Who doesn’t love a cookie? This little sweetie is our Cookie, affectionately known as the ‘Cookie Monster.’ Cookie is about 16 months old and will be looking for her forever home soon. Cookie came to us after having surgery for pyometra. She had a pretty bad case so it’s taken her some time to recover from the infection. When we got Cookie she was extremely timid and her little tail stayed tucked all the time. She would sit in the corner or under the table seemingly unsure of everything. She is feeling much better now and her Westie personality is coming out in full force, along with her tail, high and proud! She does great with the two Westies in her foster family, loves playing with toys, playing fetch, chasing the water from the hose, and does well on walks (but could use some work on pulling). We think she would do well with another dog(s) that have a similar energy level. She must have a traditionally fenced yard, no underground fencing. She does well around older kids, 8 and above, as she can still be ‘puppy’ rambunctious when playing. She loves cuddling, having her belly rubbed, and laying on your head in bed, ha. She is house trained and UTD on her vaccinations. If you think you might be the perfect family for Cookie, email us at [email protected] and we will send you an application. If you have an application on file and are interested, just let us know.

UPDATE-we have the perfect home for the girls. They have settled in their new home and doing great. Thanks to everyone that expressed an interest.

Meet Emma & Biannca! These adorable littermates sadly lost their mom recently. The family had 5 Westies. Various family members are taking the other 3, but it was their mom’s wish, and is important to the family, that these sweet girls stay together. They just had a birthday 2 weeks ago, turning 9. They are house & crate-trained, get along great with other dogs, like kids and even kitties! That’s a rare find in a Terrier, let alone 2!!

These healthy & happy girls are up-to-date on their vaccinations, heartworm & flea/tick preventative, are spayed and microchipped. They are ready to go, and we would love to find them a great foster-to-adopt home. Might that be with you???

Emma & Biannca are in the Middle TN area, and approved foster/adopters must be willing to travel to pick them up and not have underground (invisible fencing) or children under the age of 8. This is the PERFECT time of the year to add 2 little cuties to your home and hearts!

If interested, please reach out to us via email (no private messages, please) at [email protected]. We will send you an application and answer any questions you might have. If you have submitted an application to us over the past 6-9 months, please let us know. Thanks!

Let’s all welcome Watson to the good life. We know very little about his story other than he was picked up as a stray and no one claimed him. A sweet lady that works helping to rescue dogs reached out to us and we couldn’t say no to that sweet little face! We think he is probably between 3-4 years old and we know he is full of Westitude! He is not ready to be adopted yet but wanted to introduce him to everyone. Welcome Watson!! He is being fostered in the Memphis area.

Update: Thank you to everyone that expressed an interest in Abby. Miss Abby has found a home!

We wanted to post another picture of our little Abby, who is looking for her forever home. Abby is looking for a home within our operating area of TN/AL/North MS where she can been the queen of her kingdom and have a nice traditionally-fenced backyard to run and chase after squirrels. She loves her toys and loves her humans! Other female dogs, not so much... If you meet this criteria and are interested in applying for Miss Abby, please email us at: [email protected]. She is housebroken, has recently been spayed, is microchipped and up-to-date on all of her vaccinations, testing & monthly preventatives. Abby will be 3 in December.

We have a sister chapter in need of foster homes in the NC area. Please offer your help if you live in that area!

We are looking for foster homes for 3 dogs. Preferably in the Hreater Charlotte region for medical care through our rescue’s vet.
A 5 yo male westie, 7 yo male Cairn and a 10 yo female westie mix. Both of the males will need to be neutered as well as other medical care. They are from a hoarding situation so they will need some love and patience. The female is a senior that needs some medical care as well.
We can not help these dogs without foster homes.
If you can help us help them please fill out our volunteer form through the link below.

UPDATE—Thanks everyone. We have foster homes for the pups. Thanks for all your interest. If you filled out an application we will keep it on file for future adoptions.

We have two young Westies joining the family soon, one male and one female. Neither are one year old yet. They are coming from a retiring breeder home that we have worked with in the past and he has reached out to us again to help place these little cuties. Neither have been fixed yet. We are looking for fosters and/or foster-to-adopt homes. Ideally we would prefer homes in the Huntsville to Birmingham area as we have vets in those areas that will work with our rescue in getting them spayed and neutered—however this is not a must for the right home. These puppies have been raised in the home, are mostly house-trained and use a doggie door. Requirements for adoption are you must have a traditionally fenced yard; no children under the age of 8, preferably 10; we will do a vet reference and home visit.
If you think you might be interested in one of these Westies, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we will send you an application to fill out. Now let’s find these little ones homes!!

Please be aware that there are numerous scammers posting fake posts/comments on our page. Typically trying to sell puppies or shirts. We try to delete and block when we see them but needless to say there are more of them than us. Do not click on their links or message them and definitely don’t send them any money.

This little westie is available for adoption in the Huntsville area only, Huntsville Humane Society. She is HW+ and they will pay for her treatment. You can apply in the link if you are interested. She is a cutie!!

Hi! I'm Willa. I'm a West Highland Terrier and I'm estimated to be between 3-4 years old. I'm a super sweet girl who loves attention. I've been in a foster home where I played with other dogs, a cat , and I've worked on my house manners. Unfortunately I am heartworm positive. I have started my treatment which is covered by ghhs. Because my treatment is in Huntsville I do need to be adopted in the Huntsville Metro area and my adopter will be responsible for getting me to the vet. Once I start my injections I will have some activity restrictions for around 3 months. If you're interested in giving me a home apply at ghhs.

We do not have these dogs but are sharing for Westie Rescue SouthEast.

I know we had several folks interested in our bonded pair and wanted to share in case you might be interested in these two cuties. They will have to be adopted together, must have a traditionally fenced yard, and a home visit will be required. They are being fostered in central Alabama. Please reach out to WR SouthEast if interested. They have been loved all their lives and are looking for their perfect family.

Let’s give a big welcome to little Miss Ziva. Ziva’s family felt like she would do better in a different environment and with a family that could ensure her skin issues were kept under control. Ziva is 15 months old and comes from a family of NCIS fans. She was named after Ziva on NCIS and there is also a Mr. Gibbs and Abby in the household 😊. Many thanks to Patsy and David for jumping in and picking her up and Mary and Jim for ‘fostering-to-adopt’ this cutie. Mary and Jim have adopted from us before and fostered numerous dogs. Let’s welcome Diva Ziva to the family!!

She is not available for adoption!

23/02/2023

Meet Dwight! Dwight is an almost 7 month-old neutered male puppy who is now in our care and in board-n-train with our fabulous trainers, Stacee & Brian. To say Dwight is feisty is an understatement, but in training, he is learning how to correctly direct his puppy "bossiness" in the right manner and be submissive to his commands. His former family loved him, but were just not equipped to work with this little guy. They decided it would be the best thing for Dwight to surrender him and let him go to someone who had a lot of Westie experience and could continue actively working with him after the official board-n-train ends. Dwight will remain in his in-house training until March 8 (or before), and then needs to go to a home where his new folks are 100% committed to diligently piggybacking on his current training. His new person (or persons) should be experiencing in training and able to be firm with Dwight when he needs it, and not just "roll over" when he gets bossy with them. The problem before was that he would put up a real fuss when he either didn't want to do what his people wanted him to do and/or he got too tired. At this point in a puppy's life they need very good nutrition (that was a problem before too) and still lots of crate time-out rest time. We all love puppies and want to play, play, play with them, but what is really best for them is a strict structure of training, playing and rest time.

Please do NOT apply to foster-to-adopt Dwight if you have children or plan to start a family soon. He came from a home with twin 9 year-old's and they were not a good fit for him.

The person we choose for Dwight's new foster-to-adopt home MUST be willing to come to the Franklin, TN area to pick him up exactly on or slightly before March 8th. This is VERY important.

If you are interested in Dwight, please email us at [email protected] to request an application and to answer a few brief questions prior to us sending you an application. Thanks!

Update—Thank you to everyone that expressed an interest in Cooper and Winston. They have found their forever home. We will update with pictures soon. Thanks again!!

Cutie patooties Cooper & Winston are having a fun time hanging at Auntie Diane's house while they review adoption applications. She is taking them for long walks which they LOVE. We have sent out applications to everyone who requested one and meet the criteria, but the boys want you know they are still accepting applications. Auntie Diane said you should email the Westie Rescue of TN/AL folks to request an application, if interested. [email protected]

We know it's a new year, and everyone is feeling the financial effects of the holidays, but we would also like to ask if you would be willing to help us out a little too. Over the last couple of month, we have taken in several Westies, all of whom needed extensive vetting. Just over the weekend and into this week, we have spent close to $2000 in vet bills, and that is with GENEROUS discounts from our vets! The coffers are getting dangerous low, and we have been unable to do much fundraising in the last 12 months. If you would like to donate, your donations would 100% tax-deductable because we are a 501(c)3 organization. To donate, our PayPal address is: [email protected]. Our Venmo address is: Dog-Mama_1871, and our address for checks is: 3845 Somers Lane, Thompsons Station, TN 37179. Thank you in advance, and be looking for upcoming updates!

This is Diane with WRT. Just FYI, the scammers are out in full force today (and everyday). They are posting a link about buying t-shirts, puppies and other things. Please do not click on any link not posted by WRT or someone you know. I have blocked about 15 people today but they just change names and repost. Just be very careful!

The Westie train, of which there are many cars, will be running from West TN to East TN on Sunday to help move newest foster pup, Pepe up to where he can see our wonderful Dr. Hnilica at The Itch Clinic next week. Pepe has been well-loved by his mom and dad, but living near a paper mill apparently causes some serious skin issues to some doggies. These folks are Westie-wise owners, as Pepe is their 4th Westie. That just goes to show this sort of thing could happen to any of us. We are confident that "Dr. H" will get him on the path to recovery. We have certainly seen worse! He will then be fostered in the Kingport area. Welcome, Pepe, and many thanks to all the volunteers giving up some precious weekend time to help him!

Happy Gotcha Day greetings are also in order for sweet 9 year-old Winston! He, too, had a doggie mama who worked lots of hours, traveled a good bit and was finding it hard to make ends meet. Winston joined us right before Christmas and is now bringing much joy to his new dad, Mark! Mark recently lost sweet Jackie O! who he adopted from us years ago and was missing the caregiver role. He particularly wanted an older dog who needed him as much as he needed a dog. Winston now enjoys long, daily walks, sunning himself in Mark's perfectly manicured backyard and hanging out with his dad watching Family Feud. Both guys are real charmers and very special to Westie Rescue of TN/AL!

Meet Max! Max came to us from a sweet doggie mama who was just working too many hours away from home and having to leave this munchkin crated too much. She wanted a better life for him, so she surrendered him to us. He is now the proud "furry son" of Kim and Scott in Franklin, TN. We met Kim awhile back when they adopted Westie, Duncan, from another local rescue, Snootygiggles. They have had many Westies over the years and are just the type owners Max needed. He is smart, full of energy and mischievous on occasion...a true Westie through and through. We wanted to be sure we included a picture of him when his human brother came home from Basic Training. We know he is going to make a fine Marine! Thanks to the whole family for giving Mr. Max the best home possible!

Santa's elves had to work a little more overtime this week to help a sweet little Westie girl who needed to be rescued before Christmas, but they came through with flying colors! Thank you to Stephanie for handling the pick-up and hand-off to Joyce & Roger in Cookeville who then drove straight back 3-1/2 hrs. to the Kingsport, TN area. This is 6 year-old Lola who was recently relieved of her breeding duties (thankfully, after 5 litters...grrr). She was sold over the internet to a very nice lady who loved her, but quickly realized she could not care for her, as she was home-bound and on a walker. She asked if we could take and find a wonderful forever for home her, so we jumped into action. Welcome to the good life, precious Lola! Your future is as bright as your cute little face! Thanks to all involved for agreeing to help on a very busy Christmas week! This is what foster-to-adopt looks like. :)

18/12/2022

Most of you will remember Belle, the little Westie our rescue took in several months ago. Belle was found wandering on the streets of Huntsville with a huge hernia about the size of a grapefruit and, of course, skin issues. Well, look at her now with her ‘foster-no-longer’ family. It took a lot of work and patience on her Mom and Dad’s part integrating her into the doggie family but it has all paid off in the long run. So many people think a rescue/new dog should just seamlessly fit into a family. It happens sometimes but certainly not always the case. Both of their other dogs were rescues from us as well and came with their own set of issues. It’s taken several months, a few fights, a few tears, and lots of patience and love to get to this point. We couldn’t ask for a better family for this little girl and we will forever be grateful to Karen and Mike for hanging in there to make this the perfect family for Kenzie, Kash and Bonnie Bell.

From Mom and Dad:

Update on our foster Westie pup:
Yep you guessed it, no longer a foster! She is going to be our very own Bonnie Belle! After these three got their differences over with, all is good and they are a little pack. Kenzie the Yorkie in Mikes lap will retain the “Queen” spot. Lol Belle is very taken with Kash and they are going to be great friends. (If Belle has anything to do with it 🤣) We have a trio again!!❤️❤️❤️
