Did you see an injured stray or a stray suffering abuse? Your heart is hurting cause you want to help but can’t? That’s understandable, trapping, rescuing is an extremely financially and physically exhausting endeavour. But here’s the good news! You can help! By educating. When we normalise responsible dog ownership, you are creating a better future for dogs.
Let’s start with Advocating Neutering. The excuses I’ve heard are
(1) As shown in this post pic, people assume that breeding their own dog will give them the same dog they lost. This is a wrong and unhealthy assumption. You will have better chances finding similarly behaved dogs in shelters than breeding yourself. Which btw can lead to a lot of behaviour and health issues cause it takes a lot of research and experience to do it successfully.
(2) Neutering is expensive - if you can afford to buy a dog which is at least above RM 1k , neutering generally only costs between 300-700 depending on your dog size, the vet and how long you need to board them. It’s cheaper if you can settle post neutering care yourself. But the truth is neutering is one of the lowest cost medical procedure in comparison to your dogs medical needs as they age.
(3) Big breeds are advise to neuter later. Ok fine, that’s understandable but do your very best to ensure your home and walk is fortified so your dog isn’t running loose impregnating or getting impregnated. If you purchased your dog, find out the full grown size of their parents, if you don’t know pls don’t buy from that seller, it’s probably a mill and that’s horrible.
I’m not a vet but from what I know Neutering is advised for male and female dogs between 6 months to 1 year old. The older they are the more risks but if you have big breeds like Great Danes or labs, etc the rules are a little different but remember to make sure your dogs are not off leash and have no means to escape you while remaining “intact”
