Origin of Sh*tzu

In the 17th century the Dalai Lama gave the Emperor a few copies of the breed. At the end of the 19th century, Empress Ts'eu-hi, a great admirer of these little ones, had more than a hundred of them to her credit, as well as several specialized caregivers to keep them impeccable. Unfortunately, when she passed away in 1908, the breed's popularity began to plummet.

At the beginning of the 1930s, it showed signs of resurgence with the introduction of some specimens of sh*tzu into high-birth houses, which restored a certain notoriety to the breed. At that time it began to receive new names from the style of Tibetan poodle, lhassa lion dog, etc.

In 1934 the Peking Kennel Club was finally founded, the first Club specialized in the breed. Despite this, the invasion that China suffered by Japan, caused the breed to become extinct in its own country of origin.

Fortunately, a great love for sh*tzu had developed in Europe, which had even displaced the Lhasa Apso as the favorite dogs of the wealthy. What happened is that many of the travelers who came to China returned with some of their copies.

Later, in 1955, this fashion spread throughout the United States, a country in which the breed caused a deep sensation. Later, however, the trend for shih-tzu gradually began to fade, and after the communist revolution the breed became extinct in China, although it continued to captivate Western households.

As a curiosity to comment that the complete genetic inheritance of the sh*tzu comes from seven pairs of dogs, one of which is Pekingese, and that have been identified thanks to the arduous work carried out in this regard by a few historians.

Today it is a highly valued dog both for company and for exhibition. Its magnificent coat and small size make it shine with its own light, acting as a star in dog shows. At the same time, the sweetness of his character conquers the hearts of everyone who decides to adopt him and make him one more furry member of their family.
