylie on a double blind retrieve in water (this was only her 2nd time out). She got one and I thought she lost the other, it dove and disappeared to God knows but she never quit looking and trying to get him. Liam had his first live duck retrieve, he didn't blink, no intro necessary. He did 1 blind water retrieve. Should be a fun fall. Hoping to get hunts in with my dad.

Sales:
UPDATED: 4/20/24. Puppies will be sold with limited registration until a hunt test has been completed and passed. For Italians that will be the SICOA hunt test and for Pudelpointers that will be a NAVHDA or equivalent. As previously stated pet puppies will be placed with pet homes as they are available; however, it is unlikely that pet puppies will be available. Watching my video, to understand more about the puppies that are being culled. It is BEST suited to a family/pet home with zero to minimal crating so the puppy can thrive. It should be picked up early before it can form attachments. The cull is CAPABLE of being obsessively noisy, chattery, but the noise is because it wants to be with you. It IS best suited to a primarily crate free home as a pet. Otherwise it harbors no temperament defects. Pet puppies will not be sold to the preferred ESTABLISHED working homes as they are culls and should not be bred (ie, show, hunting, Obedience etc). The objective is not to breed them. OLD: All of my dogs are rare breeds. They cannot afford to be placed in pet homes at this time. If that ever changes we will be sure to let the public know.
Please know, this decision did not come about due to any one person. When a dog is placed in a pet home, the country no longer has use of the dog for breeding or as an ambassador, which is critical at this stage. A certain number of them have to be registered for the breed to advance, so every dog counts. A certain number of them need to have show "titles". A pet quality dog, though not good for show, can still participate in a number of events to create exposure for the breed. In the right places, they can meet more quality breeders, increasing your opportunity and odds of getting a pet. This was the driving force behind this decision. In the future, I'm sure pets will be available, but for now, we must make use of every dog.
If you are a working home, in an effort to reduce posts on my page, dogs will have a limited number of posts which will be updated like the event schedule posts.
Litter announcements will be made through the AKC marketplace. Expect litters in the spring/summer months.
If you'd like to meet us, please come to an event. We are hoping to show, track and perhaps course in the warmer months as we no longer hunt in warm weather (snakes, allegators etc). The fall and winter months have a number of hunting seasons open that we participate in, making it ideal for hunting and hunt training, with the remainder of our activities taking place with the change of the seasons.

FUTURE BREEDING PLANS:

Segugio Italiano – Objective: First, dogs are bred for hunting ability. If conformation can be retained in that pursuit, I do my best to do so, but I always choose working ability first. There are TWO strains being built. One based on Arca and Gwen primarily Gwen as her nose has surpassed Arca’s. These are our larger all around Segits for hog, rabbit, squirrel etc. The second is based on Birdie and Sissy a smaller lean dog for rabbit and squirrel for those that want a smaller more beagle sized dog. Pet quality dogs are highly unlikely:

We've made some updates to our upcoming litters:

THERE IS SOME INBREEDING - I will be airing the lines out to diversify the genetics, but I did want to give a short explanation for the changes. I took the matings a lot more seriously when I reviewed them under the phrase: "what if this is the dogs last litter" complications or life can cause an emergency spay or God forbid anything befall the dog. What breeding can "we" live with. Arca was then no longer being bred to Silenzio, the best "last" litter for Arca is Red Sun. Each mating was held to that standard and the results are what you see below. If there is no next time, THIS is the best choice for the breeding program. Sissy and Birdie are very small and slender with slender hips, and matings are sensitive. The nose on the dogs are incredible as well. We are trying to locate a slender male for the program, or create one using Red and an imported bitch. Imports are still to come to diversify the genes, but choices are being made as if litters are the last the bitch or dog will ever have, as if there is "no next time". With that in mind, we should get the most out of each litter. I do realize inbreeding is concerning and why. The genetics WILL BE aired out!!!

2024

Arca x Behold the Red Sun (AB) : Show and hunt litter. If you're interested in show this would be a litter to look at.

Diamonds Are Forever x Red (DR): Rabbit hunters, Lure Coursing litter, likely to have pets.

Chloe x Silenzio (CS): Boar hunting litter, also good for fox, not likely good for rabbit (hunting homes only, a female will be held for breeding to Red Sun, those will be show/hunt. Silenzio has white on his chest with a white blaze on his muzzle)

Gwen x Silenzio (GS): All purpose hunting litter, may have a nice puppy here or there for show. If you're looking for all round hunting this would be the litter.

2025

Arca x (GS male): Show and Hunt litter (all purpose hunt) - she will be retired at this point

Gwen x semen import : Hunt and show litter (all purpose hunt)

Solar Eclipse x (DR male) : Rabbit and Show litter

Diamonds Are Forever x Control : Rabbit hunters

Chloe x (AB male): Show and Hunt litter

2026

Behold the Red Sun x (CS female) : Show and hunt litter

Chloe x (AB male) : show and hunt litter

Gwen x (AB male) : show and hunt litter - she will be retired at this point

(at this point the breed should be getting ready to apply for miscellaneous, at which time I'll start to slow down and prep for my "golden years" a kennel reduction and eventual fade out. It won't happen quickly as dogs live 14yrs, but I AM, older than I appear. A kennel reduction will be necessary)

PUDELPOINTERS
Our Pudelpointer line will be based on Kylie. Her prey drive came in late, but many dogs develop different characteristics at different times. Liam didn’t start pointing until he was nearly 11mths, while Kylie pointed at 3 to 4mths old maybe sooner, and as many Pudelpointers she didn’t develop a love for water until she was 11mths. Kylie is the foundation because she has bayed on scent, her prey drive is equal to that of my other prized hunting dogs Gwen and Arca, “always hunting” AND when she tracked her first rabbit, she didn’t point, she barked at it. For now the horizon is a little hazy, much of Pudelpointing is shown only on birds, the plan is to double down and replicate Kylie to give me something to work with. Hopefully I'll come across more fully bodied amiable Pudelpointers. I've seen a couple, still have to get to know folks. Kylie has an extremely EXTREMELY good temperment also, another reason to line breed her. Very intuitive, I can't say enough, "double blind retrieve in water, on live ducks, strange environment, no training, one even dove on her and she wouldn't stop." - she's just the best!!! lol. If Liam passes his hips, we'll bred him to her once and then begin the line breeding, and I'll be looking for something to cut it with, with an easy temper, great nose, and good fur game. Liam will be tested in October, if all is well she'll be bred in December with pups available in spring 2025. Both are handsome dogs, should make GOOD working dogs no matter which parent they take after.

Indoor homes are required for all prospective breeders. As always be upfront about your goals and aspirations so that we can help you, as puppies are selected FOR YOU, no one picks puppies. "What looks good, isn't always good!"

- Results 6/27/2024 Oklahoma City, OK Conformation: Behold the Rising Sun BOB, Group 2nd
-Results 6/23/2024 Doswell VA Conformation: Diamonds Are Forever BOB, Group 2nd. Expertly shown by Evan Brey!! Thanks Evan!!!! (I did not forget to create the sissy "charts"; I nearly finished them in May but due to a number of events have not completed them. I'll post is now, but it IS slightly incomplete)
-Results 5/19/2024 Lincoln NE Conformation: DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER!!!! BOB (notice the caps). I was tickled pink, I didn't know when it would happen but it was bound to. In the right hands Sissy is such a lovely dog. I'll be sure to post some of her fine points. I really like this bitch. Overall our whole purpose for being out here is breed exposure, to allow people to meet the dogs and allow the judges an opportunity to see them and put there hands on them. Above all to have FUN. So- LETS HAVE FUN AND SHOOOO!!!! lol.
-Results 5/18/2024 Lincoln NE Conformation: Behold the Red Sun, BOB. Found a trick and he showed pretty well. I increased his dose of calmer and he was primarily himself. Best part of our trip, our hotel was full of RABBITS!!! Guess who opened - their natural ability ain't no joke. I figured rabbits were there when we arrived because Sissy stared into the distance and sure enough, they got jumped, found and (not ran,,lol). Great trip
-Results 5/11/2024 Marshall Tx Conformation: Behold the Red Sun, BOB. Poor baby showed much worse than the 1st show. It was UG-LEE!!!
-Results 4/27/2024 Tulsa Ok Conformation: Behold the Red Sun, no major wins, but we got accomplished what we sought out to. Practice is one thing, but reality is something else. He was a little unsure, and his stacking fell apart. He was raised for show, a little out of practice, but overall did well. His second time in the ring, I felt his confidence, so I was pleased with that. Forgot to mention catching up with some old acquaintances, from NAVHDA who's daughter helped me with Todd thank you!!! Next stop Caddo. I'll be focused on Sissy to prep her for NE and VA. She's very different but equally as dangerous.
-Results 4/16/2024 Mesquite Tx FastCat: Solar Eclipse (nonqualifier). This was her first exposure to the sport. I was satisfied with her performance. Needs practice. Unfortunately practice will likely come via entries. There may be a number of nonqualifiers before the dog is fully "ready".
-Results 12/3/2023 Caldwell Tx NAVHDA Test: Bowman's 7th Heaven NA (Natural Ability Test) 112 Prize 1 . Special thanks to everyone involved. People congratulate me, but let me congratulate all those involved in his success. Lone Star Navhda Chapter. North Texas Pudelpointers. Bowman's Pudelpointers who worked tirelessly with us to make this happen. It was a community effort. They should all take pride in what they helped produce!
-Results 10/8/2023 Humble Tx show: First let me apologize to the Judge and the other exhibitors at Sunday’s show. After weeks of running, I finally hit a brick wall and we were unable to attend due to exhaustion.

-Results Bay Competition 9/23: Boars Nest. I’m sure everyone is wondering how the hog bay competition went and if we even made it. We did!!! With a last minute swap due to estrus, we made the trip to Tyler and jumped our fat outta shape butts in the hog bay pen!! (lol). There was a lot of disappointment in our lack of footage, tho there wasn’t much to see. But I managed a photo of Arca and Gwen with the hog just out of view.
- Results Austin Show 9/24: Some may be wondering how Kylie did. She came to the show and showed her TAIL. Lol. She really wanted to go hunting. Initially we thought it was her heat cycle as the house is coming into heat, but it was the hog scent from the bay competition. Most people don’t know this, but the Pudelpointer is often used for hog hunting in its home country. They are very versatile and I am very excited about taking them for a real spin once Liam takes his test (not hog hunting but definitely a hog bay comp). You know you have a good dog when you can’t wait to hunt him. The beautiful sound he makes like a hound running a rabbit. And that’s what we want in our Pudelpointers: A waterdog; A pointer; and A forester . I wished someone had made them to bay like a hound, and someone did. So I want to make certain that we can continue to hear the situation in the woods and when the game is coming. Photos added to demonstrate versatility of the breed, the Pudelpointer is known for upland hunting, water retrieving, deer, boar, rabbits, foxes, raccoon and squirrel.
