It has been a challenging year for Letty, first with ulcers, then laminitis and now collateral ligament injury. I am therefore making the decision to close Delamere Forest Guided Horse Rides

Letty and I had great fun meeting you all, and sharing our favourite hacks with you. Thank you to everyone who came to ride with us. Hopefully at some point in the future, Letty will be back riding around the forest. 🤞

Happy hacking everyone. Love Janene and Letty ###

The BHS have partnered with the University of Bedfordshire on a PhD research project to explore how equestrian activities, as well as the horse-human partnership, can impact our mental health and wellbeing. These findings will be critical when it comes to understanding the valuable benefits of equestrian activities and to encourage greater participation across the industry.

To kick start this research project, we are surveying equestrians across the UK to uncover how they are spending time with horses and what impact this is having on them.

To do this, we need your help! You can support us in two ways.

Please share this survey with your network and encourage as many equestrians to take part as possible. Whether they are a rider, owner, employer/employee/volunteer at an equestrian centre/organisation or involved in any other interactions with equines.
If you engage in equestrian activities, please do take a short amount of time out of your day to fill in the survey.

It should take no longer than 20 minutes and will be invaluable to our research. The more people we reach, the better we can understand the relationship between spending time with equines and mental health!

Forestry England, supported by us here at the BHS, are asking horse riders and carriage drivers to give their views in a survey published online 20 February.

The survey closes on 9 April 2023 and can be accessed using this link https://www.bhs.org.uk/about-us/latest-news/forestry-england-seeks-horse-riders-views-for-permit-review/

Many of the forests managed by Forestry England have access for horse riding, such as on forest roads, and some have extra facilities including horse box parking areas. In some forests, where Forestry England needs an enhanced relationship with riders and carriage drivers to help manage sensitive environments, they use a permit system to allow horse riding.

Forestry England’s review needs experiences and thoughts from across the riding community, including those who use permits as well as those who do not. The valuable insight will help them thoroughly assess the permits currently being used and consider how best to use them to manage horse riding and carriage driving in the nation’s forests.

In their review and the survey, the term ‘horse riding’ is used by Forestry England to include all equine riding activities, including pony riding and carriage driving. Similarly, ‘horse riding permits’ refer to permits issued for recreational riding, and carriage driving, of all equines.

We would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete the survey by the 9 April.

Magic certainly lived up to his name for his new Mum tonight. Good as gold, and didn't complain about being tired. Such a lovely young horse, not been backed long, and he was wonderful. Well done Wendy, you picked a beautiful boy in him!

Last night we had returning guests from our favourite equine feed delivery Manor Farm, Feed & Bedding . Lovely to see Wendy and Natalie again. We stayed clear of Noel Gallagher and his "High Flying Birds" though and stuck to the other side of the forest. Not sure the horses would have appreciated a concert 😂🎤🎶🎸🎵
