#ForeverHomeFriday The Love story of Chopper and Camila
Who remembers Camila? She was with us for quite a while looking for her forever home. She came to us and had three babies, two of which have also found their forever homes. Camila waited patiently for bun parents who would love her, and not only did she find loving parents, but a husbun too!
Here is what her new dad says, "After adopting Chopper when a friend found him abandoned outside, we wanted to find a friend to keep him company while we were at work. We brought Chopper to a speed dating event [with] Houston Rabbit Resource where we met Camilla. They seemed to do well together so we brought her home for a sleepover. The bonding process was long and difficult as both of them were very stubborn and refused to give in to one another! HRR really supported us by giving us a lot of useful advice. After 7 weeks of daily bonding sessions, Nere from HRR took both of them into her home for three full days of supervised bonding in a new neutral environment.
Ever since then, Chopper and Camilla are now a very loving couple who love to cuddle and do everything together. Chopper is long-haired and very messy; Camilla cleans and grooms him very patiently. In return, Chopper teaches Camila how to beg for treats from mom and dad."
Camila we are so glad you have found your happily ever after. Congratulations in finding each other, and we hope you all have many adventures together.
This year, we've fixed 53 at our spay/neuter clinics— and that's not even counting the buns fixed at separate appointments! All possible thanks to donations like yours helping cover the cost of surgeries. Today, on Giving Tuesday, our goal is to ensure 100 more buns receive the essential care they deserve. Let's hop together toward making this goal a reality! 🐰💖 #GivingTuesday #HOPerationFixABun #hopto100

This Friday we have a special bun! Last time we saw Roy and now we have an update about Siegfried aka Siggy! Siggy went on sleepover after a speed date with Rabbity and has now found his forever family with his partner at his side 🥰🥰
His new mom says, "Prior to adopting Siegfried (Siggy) our family consisted of two bunn buds, Rabbity and Sammie. Unfortunately Sammie passed away and Rabbity was feeling the effects of losing his companion. We were inspired to adopt because we felt that it was important to provide Rabbity with the companionship he was looking for and to also provide a foster bunny with another opportunity for a forever home. When we first met Siggy, he and Rabbity instantly showed an interest in bonding and have been best buds since. I encourage anyone who is interested in adding a bunny as part of your family to first visit with a rabbit rescue. Houston Rabbit Resource provided us with guidance and a seamless adoption process. Knowing that our interest and participation in adoption helped Siggy by giving him the family he and every bunn deserves. Siggy is a sweet boy who loves to lounge around. He loves to munch on hay and his favorite snacks are strawberries and the occasion rose petals. He loves to be groomed by his bunn bud Rabbity. Siggy has fulfilled Rabbity’s need for companionship and both buds love to roam around the house together and nap! We love him so much, we feel privileged to have provided this little guy with a home full of love for the rest of his life."
Congratulations to Siggy and Rabbity for finding each other and we hope they have a long happy life🥰🥰🥰
Every single one of these buns has gone from living in the streets, terrible conditions, and other bad circumstances to being adopted and into a loving home.
The only way we can save buns like them is through fostering. We are currently have numerous buns in need of placement and keep getting stray and surrender requests every day.
If you have space in your home to take in a bun or two please consider fostering. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.

Yesterday, we were informed about a bun who required immediate medical care. One of our fosters picked her up and rushed her to ABC Animal & Bird Clinic. When she was picked up she looked to be in really bad shape, but Dr. Rossi looked her over and ran some tests and told us there was hope. She was sent home with medicine and strict instructions for her care, so we transferred her to an experienced medical foster.
She is having trouble keeping her temperature up and wasn't eating well, so she is currently under 24hr watch by her foster home. Her foster mom has the night shift and her dad has the day shift. We needed a name for the bun, so we asked the wonderful person who helped us with her rescue.
We would like everyone to meet Flor which is Spanish for Flower. Her foster mom says she is sassy and a fighter, so we are going to help her fight. She has a long road ahead of her, but we will make sure she is not alone.
When we fundraise, all proceeds go towards spay/neuter, microchips, vaccines, and medical emergencies like Flor. Without donors, we wouldn't have been able to help her. Without foster homes, we wouldn't have a place for her to recover. Her vet bill was $600, and we expect there to be more as she continues on her road to recover. Please consider donating or participating in our auction to help bunnies like Flor flourish. If you have space in your home to foster, please consider applying. Our foster coordinator will help place a bun that matches your experience.

#SundayBunday Debbie Buninsky is on the search for her forever home. She is a well behaved bun who knows how to use her litter box, likes to nap in her carrier, and has learned "if I fits I sits" from her cat foster siblings. Her foster mom adores her and says Debbie will ask for pets for hours. Debbie doesn't like being picked up and will karate chop anyone who tries. She honks when she hears it's dinner time and Debbie will come running when her foster mom calls her.
Due to her friendly nature we think we should make a great bonding candidate but would also do well as a solo spoiled bun.

[UPDATE]Remember Butch Cassidy? He was rescued in January after he and his wife had been shot at with bbs. Unfortunately, she passed away from her injuries, leaving four little babies who we also have in foster care.
Butch has now been living in luxury accommodations, getting all the love and care he deserves. However, an uninvited guest from the wild west decided to tag along. This guest was only just recently discovered, but we quickly evicted him with the help of Dr. Rossi and the team at ABC Animal and Bird Clinic
If you’re squeamish, you may not want to see the video and photo of the unwanted guest. For some of us, it’s quite fascinating, albeit a bit gross. Butch is feeling much better and never wants to share his newfound luxury with any hitchhikers ever again!

Welcome to the Wild West! Unfortunately, it’s not as romantic as the movies make it out to be. In Houston, the Wild West means domestic rabbits are dumped to fend for themselves. And if that isn’t bad enough, they have to worry about predators like hawks, eagles, snakes, coyotes, foxes, dogs, cats, and humans. Like the humans who shot bbs at our newest intakes. 😡
Meet Butch Cassidy, and his offspring - the Sundance Kid, Calamity Jane, Annie Oakley, and Bonnie Parker.
Butch and his female partner were living outside and were shot at. The mom was captured and taken to a vet. She gave birth to the 4 babies a few days later. She was able to nurse them until they were about 12 days old before succumbing to the injuries she sustained from being shot.
Butch was finally caught. X-rays show no signs of bbs in him now, but he does have some soft tissue injuries in his legs and he is in pain. He is receiving pain meds and antibiotics and extra tender care.
The babies are just over 4 weeks old now.
In the last month we have taken in 20 rabbits to our system and had surrender requests for almost two dozen more. Many of these have required medical attention and all must be spayed and neutered. This week’s vet bills alone are over $1000.
We need help more than ever. We need foster homes, adopters, and donations to cover all of the supplies and medical bills we are incurring. If you can help in any way at all, please reach out to us today! Bunnies are out there suffering. We want to help as much as we can.

When Avana came to us after being dumped by her previous family. She had been living out in their patio and once they got bored with her they threw her outside. She had a Cuterebra in her neck, and her nose had a abcess on her nose. Now she's living her best life as the Queen bun she is ruling over their home and demanding pets when she can. Donations from the public allow us to take in buns like Avana, get them in to see a vet ASAP, then spayed, and microchipped before finding her forever family.

#ThrowbackThursday
Back in June, we held a Bunny Basics/Bunny 101 class for HSPCA Volunteers and Staff. We had so many wonderful people come learn about what makes buns the best pals. We even had a previously adopted HSPCA bunny demonstrate for us how she uses her litter box and how she likes to flop!
HRR has been partnering with HSPCA to help socialize their buns and help people learn about their care. HSPCA has been bunderful, and we hope to be back for another session again soon! We will also look forward to working with more shelters who want to learn about these bunderful beings.

#SundayBunday
Sasha, the bunny found in the UH parking garage, is doing very well (check out last Sunday's post). Unfortunately, only one of her seven babies survived, and the remaining baby is very small. She is growing well now, but she seems to have a problem with her back legs. She will be seeing a specialist next week for x-rays and a full examination.
She is tiny, but she is also a feisty fighter!
We were only able to take Sasha and her babies in because we had a bunderful humans offer them a place to stay. In the last few days, we’ve been asked to take in 8 bunnies, but without foster homes, we can’t help.
We want to help as much as we can, but we are currently a foster-based rescue and if a bunny comes in we need to have a place for them to go. We will eventually open a physical shelter, but until then, we heavily rely on a foster network. If you can foster a bunny, we can provide all the needed supplies and teach you everything you need to know about these amazing creatures who bring so much love and hoppiness to life!

This Sunday Bunday is an update on Sasha the bun who was abandoned in one of the UH parking garages. We named her Sasha after the UH mascot, and according to her loving foster mom, Sasha is a sweet bun who likes her pets. She sent us a video of her doing zoomies in the safety of her home. Foster homes save lives, and Sasha is proof of it. She will be looking for her forever home once she has been spayed, so keep an eye out for her.
If you're interested in making a difference in a bunny's life, please consider fostering we can help with supplies:

[UH Bunny UPDATE]
A few days before September, we were tagged in a post about a bunny in the U of H parking garage. A few wonderful people tried to catch her, and we were working out a plan to get her when a good samaritan was able to catch her and let us know. The night he rescued her, she gave birth to 7 babies!
Unfortunately, she was so malnourished she could not produce any milk, no matter how much we tried. She is much too young to be a mom as well, at only about 5-6 months old. And she was severely stressed.
Our baby bunny expert took them and worked so hard, but sadly, 5 of the babies did not survive. We are cautiously optimistic about the remaining two. They are being bottle-fed and are growing.
We are overfull and had not intended to take in more bunnies at this time, but we couldn’t turn her away. But we are now in desperate need for a foster home for the mom asap as the rescuer can’t keep her much longer.
We named her Sasha after the UH mascot! She is a beautiful and friendly bunny who comes running for pets. She is gaining weight and looking healthier. If anyone would be interested in fostering her, please message us as soon as possible. We can provide some supplies as well.

Molly was found wandering around a junkyard near a freeway when she was picked up and rescued by a wonderful human.
Now Molly is the queen of her home and has even started looking for a special somebun😉 to share her wonderful life with.
"Molly is a very curious bunny that tries to escape her room whenever she can and doesn’t think twice about stealing your banana. When she’s not busy using our sofa as a racetrack, or chewing up homework she can be found lounging around like she owns the place. Now that she has found her forever home she has begun dating and hopes to share news of a new mate soon!"
Congrats to Molly and her family for finding each other. May the years be filled with binkies, zoomies, and tons of banana thieving.
