We are paring down our collection in order to focus on a handful of specific projects.

Shipping can be difficult this time of year due to holiday volume and cold temps, but a $25 deposit will hold any animal until shipping is feasible.

We have several ready to breed males and females, a few proven breeders, and a few babies available currently.

Sugar Hill Ball Pythons on MorphMarket is owned by Andrew Rose and located in Farmersville, Texas. Bronze Member of USARK. Big fan of genetic stripe, all things in the yellow belly "super stripe" allelic complex, and all things dark like GHI, mahogany, Mojave, cinnamon, black pastel, and chocolate.

The hardest work in breeding snakes is in breeding the rodents necessary to feed them and getting those rodents to produce enough on a day to day to feed the collection of ball pythons we have here. Added a 4th rack on Friday to start growing out more 1.3 (male to female) colonies so they'll be ready as the current colonies start aging out.

At long last, the genetic shed test results from Asteria, my female black head 66% het genetic stripe, 50% het hypo came back from . I screamed with joy when I read that she is 100% het for both genetic stripe and hypo. I had purchased a male genetic stripe that is 100% het hypo and 100% het VPI axanthic to prove her out as I'd bought her before either hypo or genetic stripe testing had been announced but as soon as both tests were available I sent them to prove her out now while they're both still growing up to breeding age and size.

And I'm pretty sure VPI axanthic testing will be available long before these two are breeding age and weight and babies are hatched, so they'll be able to prove out the 50% hets with the babies' first sheds!

Rare Genetics, Inc., genetic testing is *the* game changer!

I thought I'd share the two clutches that hatched out the past couple of days here at Sugar Hill Ball Pythons.

The smaller clutch came from a female pewter het genetic stripe het pied a male genetic stripe. I'm pretty happy for such a small clutch to have hit on a pewter genetic stripe 50% het pied (to be genetically tested for pied) and two pastels both 100% het genetic stripe and 50% het pied.

The larger clutch came from a female I thought to be a queen bee acquired through a Craigslist ad as a "butter" which I knew to be incorrect as soon as I saw her as she was clearly a queen bee, but through this clutch she proved to be a yellow belly queen bee. She was paired to a leopard yellow belly male. I'm incredibly pleased with the outcomes of this clutch. Not bad for 1/32 odds of hitting anything with yellow belly and 1/64 odds of all other combinations including the super yellow belly combinations.

Holdbacks and evictions to be determined after sexing them.

ALERT: Austin, Texas Animal Program Ban

The Austin Animal Advisory Commission has introduced an animal program ban that is on the agenda for the June 12 meeting. This proposal bans programs with thousands of species including all animals that are "not ordinarily domesticated." Most animal species are not domesticated so this would include reptiles, amphibians, parrots, sugar gliders, most mammals, and many others.

If you keep reptiles or amphibians, you really should join and support the only organization that fights to ensure our ownership and ability to keep these animals is not poorly legislated at the state or federal level.

Currently they are, once again, fighting legislation proposed by Senator Marco Rubio that would significantly hurt us as exotic pet owners.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) has again introduced a short-sighted bill to amend the Lacey Act; S1614 with the title ‘‘Lacey Act Amendments of 2023.” The bill would reverse the USARK federal lawsuit victory by reinstating the ban on interstate transportation of species listed as injurio...

We are now Bronze Members of the United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK).

Their mission statement: The United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK) is a science, education and conservation-based advocacy for the responsible private ownership of, and trade in reptiles and amphibians. We endorse caging standards, sound husbandry, escape prevention protocols, and an integrated approach to vital conservation issues. Our goal is to facilitate cooperation between government agencies, the scientific community, and the private sector in order to produce policy proposals that will effectively address important husbandry and conservation issues. The health of these animals, public safety and maintaining ecological integrity are our primary concerns.

Sigyn was born from a pairing that involved both a yellowbelly and a gravel. It was not known if she inherited the YB or the gravel gene, but genetic testing by Rare Genetics, Inc. (available via MorphMarket and CLTCH) proved that she did not inherit the gravel gene. Genetic testing is a groundbreaking development in ball python breeding as it means we no longer have to wait 3 or so years and pair the animal to find out what genetics are present.

So far they can test for the entire "Yellow Belly" or "Super Stripe" allelic incomplete dominant complex which includes yellow belly, spark, specter, gravel, and asphalt genes and the recessive genes of piebald, clown, lavender albino, candy, and toffee. Recessive gene testing is the real game changer especially for the more rare recessives that can be cost prohibitive to buy a 100% heterozygous female as it allows a breeder to purchase a 100% heterozygous male (typically for less than half of what a female would cost), breed him to a non-het female for 50% het babies, and then have the sheds off the offspring tested to confirm which are actually het for that gene.

To date we've had two possible het piebald females test positive and a 50% het clown test negative along with this gravel test that came back negative. I have a female enchi yellowbelly or asphalt female to test soon too.

My wife, Dione, loves the spiders and bees and chose to break from our normal naming convention of deities and demons to name them for characters from Neil Gaiman's Lucifer. We have a 6th spider (she's spider 100% het VPI axanthic) that is named Circe, as she is the daughter of Dione's favorite snake and her most aligned Goddess, Hekate.
