Phew, these guys are busy - but this is what healthy, thriving puppies look like! I would be very concerned if a pup was lying off to the side and not interested in the shenanigans. These guys are so happy :)
Esme's puppies are 5 weeks old already! It's unbelievable just how fast time flies!
Today, they had their first full bath and blow-dry. (Thanks for your help Val!) I love how all 7 are unique and really coming into their own. It's almost as if they are different puppies in the evening than what they were just 12 hours prior - they develop so quickly at this age!

Gracie’s little Fattinuggets are growing by leaps and bounds! They now look and act like tipsy little sailors, with their eyes open in wonky slits while they toddle unsteadily around. So adorable and squishy!

A Look Inside the Whelping Box: The First Few Days.
The first few days after puppies are born, hormones run high, and MamaDogs are often anxious as they settle into their roles. It usually only lasts about 3-4 days, whereafter they see me as a helper/partner and gladly share the work. (By 4 weeks they prefer I do most of it!)
Take Grace, for instance. She may feel a bit uneasy with my presence near her and her puppies. While she tolerates my attention, her preference is for me to give her space. I make sure to reassure her, conduct necessary checks on her and the pups, clean their area as efficiently as possible, and above all, respect her wishes - all in the interest of maintaining a calm environment. There will be enough time for chaos later!
She is such a beautiful dog.

Stress Relief 101
Touch tolerance is essential to a puppy's socialization and overall well-being. Regularly touching and handling a puppy from a young age helps them become accustomed to human touch, reducing the likelihood of fear or aggression towards handling as they grow older.
It also helps create positive associations with physical contact, making them more comfortable with various forms of interaction - whether at the groomer or the vet. This practice also fosters trust and a strong bond between the puppy and their human caretakers.
