Born: November 22nd, 2021
A healthy, sweet, male budgie! Partially hand-tamed and handled since hatching, he is a very curious, gentle budgie. He doesn't shy away from people unless you reach your hand too close, and he doesn't bite. Not very sociable with other birds, he does sing to himself often and generally plays with toys by himself. He isn't mean to other birds, though.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me!

Please note that I work privately from the Roseau County, Minnesota region. If you're interested in purchasing a budgie, we will have to work out a time and date to meet at Guff's Stuff in Roseau, MN. I can bring the bird there for you to meet and/or purchase.
I can not provide you with cages, toys, food bowls, or water troughs for the budgies. However, I can provide a small bag of the food they're fed, enough to last roughly a week. This makes it easier to transition them to another food you may want to feed them by mixing the two.

Yellow & Green Female Budgerigar
Born: November 26th, 2021.
A healthy, curious, female budgie! Partially hand-tamed and handled since hatching, she is a bit shy and weary of humans although I'm sure she'll be easy to tame down if she's separated from the rest of the flock. She's very sociable with other birds, and is often seen playing with chewable, wooden toys and ringing bells.

It's been a while! A lot of stuff came up, but now I'll be able to dedicate more time to the birds 😁. Expect at least two budgies to be listed for sale within the week!
Until then, here's a picture of Loki being silly.

No pictures right now, unfortunately, but an update on taming status regardless!
Bean is pretty tamed down, she won't perch yet but she will very hesitantly take millet from a hand and typically won't freak out if I do put my hand in the cage.
Lil' Blue is a whole different story! She's still very easily spooked, will only eat millet if I'm not holding it, and will still freak out if I put my hand in her cage. It's rather odd, considering she must still remember me from when I was hand-feeding her constantly as a small chick 🤔
I'll keep trying though! I think the male yellow/green chick might actually be easier to hand-tame compared to the two girls I'm taming right now, he doesn't run from the corner of the cage if I approach the big cage. Although he is a bit of a biter, so maybe he's just challenging me...I'll have to find out eventually!

The taming process hasn't been speedy or as productive as I thought it'd be! Not much progress has been made with them, I think a big problem was the fact I didn't separate them into different rooms; they have always been within 5-10 feet of each other. Since I decided I'm keeping 'Bean', the yellow & green female I separated, I'm going to keep Lil' Blue (4th chick) downstairs on my desk. This way she'll be completely separated from the others, and more likely to calm down since we'd be her new 'flock'.
Fortunately for me, she's discovered millet! Finding a birds favorite treat is always a big bonus while taming, now I have bribery 😁
I might not hand tame her down to the point of stepping up onto fingers, but I've yet to decide.

Two chicks have been successfully placed into taming cages! Now that they're put into individual cages, I'm going to spend a lot of time teaching them to be comfortable around humans (and how to step up onto fingers!). The green and yellow female I transferred is Chick Number 2, as she's a little sweetheart and the only one that didn't bite as I clipped the flocks flight feathers. Of course, Lil' Blue is the 4th chick and is still easily spooked for now😁
I'll post taming progress once or twice a week!

Big news! The budgies are 100% weaned, and we can somewhat confidently confirm male/female. Two of the green & yellows are females, one of them is a male, and the blue & yellow (the youngest) is a female. Of course, we'll be keeping one female budgie to pair up with one of the bachelors in the other cage to hopefully have two batches of chicks at a time, but the rest will be for sale after hand taming!
Yesterday, I trimmed the chicks' primary flight feathers, allowing them to glide but not fly entirely. Today, I'll begin to transfer them into individual cages to hand tame fully, hopefully only taking a month or so.
Loki has been slowly undergoing his own training, harness training! A long process as he's quite a little stubborn birdie, but one that will be greatly appreciated by him when he gets to socialize with other people in the great big world outside the house 😄

Here's the setup for how I deep clean the bird cages! I do this a handful of times a year, generally at the end of each season. First, I mix lukewarm water, vinegar, and a mild dish soap into a large bowl; I use 3 part water, 1 part vinegar (I use distilled white vinegar, if you use otherwise make sure its healthy for your birds first), and a few drops of mild dish soap.
I allow all PLASTIC and METAL toys/toy parts (And food and water dishes) to soak for a few minutes before rinsing and washing with hot water, then allowing to dry.
For WOODEN toys, I soak in just warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap, rinse in hot water quickly, then allow to air dry. However, if you do this it's important to note some wooden toys will have the typical colorful dyes you see, and they likely will fade and bleed out. That's not too much of a worry though, on most toys you can re-dye the wood with liquid food coloring you can pick up at the grocery store! There's many tutorials on how to do this online.
I also will use a clean brush or sponge to take the vinegar mixture and scrub the cage bars, however I will have to wait until I put the budgies into another cage to do this in order to prevent escape attempts!

It's been a while since I've posted! The budgies are successfully weaned at this point, eating and drinking independently and able to sustain themselves. However, I am going to trim their primary flight feathers and focus on hand taming them individually before putting them for purchase. By the time I'm done they'll be (Ideally!) harness trained and friendly towards people, as right now they're a bit skittish.
Later today I'll be posting better pictures as well as how I deep-clean their cages and toys! For now though, here's a few of the babies and a picture of Loki 😊

Our flock a couple nights ago, excluding Buddy.
All of the chicks except the ligtle blue one have their primary flight feathers now, and arent afraid to use them! I'm going to trim them to make hand + harness training easier, and hopefully teach them a basic 'Step up' onto the finger command.

They've left the coop! After a few days of them peeking in and out of the box, I found that Evie was trying to lay another clutch of eggs. I removed the nest box so she wouldn't stress herself too much, and now the chicks are going to adapt to life outside of the box.

I've neglected posting the past two days, figured I mind as well catch up!
The 1st chick seems to be losing a small bit of weight the past few days, so I'm going to begin co-feeding all of them once again. This way I'll be able to incorporate hand training aswell.

New day, new feathers! All images were taken Dec. 10th. It's fascinating how bright they all look on the wings; neither parent has yellow that vibrantly. The 4th one even looks like they're going to come out all dark colored, perhaps?

The current progression of the budgie chicks! As this is the first clutch raised by the new breeding pair, Evie & Buddy, the pictures are currently limited; we didn't want to disturb the mother too much and risk her abandoning the chicks. The 4th born doesn't have many pictures taken; the chick doesn't have many feathers yet and is quite small, so I don't like taking it out of the nest box for long.
