Basset Hound Breeder Hello, my name is Coleen and I have been breeding dogs for over 30 years. They make great family pets. They are to noisy for that.

I have had many different types of animals in my life from horses, reptiles, frogs, fish, turtles, cats, dogs, chinchillas, birds, a ground hog and the list goes on. My mother ran a pet shop when I was young and both my parents bred German Shepherds, Pomeranians, and Chihuahuas. I was brought up with the respect for all animals with the love n understanding as well as the great responsibility are

to any pet. They are a lifetime commitment and that fact should not be taken on lightly before getting one. The average life span for any large breed dog is approximately 10 to 12 years. Basset Hounds are great dogs for the laid back folks that want a easy going short haired companion. As pups they are like every puppy, they nibble, chew, want all your attention and are willing to give you all theirs. The drawback to owning a Basset Hound is they do shed quite a bit, have a deep bark when they are excited and can be difficult to housebreak ( but with lots of patients, it can be done!) They are extremely loving, calm and undemanding as adults enjoy short walks, car trips, laying in your lap. I would NEVER recommend a Basset Hound for folks living in an apartment.
