Twister and I finished off our summer runs for the season this past weekend. Overall I am beyond blessed to have had such a successful summer on my old man !
Twister added around $1,500 to his LTE this summer and got me darn close to winning a saddle and buckle. Every run on you has been a learning curve, thank you for the ride Twist 🤍

This mare is so fun to ride and will definitely teach you to keep a deep seat with a calm body. We made some runs this weekend that were not the prettiest but we are getting there! It’s always one step at a time. I’m happy to say Daisy and I click pretty well and I am excited to see what Daisy and her owner, Natasha, will accomplish in the future!
Another great weekend of barrel racing! We had some rider errors and I did not pocket him around the barrels how I wanted to but he still pulled through and got me some pocket change!
Twister is on Dac supplements and Blue Bonnet feed! For 18 years old he is running amazing and has given me one heck of a summer run🤍
Checking cows is not Twisters favorite thing to do but I made him do it anyways !😂 It’s so good for a horses mind to get out of the arena and do a different job every once in a while. It makes a world of difference in how your horses wanna work for you in the long run.

This 3 yo had her first outing with screaming kids, ponies running everywhere, and a lot of Chaos! I’m very blessed to have such a calm youngster on my trailer. This little girl, Alexis, wanted to sit on her and I don’t trust many young horses to let kids sit on but Rona is a keeper! For her only being started this spring with maybe around 90 days in total on her she is doing great!!

A little while back when it wasn’t so wet out and constantly raining we went on a nice ride to Rockton! It was a great change of pace to get Daisy out there with a group of other riders and to let her have some time out of the arena. For hotter horses or horses that are more on the muscle you need to give them a bit of a mental break sometimes! Just like people they get frazzled and burned out. It sure was nice to soak up some sunshine and get some more miles rode on this mare !🤍

This 3yo sure is coming along! Rona is such a smooth mover and I am excited for her future! We are getting our ground work wrapped up and she is gonna start her career on the barrel pattern here shortly 🙌🏼

Barrels with a Bang sure didn’t disappoint! Twister ran his fasted time in this arena today with 17.8 and that includes a trip around the 1st barrel. Might not have been our prettiest run but we are getting there 🙌🏼 Very blessed to be able to send this horse down the alley and to have him feeling good enough to be consistent !

I am blessed with how hard Twister tried for me🤍
The ground was sticky and deep so Twister got very stuck in his pockets but somehow he still pulled through and got me a little money ! We were way off of our normal time but I was still happy with how he worked for me. Very thankful to have the lord watching over me in every run and keeping my horses and I safe 🤍

Carat got some more desensitization done! She really is taking everything in stride! I prefer to use an old lunge line and tie bags ( old feed sacks) on the ends and get the horses used to the noises/feel. No one likes a horse spooking out from under them because of some plastic on the ground. So here is a great start to Carats future and making her a decent citizen!

What do you think about during expos on your horse?
Do you think about where their shoulders and hips are? About pushing them past a point so they can turn easier on their hind end? Or maybe you think about having them soft and making sure they are riding between your legs and your hands are just their to guide them?
No matter what your thought process is or how you prepare your horse try to think positive! Go into a run saying “why not me”. Make the most out of the ground, the competition, and your horses abilities!

She is a big mover so I put logs down so she would have to work on controlling her body. Big things are coming her way 💪🏼

In the horse industry people either freak out over this term or it doesn’t phase them. Let’s be honest, most horses who are competing should be considered athletes. Athletes take a lot of wear and tear to their bodies. Horses are expected to do a lot like sit and turn on a dime, or slide 20 feet and even spin a hole in the ground not to mention dragging steers and the many hours in the practice pen. These horses who work and give you their all should be treated to the best of your abilities as their owner. Maintence should not be a scary term. Horses get injected everyday by veterinarians, they get teeth floated, special shoes, chiropractor appointments and so much more. Do not let the term maintence scare you away from a horse who is going to take care of you, it just means you have pay attention and work a little harder to be able to take care of them.
Here is twister getting his hocks injected at Riverdale Vet clinic by Clay Dean who is my primary vet. Here’s to more barrel races and twister being able to compete to his best ability!
Twister worked amazing this past Friday night! Super proud of my old man. There may not have been a ton of entries but the arena record here is a 17.1 and we were an 18.3. A little over a second difference and enough to get us 2nd in the 1D🤍

I will never forget being told that if you cannot ride a horse by your legs then you shouldn’t be riding at all. Here is a video from today’s ride as I had Twister bridle-less moving him off my leg pressure. It is so important to keep your horses soft and to test how soft they are. Horses don’t always need to be soft in the mouth, they need to be able to work off a leg as well. A great way to work on your horses body softness is to go in an arena, have someone close by or watching, take the reins away and work your horse ONLY using your legs. A soft horse is a good horse.

Koozie is an 8yo grade sorrel gelding. He is all of 16hh and a big boy. He rides off fine, neck reins, and moves off legs. He is straight legged and has no cosmetic scars or marks. Koozie has been hauled to a few barrel jackpots and trail rode all over. Previous owner raced him at Winona often and he also went to Sherri Cervis youth barrel races. He’s UTD on all vaccines/coggins and teeth were floated in April 2024.
Koozie needs more ground work. He can be pushy and has to have a dominant person who will not let him get away with anything. When putting leg boots on, brushing, or picking up his hind legs he WILL kick out. This horse is not for little kids or beginners!! He needs someone who has the time to work out his issues. Once you are on him he rides off just fine but he needs to go back to the basics. Koozie does not like loading in the trailer alone and will back up. He has had a few sessions with Angie Young on trailer loading and he did fine for her.
Owner is selling because she has little kids and does not have the time to work on his issues.

This old man and I have not ran poles in about 4 years. I got a little too hansy on the second weave through and we tipped one pole but overall very happy with this boy 🤍
Twist has a summer full of pole bending ahead of him and I am excited to see how we do! With that said I keep him up on a daily feed regime of Purina Grain, Dac Supplements and Alfalfa Cubes to keep his muscle mass up and to support his bodily functions!

The good :
You can ride scooby all day on the trails or do outside work! He will long trot miles for you and prefers to be out on the trail. He will load into the trailer good and is the perfect size (14hh) ! Scooby has good ground work, he will lunge great and can be collected up while lunging! I have thrown ropes off him and drug a sled, he did great with both. I have ponied horses off him and you can pony him as well. He will stand tied all day saddled or not and will not dig a hole to china.
The bad:
Scooby is not for a beginner he will test you. He is not a fan of arena work but you can get him to do things in there. Will pick his leads up but you have to peddle him. He needs more arena work as in leads, backing up, being soft, collecting.
Is UTD on coggins/vaccines
