Mini is a young girl who was with her family for about a month, but due to her not getting along with the resident dog who tried to mate her, and the other dog retaliated, they decided to toss Mini like trash, claiming too many pets! Their favorite things about her is that she is loyal and passionate. Mini loves all food and treats. She loves to eat and be in the same room as you. Around strangers, Mini is friendly, outgoing, gentle and exuberant. Around kids, she was respectful, relaxed, tolerant, gentle, and exuberant. Mini was described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and confident. During her intake, she was social, came readily, and solicited attention. She was loose, wiggly and accepted contact! Now Mini sits in a cage, awaiting her savior! Mini has been there for over a month, and is ready for a home to call her own! Please make her your one and only! Don't delay, her life is on the line!

A volunteer writes: A cookies and cream little girl is awaiting her chance at adoption at Brooklyn ACC. Mini has a delicious coat, pointy expressive ears, and a pouty face! Mini dazzles us immediately with her little wiggles, short legs, and happy go lucky demeanor. She wastes no time socializing with us. Mini adores all kinds of treats (her previous owner said her favorite activity was eating!) so she gets all kinds of snacks from us. Mini really loves a pink stuffy we give her. She does laps with it in her mouth jumping onto the bench to show it off. Then bouncing off again for another round! Mini was given from one friend to another in an attempt to breed her with his current dog. Thankfully, Mini did not end up pregnant. Now Mini is with us looking for a home of her own. She was only in her previous home for two weeks, but was reported to be friendly, outgoing, and playful with strangers and children. She is a super social little girl. Mini is just 3 years old but her former owner's favorite thing about her is that she is passionate and loyal. She is working on her housetraining and is almost there! She could use a patient owner with positive reinforcement training to perfect that and help her with some understandable anxiety around other dogs.

Summary:: According to her previous owner, Mini lived with a resident 3 year old large male mixed breed dog. She was reported to not have not gotten along with him but otherwise was respectful with him. They played somewhat roughly with one another.
She reportedly corrected a dog that attempted to mate with her and he retaliated. She was surrendered with bites and scratches to the face and her previous owner states that his dog was the aggressor in the incident, although there were no witnesses.

12/30/22: While on-leash at the Care Center, Mini is introduced to a novel male dog via gate greet. She approaches and initially displays a flagging tail and tip toes, indicating she may have an assertive play style. When both dogs walk away and re-approach, she then pulls forward, lunging and hard barking. She is led away to avoid escalation.

Summary (3):: 01/27/23: *Kennel side visit* Mini is observed scratching, banging, and licking on her transfer door. Even when there wasn't another dog on the other side.

1/26 PM: Mini was observed to slam into her transfer door. She persistently bangs on it, causing the other dog on the other side to hard bark at the transfer door.

01/26/23: *Kennel side visit* Mini is observed scratching, banging, and licking on her transfer door. The handler gives her a knuckle bone which she takes.

01/20/23 When handler approaches kennel, Mini is sitting calmly in front of her kennel door. The handler unlocks kennel door and ropes her with no issue. They proceed outside for a walk. Mini displays a still, neutral body. She maintains a moderate pace while on leash, not leaving the handler's side. The handler administers treats in which Mini takes them in a tough manner, chomping hard. Once mini notices the treats in the pouch, she stands up on her hind legs to see inside. the handler politely and nicely says "down" and that was the last time mini did that during the walk. the handler returns mini back to the facility in which she enters the building and her kennel with no issue.

12/18/22: Mini is in front of her kennel when the handler approaches; She displays a loose body, tail wagging, and begins to vocalize. The handler tosses her treats which she ignores when the handler opens the kennel door she tries to push the door with her head but allows the handler to leash her. The handler Leads Mini out of the kennel room to the play yard where she allows the handler to collar and attaches a drag leash. Mini walks around the play yard and relieves herself and begins to play with a push toy. The handler re-leash her and takes her back into the center where she is placed into her kennel without issue.

Date of intake:: 12/17/2022

Date of initial:: 12/18/2022

Summary:: friendly, loose body, tail wagging, explored exam room, easily motivated/distracted by food

ENERGY LEVEL:: Mini is reported to have a medium energy level. She will need daily mental and physical stimulation in order to stay engaged and exercised.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 3

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home, Recommend no dog parks

Recommendations comments:: NO CHILDREN: Due to Mini's lack of basic manners, anxiety, and reported history of resource guarding, we recommend she be placed in an adult-only home.

Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Mini has shown during playgroup (see Dog Dog Summary) as well as her experience with the last resident dog she lived with, we feel that Mini should not visit dog parks and should be the only resident dog at this time. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Mini associate dogs with things she enjoys like toys or treats.

Potential challenges: :
House soiling,
Resource guarding,
Anxiety

Potential challenges comments::

HOUSE SOILING: Mini is reported to have accidents in the home. She will need consistency and force-free, reward-based training. See handout on House Soiling.

RESOURCE GUARDING: Mini is reported to "enjoy guarding" by her previous owner. We are unsure if this is in reference to the home or to objects/food or how this will display itself in a new home. See handout on Resource Guarding.

ANXIETY: Mini has been anxious in the care center. We have no history on her behavior in a home environment, so we do not know if this will occur outside of the care center. If it does appear in a future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving her other things to focus on to alleviate her anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training only should be used. See handout on Generalized Anxiety.

What my friends at ACC say about me:
I would do best in a home with only adult humans.
I don't always like to share my food, toys or bedding with other animals.
I am playful and cute!
