Today, Pinkie's Alma Mater, ABRA, Inc. And the Chicago and NWI animal community as a whole lost their fiercest ally and advocate. Today we lost Curtis Scott Dog Trainer unexpectedly. Although Pinkie never had the distinct honor of working with him, I (Matt) have worked with him with Delilah (Pinkie's foster sis), and to see him work firsthand was amazing.
This was a guy who understood dogs so completely that in the 4 years we've been with ABRA, he made success after success story, and never failed to at least improve any dog he met.
This was a guy who went into Englewood to rescue fighting dogs, abandoned and neglected dogs, and the lost and hopeless. Then he'd turn around and work with the organizations who took them to rehabilitate them.
This was the guy who founded an organization to honor those dogs who didn't make it out of shelters by holding ceremonies and ash-scattering services.
This is one of those rare souls who come into your life and, whether or not you agree with him, or even like him, changes your life in some fundamental way. And for the better.
The rescue world, and dogs in general, got a whole lot dimmer today. Damn.
