This post will give some insight as to how things are. Pet Tales Rescue is the rescue that saved Autumn and Leo! They are currently on an intake hold and could use some help! If you can donate, great! If not, a simple share would be just as great!

It is with great sadness that our little buddy Leo passed away this afternoon. He was such a loving, patient soul and gave the best kisses! It’s comforting to know that he’s reunited with his sister, Autumn; the Dynamic Duo is back together again! We can hope that Leo found a nice swimming hole and is splashing around trying to catch the drops of water! Thank you for following their journey, it’s been an awesome one!

Happy National Pitbull Awareness day! We love our pitties so much. These two have been the perfect example of how truly amazing pit bulls are. Sweet, loving, friendly, and of course very cuddly! Thank you everyone for loving these babies!

It’s been a busy summer, so I apologize for the lack of posts! Here is a reset of cuteness!
This is Piper, one of our fosters (who is available for adoption 😉), playing with Leo. We have had a lot of fosters come through our house, but this is the first time I have ever seen one come to Leo’s level to play with him. She absolutely loves him! My heart melts every time I see them do this 💕

Took Leo for an afternoon boat ride. He enjoyed it.

As Leo’s disease progresses it affects the coordination of his throat. Because of this, he has problems with aspirating liquids. He has his own slow-drinker water bowls to keep him safe. Unfortunately, after many creative attempts we have not found a safe way to let him in the big pool without aspirating. Don’t worry though, he is just as happy splashing in his own private kiddy pool. I still think he has the best smile 😊🐶
Update: videos finally made it into the comments!

We had the first camping trip this year recently! It was a chilly weekend so Leo spent a lot of time cuddling in his coat. When the sun was out Leo enjoyed his wagon rides! 🥰🏕🔥🐾

Leo update- I am so amazed at how some of our other dogs have stepped up to support Mr. Leo! Our Rio and foster Natalie have been cuddling with him a lot since Autumn passed (so have mom and dad.... a LOT). I’m not going to lie, he’s been sad. I know he misses her. But we’ve made sure he’s not ever alone. He’s been eating, drinking, cuddling and even playing. We love him to pieces, and appreciate all of your support!
PS- I still can’t figure out how to get videos and pictures in the same post 🤷♀️, so see comments for pictures.

It is with great sadness that our sweet little Autumn passed away this afternoon; laying in her favorite bed at home with Leo by her side. Autumn was the Queen of the house! She had the sweetest soul and loved everyone. We are going to miss her so much. Thank you for following her journey!

We’ve been trying to find a way to have their chairs support more of the front half of their body as they get weaker. We haven’t gotten it down quite yet, but they’re getting closer!

Where it Began
Autumn and Leo are originally from Detroit, Michigan. They were born with congenital cerebellum degeneration. Because of this they have gradually worsening coordination which makes them unable to walk on their own. However, they don’t let that stop them from living their best life!
Rumor has it, Autumn and Leo were bred. Shortly after being born, the breeders noticed that these two pups could not walk. They were keeping them in their basement and were reportedly planning to “throw them out,” most likely because they couldn’t make any money off of disabled pups. A good Samaritan was able to save them and turn them over to the Detroit Pit Crew Rescue. From this point, they received excellent care and were fostered for a few months. In this time they saw a neurologist, worked with Physical Therapy and obtained wheelchairs. They were transferred to Pet Tales Rescue where they reside with their current foster parents.
Autumn and Leo were taken in by a young couple in Portage, Michigan. In the beginning, Autumn and Leo were going to physical therapy and doing home exercises to make them stronger, more coordinated, and as independent as possible. Autumn and Leo were both improving significantly. Leo was able to almost walk across his foster parents living room without assistance and Autumn wasn’t far behind. As time went on their foster parents noticed a drastic change in Leo. He seemed to have suddenly gotten weaker and unable to perform tasks he had been doing. At the same time, Autumn seemed to have gotten a little better and stronger. However, a short time later the foster parents noticed Autumn had started to decline as well.
Due to the drastic change in the pups, Leo was referred to a veterinary neurologist in Farmington Hills, Michigan. With the help of the community money was raised for further testing, including an MRI and lumbar puncture (evaluation of cerebral spinal fluid). Testing was completed and nothing was found. This means they excluded any “treatable” condition. They had a new diagnosis of cerebellar congenital degeneration.
After the recent report from the neurologist it was decided to place Autumn and Leo as hospice fosters. Their foster parents agreed to keep Autumn and Leo in their home and make them as comfortable as possible until the inevitable happens.
With whatever time we have left, Leo and Autumn’s foster parents are determined to keep them positive and active as much as possible. They are going to do fun things with them and have created a “bucket list” of fun things to do with them and are ALWAYS open to suggestions.
This page will keep everyone updated on their progress and what they have been up to!
