Just a dog.

From time to time people tell me “chill out, it’s just a dog” or “it’s a lot of money just for a dog.” They don't understand the distance traveled, the time invested, or the costs incurred by "just a dog".
Some of my proudest moments have occurred with “just a dog.”

Many hours have passed being my only company "just a dog", but not for one moment did I feel despised. Some of my saddest moments have been because of “just a dog,” and on those gray days, the gentle touch of “just a Dog” gave me comfort and the reason to get through the day.

If you also think “it’s just a dog”, then you’ll probably understand phrases like “just a friend”, “just a sunrise” or “just a promise.” “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

For "just a dog" I will get up early, take long walks and look forward to the future. So for me and people like me, it’s not “just a dog,” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the memories of the past, and the absolute joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out the good in me and takes my thoughts away from myself and daily worries.

I hope one day they can understand that it’s not “just a dog”, but the one that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.” So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog”, just smile because they “just don’t get it”.

Did you know it is polite doggy etiquette to put your dog on a leash if you are approaching another on leash dog. There are many reasons for dogs to be on leash and an off-leash dog running over to them can often be quite worrying for dog and owner alike!

Dogs could be on-leash for many reasons; maybe they are nervous, old, recovering from an injury or surgery, fearful of dogs, people, or anything else! Some dogs could be recent rescues, in training, partially sighted or completely blind. And of course, some dogs simply do not enjoy the company of others.

If you see a dog on leash approaching, it is important to recall your dog and secure them. Once you have control of your dog, maybe then ask if they can meet.

The leash simply creates control in any situation allowing owners, and dogs alike, to relax.
If your dog's recall is still a little hit and miss, long lines are a valuable tool whilst you work on it. We would always suggest dogs remain on-leash until their re-call is 100% for their own safety and that of other dogs around them.

And always remember, if you are approaching a reactive dog, give them space, it is likely both doggy and owner are working very hard to keep calm and manage the situation the best they can!

Italian diver Enzo Maiorca, while diving in the sea of Syracuse, felt something hit him in the back. He turned around and saw a dolphin.

He understood that he was not playing, but expressing something.
The dolphin dived down and Enzo followed him.

At a depth of 12 meters, caught in a net, was another dolphin.
After managing to free him and his wife, when the two dolphins surfaced, they emitted an almost human cry (this is how Maiorca described it). Dolphins can be held underwater for up to 10 minutes and then drown. The captive dolphin was a female about to give birth.

The male surrounded her and stood in front of Enzo and touched his cheek (like a kiss), a gesture of gratitude. Enzo ended his speech with the words:

"Until man learns to respect and communicate with the animal world, he will never be able to know his true role on this earth."
