We have some news, our sweet Molly girl is back with us!.
Those of you who have been following my page since the beginning and know, molly has manageable SSA/dominance behavior which was obviously made known to anyone who had been interested in her when I had decided to place her last year, including the family I had placed her with, however She was unfortunately going through a rough time in her new home with another female malamute that was brought into the home after her, and sadly after a year of struggle between the two, both I and the family I had placed her with, had agreed that it would be best if she return to us. I'm not going into anymore detail just to respect the sweet family I had placed her with as it was an unfortunate situation but overall I'm extremely excited and happy that she is back here with us and can receive everything SHE personally needs to thrive and be the happiest she can be. As many of you may or may not know, malamutes can be prone to developing SSA (Same s*x aggression) and dominance behavior; not all, but its definitely a possibility with this breed! With that being said it is really important that you take the time to not only raise your puppy/adult dog correctly, but also keep up with correcting behaviors to maintain a healthy and safe relationship not only between you and said puppy/adult dog but your pack and anyone else involved!Boundaries have to me made/set and understood!.
I am in no way judging her previous owner but I do believe that it is extremely important to have these rules in place to have a successful and safe relationship between you and your pack! With that being said, I have already begun working with Molly on her dominance behavior and after 2 days, I can say that we have made exceptional progress and she has been able to be around my female with no aggression!. Like I said before, I am in no way judging her previous owners, but more so trying to stress the importance of doing your research on this breed and setting the proper boundaries/rules so that everyone involved can truly be happy. Even if you DO have experience with this breed, as every malamute can be different which is why it is so important to educate yourself and make sure you are prepared and capable of handling anything that may occur with your puppy/adult dog.
Molly's dominance is NOT genetic and could have easily been developed when she was with her previous breeder before I added her to my program in the first place. We knew she was female selective/dominant but it was completely manageable when she was in my care!
When it comes down to the reality of it, She is just a dominant female that NEEDS an owner who can be her leader/Alpha and with that, she is able to be around other females and even males without showing aggression!.
With that being said, she will be staying here with me and will not be placed again as I truly believe she is her best self when she is with me!.
I WILL be adding her back into my program and I believe that pairing her with our male Neeko, will bring us stunning GIANT babies!
I will be sure to update everyone on any planned litters from her when that time comes!.
