Seeing lots of young birds! Ewwweee!!! I'm excited!
Our homing pigeons have been patiently acclimating to their new environment for the past several weeks. Yesterday we let them fly the coop (literally). They're surprisingly entertaining to watch. The boneyard crew has also taken notice...
Happy International Dog Day! Who are you celebrating with?
24 days and counting...
Sky (DrummerXBella) looking good on the training grounds.
Weekend scouting trip with the girls.
Sky (BellaXDrummer). Canadian wildfires turned the Minnesota skies a hazy gray for Sky's morning training session.
Margo getting in some introductory bird work. She's got a heck of a nose.
Snuck in a little training session this morning before the heat and humidity started to climb. With the drought conditions, the foliage isn't near as thick. No grouse finds, but you're never the only predator in the woods.
Willie may be small in stature, but he's big in charm and drive! He'll go home in August with a few months of training under his belt.

Came across a brood of ruffies while running dogs today. Good training opportunity and a promising sign for fall numbers!
Whatever your plans are for the 4th, stay safe, stay happy, and do something you love!
Bella's mini me, the last of the litter and by far the sweetest ❤
It goes without saying, but we'll say it anyway, that frequent bird exposure builds better bird dogs.
We had picture perfect weather Saturday for the last Minnesota Grouse Dog Association summer field trial. Congratulations to Ryan, Greg, and AJ on their Shooting Dog placements, and to Eric, Kyle, and Paul on their Derby placements. We enjoyed seeing some fine bird work and watching the next generation of dog trialers practice their skills. See you in the fall!
At just over 9 weeks old, these pups are full of drive. Both the orange belton female and tri-color male are available. With champion bloodlines, they're sure to make great hunting and trialing dogs, and perfect home companions. We're located in Brainerd, MN. PM with any questions. Seriously inquiries only please.
We love getting updates from our new puppy owners! So far everyone is happy, healthy, and adjusting well. Thanks for sharing!
Luna is settling in to the farm life just fine. She seems to have captured the hearts of her new family. The jury is still out on whether the chickens approve 😉
What a difference a month can make! Four weeks ago our friends were here to check in on their little girl. Today they picked Luna up to deliver her to her new home in Wisconsin. A surprise for Anna's parents!! Is there any sweeter gift? ❤
This heat wave has us dreaming about fall! Ruffed grouse opener is only 113 days away!!
It's a fact (at least in our world), that little boys and little girls need little puppies.
This little girl made a trip all the way to Michigan to join her new family. I think it's safe to say she'll be well loved ❤
Several of the puppies left for their new homes today. It's a bittersweet moment. We'll certainly miss them, but are happy to see the joy they bring their new families. Good luck little ones!!
Puppy tips for staying cool on a sultry Saturday afternoon:
Step 1. Find a hole.
Step 2. Lay in hole.
A nice shady spot will also do 🌞
Where has the last 8 weeks gone?!
https://www.fieldandstream.com/sponsored-post/prevent-heat-stress-exhaustion-stroke-in-your-dogs. A timely article as it's forecasted to hit 90 degrees this week in the Brainerd lakes area.
Protect dogs at greatest risk of heat exhaustion, heat stress, and heat stroke with proper nutrition, hydration, and exercise so you can safely enjoy summer activities and preseason training.
Freshly bathed, brushed, fluffed and trimmed. I give it 5 minutes before someone finds a mud puddle!
We still have one playful little girl (orange belton) and one sweet little boy (tri-color) available. Ready to go home as early as next weekend. PM with any questions.
Our spring field trial season is almost at an end. This year, we didn't attend as many trials as we would have liked, but enjoyed those events - both the familiar and the new - that we did attend. Jordan traveled with Gypsy and Dos to Ellendale ND to compete in a National Shoot to Retrieve Association (NSTRA) field trial as a member of the Mid-North Region. Gypsy is no stranger to NSTRA trials and did well, earning a second place finish on Day 1 of the event. Dos is new to the game, and while he didn't place this go-around, he showed real promise and has the makings to be a real competitor with a little more training and practice. Closer to home, Jordan entered Ryder and Lily in their first Minnesota Grouse Dog Association field trials in Mora, MN. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and performed exceedingly well for first-timers. Ryder took a first place in the Open Shooting Trial (pictured below), and Lily took a first place in the Open Derby Trial. Ryder's performance earned him a chance to compete in the fall field trial series this September/October. Another "first," Jordan handled four dogs (not owned by Ruffed Country Kennels) in an American Kennel Club (AKC) licensed hunt test in Little Falls, MN. He earned a Master qualifying score for three of the four dogs, qualifying twice with one dog. Field trials are a fun way for any bird dog owner to hone his or her dog's pointing, retrieving, and obedience skills, and they're something we look forward to each year. They provide an opportunity to interact with other bird dog enthusiasts and enjoy some friendly competition during the hunting off season. While we wait for the fall trial and hunting seasons, the training continues!

TBT. Bella's first litter (whelped March 2019). We've been fortunate to watch this litter develop into some fine bird dogs.
More yard exploration. They're an adventurous bunch!
Today's cool temps provided a perfect opportunity for some endurance training. Roading is an excellent way to build stamina and keep dogs fit during the off season. And the dogs love it! Plus, it's a pretty neat way to repurpose an old golf cart.
The puppies met the largest member of the pack today. He was a good sport about it, despite their repeated attempts to suckle 😆
A little bird work on a fine Friday morning.
Exploring the yard...
Two of these little ankle biters (1 male & 1 female, not necessarily those pictured below) are still looking for their forever homes! Over the next few weeks, the new owners on our waiting list will be stopping by to make their selections. Pups were whelped on April 13th and will be ready to go home by June 8th. Just in time for Father's Day! Should make great hunting partners and home companions. We're based out of Brainerd, MN. PM with any questions.
Took advantage of a break in the rain (I see you, sun!) for a walk and round of bumper retrieving.
There's always one...😆
The best part about bath time? A warm towel at the end.
