Sweet MollyBrown gave 3 1/2 quarts of milk tonight…
However, I can’t drink it so we’ll feed it to the goats. We have done two days of hormone shots so I don’t really want to drink this milk is probably OK but …….the milk has a good generous head of cream.
The girls get the AI straws tomorrow..
with all the rain, we were not able to take them into the vet so I had to do some of the pre-work here pulling the estrogen CiDrs and giving two estrogen shots. Everybody’s OK no one got hurt. I feel pretty good.
Eric Irion.. MollyBrown is Angus-Holstein.. I got her with the idea if I did more bottle babies calves that I could use her as a wet nurse…good thing turned out she had to nurse one of the calves this spring his mama didn’t have any milk
Today’s adventure…. Rain rain rain.. changing our SandBottom farm to mud bottom . It was imperative to get the CiDrs pulled from the perspective, new moms and give them their shot of estrogen.
To load them up and take them to the veterinarian was impossible. Bill, me, good neighbor Kim Miller and Benjamin ran the cows through the chute, I pulled the CiDrs and gave the shots!
No one got hurt and the job is done . Tomorrow 1 one round of shots .. Wednesday Mineral Wells comes back to finish up
Several cups cups and then on with the day. Milking & Fence building
Wellllll new to me and new to MollyBrown.. I chose to put her in the headchute just cause I didn’t know how she would do. She did great.
I did not want to stress her so I milked quite a bit onto the ground before I milked into the pale, but I still got a quart and a half not bad for first time. I’m sure I’ll be able to get a gallon out of a day.
Got the call… “Cows are out”
Raining …just about dark thirty
What a way to end the day. Third bath for the cow dog maaaa maaaa and a bucket of feed
Activities on the Alice of SandBottom Farm.. CiDr day
Expert team from Mineral Wells Animal Clinic… Julie , Kevin & intern Maddie
For AI (artificial insemination ) a CiDr is inserted …in one week it will be pulled. Estrogen Shots will be given to encourage estrogen production, and Egg production.. then within 24 hours a s***m straw will be inserted. and nine months later.. calves 🤪💕💕💕

Played some nightshade paintball in the hay field Can’t get them all put definitely decreased the zombie nightshade population
Working on fence .. still .. forever. Just about finished with hollow oak, three board fence & oak stand grazing areas. This will give me 6 rotational pastures. The cows are on 70 mph pasture until the end of this week. Then they will go to the next area. We have had them on our hay pasture to aid in fertilizer. Now we run the harrow and let it grow!
