Here are some questions you probably have about The Triple Helix and that I am happy to answer!

# Who is this program for?
This program is for anyone who’s ready to dig deeper and nerd out a bit about how neurobiology, genetics, and the environment influence behavior - and how we can leverage that! No degree required—I’ll provide all the supporting material to make the science easy to understand and apply.

# How is this program different from others?
That’s an easy answer: no fluff, no boring lectures, no unnecessary filler. Many courses either overload you or barely scratch the surface. This program is about direct, applicable knowledge—no basic dog training tips, no convoluted science, just actionable insights to elevate your skills and get real results.

# If I can’t join the live sessions, is there a recording?
Absolutely! Every session is recorded, and you’ll have lifetime access to all materials, so you can revisit them anytime.

# Will there be hands-on training?
Yes! You’re welcome to submit training videos if you’d like feedback on how you’re applying the concepts. Totally optional but highly recommended for those who want an extra layer of practical insight.

# How much is it?
The early bird price is $1,250, but after November 22nd, this discount of $250 will go away and the price goes up to $1,500.

# Is there a payment plan?
Yes, you can split the cost over 3 months to make it easier.

Early bird discount ends tomorrow!

Learning & Memory: A fresh approach to reward, punishment, and behavior change.

Advanced Behavior Modification: Dive into aggression, reactivity, and stress management.

Scientific Literacy for Trainers: Decode research to elevate your practice.

This is BIGGER than anything I’ve offered before, with 9 live sessions and exclusive expert interviews.

🗣 Here’s what others have said:
“This program exceeded everything I was hoping for. It connected the dots between science and training like never before.”

After completing an incredible in-person seminar in the U.K., it’s clear once again how vital it is to connect with those dedicated to training dogs.

Despite the demands of full-time work and the constant noise from social media, I see a powerful commitment to understanding dogs on a deeper level in those who show up.

For educational seminars.

For their dogs.

For their family.

For change.

It is here, in these spaces of focus and determination, that true innovation is born.

This collective effort is what drives the changes needed in the field, bringing people together to redefine the future of dog training and fostering relationships that are both informed and transformative.

A group of people with no scientific background or deep understanding of scientific methods have flocked together to critique me and attack my professional reputation because I critiqued the setup of dog training papers of 20 years ago. I questioned the validity and conclusions drawn from it without taking sides - and yet this was reason enough to picture me as someone who is “using aggressive methods to harm dogs” and “promote the use of fear and pain to force obedience”.

The very same group is now vocal about the validity of the newest paper and raising concern.

So it’s ok to question something if it goes against your ethical stance, it’s forbidden to question something if it confirms your stance.

That’s called hypocrisy and bias. And it’s incredibly sad that the positive reinforcement movement that indeed has done a lot of good things has turned into a clown show. We lost track… and this confusion will do more harm to the welfare of dogs than it will do good.

Why should you listen to this episode with Ivan Balabanov?

If you really sit down and think through the topics discussed (and we’re going beyond your common dog trainer topics), it will become clear that there is a whole lot more to ANY word or concept you’ve used in your dog training journey.

Fear? It’s not the same as being scared…

Fallouts? It all depends on contingencies that no-one talks about…

Reinforcement? That goes beyond perfect timing and value of reward…

Play? Don’t get me started here…
Relaxation? It’s not about training a down stay…

And any label you want to use to describe Ivan’s training philosophy, throw that out too.

Punished-based dog trainer?

The “play guy”?

Labels don’t mean anything. But the thought process that goes on behind “the scene” does.

And with this interview, I hope to emphasize that we need to dig deeper and step away from rather “flat” discussions.

Together.

Scientific consensus in policy making:

“There is proper consensus regarding a scientific statement if this statement is backed by those who would directly benefit from proving it wrong.

For example, the toxicity of smoking should be considered a proper scientific consensus since it has not been challenged by to***co industry–funded research;

toxicity of ionizing radiation in high doses should be considered a proper consensus since it is accepted by radiation oncologists who are interested in applying higher radiation doses to their patients.”
Y. Socol et al (2019)

Scientific consensus on the negative effects on dog welfare will be reached when experts of the opposing sides accept it.

True or false?

De-douchefy science based dog training 👇🏻

This time I'm addressing the broader question of whether or not there is scientific consensus on dog training methods.

The answer is no. I will continue to review publications and at the end of the series, I will provide a conclusion and working framework for science based dog training.

The question of ethics came up a few times. Are ethics and science two different things? I don't think so. Scientific progress and findings are always guided by ethical considerations, keeping the welfare of affected individuals in mind. Ethics are baked into the broader question of what science can guide us for.

But more importantly, this is the body of scientific evidence used to put laws and policies in place. Let's rethink!

However, individuality is a different story...

I have no interest in harming dogs or inducing fear and anxiety. I want to bring forward up-to-date knowledge of the highest standard with scientific rigor, innovation, and empathy.

I stand against polarization and fear-mongering.

It’s time again.

Debunking some myths or half-truths over here.

Not gonna lie, this video about the path to resilience should make you feel a certain way.

Resilience…

When professional organizations deliberately leave out information, published in research for 20 years, just to keep the illusion of a political narrative intact, I’m gonna have to step up.

I won’t tell you what to do.

But I want you to have all the information you need to do right by your dog.

Because the society we live in becomes more and more stressful, so fostering resilience is not obligatory but mandatory.

I am standing at the counter of a small restaurant in Seoul (Korea) with a rumbling stomach, hurting feet from walking all day, and a puzzled look on my face.
The menu seems to allow me to buy 4 different types of dishes, but I cannot read the words.

I have low expectations that the one I pointed at will deliver me a dish with a spice level that my German taste buds can handle…

Looking back to my trip to South Korea in 2016, I sometimes try to pinpoint the moment in which things had started to change for me profoundly…

And I’m pretty sure it was when that lady behind the counter put a plate in front of me that evening with the absolute spiciest food I have ever had in my entire life!!!!!

And every moment that followed beautifully demonstrates the core principles of how we and how our dogs learn.

… it’s not about the 4 quadrants of reward and punishment
… it’s not about any fancy sequencing of concepts like NePoPo
… and it’s not about what tools you’re using

They are all constructs and labels created by us humans.
But none of it describes what learning is REALLY about.

You wanna know what no-one talks about?

That’s the topic of tomorrow’s webinar “The Neurobiology of (Un)learning” at 7pm EST.

It is simple, elegant, and beautiful and will debunk one of the biggest myths in dog training!

ABOUT

Our goal at Virginia Highland Canine Educators, Atlanta, is to create a solid, loving relationship between human and dog through communication, consistency, respect, and leadership. We develop well-trained dogs while emphasizing the importance of understanding your dog’s behavior, needs, and weaknesses. We educate humans first, enabling every dog guardian to continue the life-long training even long after the training with us ends. We do not believe one size fits all when it comes to working with canines, and therefore we conduct a thorough evaluation of the relationship between you and your dog first. Our sessions are either in-in person or remote but always 1 on 1 with Melanie, certified canine behavior educator and trainer.
