Some learnings for our Pom lovers😎

The Pomeranian is known as the "ball of fluff". This is because this breed has a truly amazing and unique double coat of fur, that when correctly groomed and kept free of tangles, forms a wonderful puff of fur surrounding the dog and giving it its unique appearance.
Somewhere along the line, someone decided that due to the large amount of fur on the Pomeranian that it would be a good idea to give the dog a shave... And this, unfortunately has caught on with some owners. These cuts have even been given names (unofficial names) with the Pomeranian Lion Cut being one of the most popular.
Pomeranians have coats that can be damaged through clipping and shaving. When the hair is groomed too short, the hair may grow back fuzzy with a wiry texture. Another problem is that the coat protects Pomeranians from both the heat and cold. If the coat is shaven too short during the hot weather, it can actually make it harder for the dog to stay cool.
In some cases, shaving a dog too short can lead to post clipping alopecia, which is when the hair follicles become damaged and the hair doesn't grow back for six to 12 months. This can seem like an eternity when your pet is walking around bald. This usually happens when pets are shaven too closely for surgery, but it can also be the result of improper grooming.
Before you choose to give your Pomeranian a lion-cut, remember that it may end badly. We are eye witnesses to Pomeranians that have been shaved down almost to the skin and then have behavioral issues. The Pom's fur is its coat...It can be a source of comfort for many Poms...When this is taken away it can be akin to a baby having their blanket taken away. The dog can become anxious, nervous and/or uncomfortable.

Fellow Pom lovers, we have been experiencing so much love and interest for Pom babies we just wish we could place a fluff of energy in every house immediately. Unfortunately Pomeranians being a toy breed means they produce small litters, sometimes even just one puppy. This is why we take time to have enough puppies for everyone. But the good news is that one of our pedigree females will be ready to start on our breeding programme in 2023 so we'll see a bit more availability of puppies.
