We are sorry for the radio silence over the past few months. We have been taking a break, reevaluating and changing the direction we would like to pursue.

After this hiatus we are glad to be back, but are headed in a new direction! We looked at our most important market, the local Wichita, KS market, and found the lack of interest for breeder quality cresteds at this time. Due to that we are going to be moving away from breeding crested geckos and turning that focus towards enclosures & other products. After reviewing our enclosure designs, processes, supply chain, pricing, etc. we are going to be moving a little slower and not rushing into a product we don't feel 100% confident in both quality and pricing. The look and design of our first enclosures will be a little different than what we had planned for, but our original design will still be something to look forward to in the future. We came to a point where we were trying to create a business too quickly, and ultimately became overwhelmed between breeding & making cages.

To be clear we are NOT custom enclosure builders and have zero plans to do that. Mostly because we do not want lead times when we launch like other companies have. We want a product that is in stock and will ship out ASAP.

Moving forward we don't have any breeding plans for the 2023 season, and we will be selling most of our crested geckos. We would like to have them go to a breeder as a whole, or multiple breeders that we can trust. If you're in the Wichita, KS area and think you'd be a good fit feel free to send us a message about them!

We are not going to be setting hard dates or making promises on any releases. From here on out we are going to be focusing on the passion of providing enclosures rather than generating income. This may mean our products take a little longer than you or we'd like, but taking our time will allow us to make something we truly are proud of.

Lastly, we are so thankful for everyone's support along this journey! It has been a rollercoaster to say the least; however, everyone's interest in seeing us succeed has been a motivating factor along the way.

This is Mandarin, she is going to be apart of our tangerine project. One thing we have noticed with the tangerine morph compared to the "orange" morphs, is that the white pigment (usually on the tails, knees, and backs of legs) turns tangerine. You can see this in some of the photos showing her tail.

We are looking for a really high contrast male tangerine to increase that tangerine pigment. Once we get her the right male (and maybe another tangerine female 🤔) we will really see how this tangerine stuff works first hand.

After about two years of posting on here we realized that we haven't introduced ourselves! Blackout Cages & Exotics is owned by Skylur & MaKalee currently in the Wichita, KS area.

Throughout his childhood, Skylur has kept reptiles and other exotics that include various lizards, snakes, turtles, & arachnids.
MaKalee has always had a soft heart for all animals; however, found her love for reptiles later in life when Skylur bought her a leopard gecko.

We both fell for Crested geckos due to all the possible morphs. We purchased our first few geckos from a local breeder. These include Koa, Oliver, & Carmello which we still have to this day!

After experiencing inconveniences with most commercial cages we started looking at building something better. We found that plastic enclosures are much better for our needs, & that many others felt the same.

Today we are primarily an enclosure manufacturer as well as passion project breeders. We plan to expand our manufacturing to more than just cages, & bring in a larger variety of species to start working with. Our main focus is to give professional breeders & hobbyist a quality product that will enhance their keeping practices. We also want to provide those same customers with animals that will push their breeding projects to the next level.

Currently we both work full time jobs, maintain a large garden, & try to find a little bit of free time on top of everything you see here on our page.

Today we had our plastic delivered! It has been a long process, but we are making progress! Still some work to be done before we have a finished product, but it's getting closer.

We want to thank everyone that has stuck by us and been patient as we try to figure this out. This is just the beginning of what's to come, and we hope you guys stick around!

Once we get some enclosures done we will provide more info on them!

We have been keeping Cresteds for 4 years & have been fortunate enough to never experience a tail drop here at Blackout!

Don’t ask us how considering we’ve moved to Texas & back with all of our geckos - we’re probably jinxing ourselves writing this post!

We are getting closer and closer to getting a prototype enclosure done! We have been learning as much as we can about our machine, and this was a first test run to see if everything was working correctly. As you can see it works as it should!

It has been a long process to get here, but we're closer now than we have ever been to getting our products to you! We want to say thank you for sticking around for what seems like forever while we figure this beast out. Next thing is to do some tests with an endmill and scrap plastic, and then we will be ready for production! 🦎🦎🦎

We picked up some more isopods to add to our collection! These are both P. scaber but the first photo is the Lava morph and the other one is Orange Koi.

This guy is now ready for a new gecko room!
He has some great attributes as either a breeder or a pet. He would be ready for the 2022 season if that's what you're looking for. We couldn't get him to fully fire up, but he darkens to a nice chocolate brown. He has both black and red dalmatian spots, and beautiful blushing.

This is our new logo done by .design on Instagram. We decided to keep it simple but super clean. Our old logo included a Crested gecko, but we decided to remove it as we are more than just Cresteds. Jake does some great work and a long time friend of ours, so make sure to go check him out to see what he is capable of.

CAGE UPDATE!!!

We got our CNC in, and got the table built. The CNC we went with has a 30" X 30" work space, so we built a 48" X 72" table. Our next step is to get the CNC assembled, and start figuring out how it all works.

ENCLOSURE UPDATE!!!!
I am sure some of you have been wondering what the "Cages" portion of our name is about. Well after a year of searching for the best CNC router & plastic suppliers, we are happy to announce that we have purchased our CNC. Over the next few months, we will be learning how to operate the CNC, build our enclosures to the highest standard, and eventually start selling them to you!

We will announce the first few enclosure sizes after we have perfected our abilities on the CNC, have some inventory built up, and can confirm that they are ready for market.

This is a huge step for us as a business, and we hope that you guys are ready for enclosures with professional breeders and hobbyists in mind!
