Still a bit in shock and saddened by the sudden death of Piglet. This little nugget showed up in May 2020 as part of the original crew of "Squatter" kittens that led to the founding of "Istanbulkittens." Piglet got his name because he was the greediest hungry kitten. He would sit on top of his food to prevent others from eating. He loved sunbathing, playing with cat toys, and eating. He disliked sharing, other cats (with the exception of Mo…sometimes), and winter. He is survived by his brothers Mo and Indy and sisters Timon and Pumbaa.

Our garden kitties are growing up and are almost ready for adoption. They'll be 8 weeks old next week. Both are friendly and playful. The little calico girl is more brave and curious and the big gray boy is such a big baby…he cries about the littlest things! 🤣 It would be lovely if they could get adopted and have a home of their own ❤️

Meet Domingo. This sweet one-eyed kitten is a healthy, 4 month old male. He was found outside in the garden on a Sunday afternoon in November. Both of his eyes were infected and sealed shut. He has spent the last 2 months living at the veterinarian's office treatment and eye surgery. He is now healthy and playful and looking for his forever home!

We lost this little kitty today. She was an orphaned kitten who showed up in our garden one day this summer. She was so little and alone, but one of the old male cats there would let her cuddle with him. These are two pictures of her and "grandpa" together in the garden.

The little kitty was so food motivated. She would always come out to greet us to get food, but she never really wanted to be touched. So we knew something was wrong when she didn't eat one day. Then, a few days later when she let me pet her, it was so unusual that I knew for sure she wasn't feeling well. We took her to the vet November 1st and she stayed there until she passed away this morning. She didn't have a name when we took her in, so our vet named her Ayşe. She was improving and was almost ready to come back to the garden… until 2 days ago when she suddenly got worse.

She had actually turned into such a sweet kitty during her stay at the vet. She started liking to be touched and she would even purr when she was pet ❤️ This just goes to show how well our vet cares for sick kitties. She had gone from being semi-feral to being a lap cat during her time there. We are so grateful to our vet for giving her so much love in her final days.

Tuck found his forever home ❤️ At the end of June I shared his picture as part of Rachel's Birthday Fundraiser…and then just last week, (more than 6 weeks after OP!) I received a message asking if Tuck was still available for adoption. 🎉🥳 Small miracles really can happen. We are so happy for Tuck and his new mom. These adoption stories are what keep us motivated to do the work. 🙏🏼

Meet Rachael's sponsored kitty Pinto! He was born in May 2022 and is just one month old. His pregnant mom was taken in by a cat foster home where Pinto and his 5 siblings are currently living. He is so friendly and sweet.

Thanks to Rachael, all his expenses have been paid (including future vaccinations and sterilization). He comes with a litter box and a starter supply of food. All he needs now is a loving FOREVER HOME!

Meet Pirate, a sweet 2 month old male kitten. He lost an eye, when he was attacked by another cat while living on the street. 🥺

Pirate was rescued by a woman who is on vacation here, and he is currently staying with her in her Airbnb while he gets his eye medicine, as his injured eye is a bit infected. He has had an anti flea and anti parasite treatment too!

She is desperately looking for a foster or permanent home before she leaves Istanbul this Sunday, May 29!!

She can’t take him with her now as she lives in the UK, but she would be interested in adopting him or taking him to the UK once he is old enough to get all his vaccination and paperwork to travel. But he needs a foster home until then.

Please if you can help by taking him in (foster or permanent) it would save him from having to go back outside, where he may struggle with one infected eye… 😓.

Meet Taliyah (Fortune). She is one of our "Izzy Project" kitties.

ABOUT TALIYAH: Taliyah has had some misfortune in her life, but we hope things are going to start to change for her. When we first met her she was a one-eyed mama still nursing 3 kittens. Her kittens have since been taken into a home and we just got her sterilized…apparently just in time. During surgery, the vet discovered there were cysts starting to grow in her uterus. They said we were lucky to have caught them in time. Yesterday we returned her back to her garden home.

WHAT IS THE IZZY PROJECT? The Izzy project is a spay-neuter-aftercare project for a colony of cats near Taksim square. This project was inspired by Izzy, a kitten who grew up in this colony, and now lives in USA with a family who fell in love with her while visiting Istanbul. Not only did the family want to adopt Izzy, they wanted to help with a spay-neuter project for the other cats from her garden.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! We are looking for volunteers located in the Taksim/Cihangir area to assist with the Izzy project. Please contact us if you are able to feed and monitor the cats on a regular basis. Food and supplies will be provided. Ability to trap and transport cats to vet would also be a huge bonus.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks. Haven’t had much time to catch my breath or post updates. One kitty has mouth pain when he eats, another can’t stop wheezing, another has a bloody abscess that burst on his face, another won’t eat at all, another has runny eyes, another has cloudy eyes, another has an eye that keeps getting bigger. And now… little April is having intestinal problems - she isn’t urinating on her own, which left untreated can be fatal. This is the other reality of street cat care. It’s not all belly rubs and kitty treats. Sometimes it’s medicine and vet visits and surgeries. (I’m so thankful to my vet and cat friends for their support with it all!) - Yesterday and today I tried to spend some extra time with April because she’s not feeling well, and I realized that she is teaching me little life lessons every day. Even though she must be in a lot of pain, April is still making an effort to purr up a storm and share her love with others.
