Babies Nick and Cam after a long day of running their entire foster home. Making sure all treats are found, all cords are protected, and all baseboards are covered 👏 being a baby bunny sure is hard 😖😎
These two are not yet available for adoption until they are fixed and their trouble berries are gone :)
We're heartbroken to share some sad news. Aurora, the baby bunny, was taken to the hospital for bloating and diarrhea, likely caused by coccidia, but despite all efforts, she has sadly passed away. Her brother, Zane, is still holding on, and we’re doing everything we can to give him a fighting chance. These little ones should have never been separated from their mother so young. Zane continues to fight every day, and we’re right there with him. Here he is after his feeding. 💙
Be on the lookout 👀 for possible cottontail rabbit 🐰 nests in your backyard.
They often go unnoticed since the babies are only in the ground maybe 3 to 5 inches down then covered with loose grass, weeds, fur that creates a sort of topper to keep them covered and warm.
Nosy dogs or cats can put them at risk. 🫣😓
Mom will not stay with the nest. In fact she will run away to try and lure any predators that might be in the area.
She only comes to feed the babies once or twice a day and late at night usually when you aren’t witnessing it.
If you find babies, you can set up something like this to barricade the area for the next month or two while the babies are growing up.
When they’re old enough to leave the nest Mom will gather them up and lead them away to safer areas. But the stage when they explore the area is a very dangerous time for them too.
Please reach out to us at Houston Rabbit Resource about Wild Cottontails in Texas if you have any questions.

Moe’s story is one of resilience, love, and finding the perfect forever home. This special girl had a rough start—due to a painful condition, she had to have both of her eyes removed. But if you think that slowed her down, think again! Moe quickly proved that she didn’t need sight to live life to the fullest. 💪🐰
During her recovery, Moe’s sweet nature and unstoppable spirit captured the heart of our founder. She was supposed to be a temporary foster, but sometimes, fate has other plans. It didn’t take long before our founder knew that Moe was already home. ❤️
Now, Moe spends her days being doted on, zooming around with confidence, and enjoying every bit of love that comes her way. She’s a shining example of how incredibly adaptable bunnies can be—and how love sees with the heart, not just the eyes. 💖
Cheers to Moe and her forever family! 🥰🏡✨
Moe’s journey with Houston Rabbit Resource began in December 2022 when she was surrendered to a shelter by her previous owners. After noticing her bulging eyes, we conducted extensive diagnostics and discovered she had glaucoma. Despite managing her condition with the help of our amazing veterinary team for eight months, Moe’s eye pressure continued to rise, causing her significant pain.
Ultimately, we made the difficult but compassionate decision to remove both of Moe’s eyes to alleviate her suffering. The surgery, performed last Wednesday by the incredible Dr. Morales at Cypress Lakes Animal Hospital, was a success. Just a few days later, Moe is already back to eating well and seems to have found a renewed zest for life. Her resilience and unstoppable spirit continue to inspire us all.
Moe’s medical care, including her surgery, came with a $956 veterinary bill. With Giving Tuesday just around the corner, now is the perfect time to make a difference. Your generosity can help us cover Moe’s medical expenses and ensure we’re ready to provide lifesaving care for more bunnies in need. Every donation, big or small, brings hope to rescue bunnies like Moe. Thank you for being part of their journey!

#ForeverHomeFriday The Love story of Chopper and Camila
Who remembers Camila? She was with us for quite a while looking for her forever home. She came to us and had three babies, two of which have also found their forever homes. Camila waited patiently for bun parents who would love her, and not only did she find loving parents, but a husbun too!
Here is what her new dad says, "After adopting Chopper when a friend found him abandoned outside, we wanted to find a friend to keep him company while we were at work. We brought Chopper to a speed dating event [with] Houston Rabbit Resource where we met Camilla. They seemed to do well together so we brought her home for a sleepover. The bonding process was long and difficult as both of them were very stubborn and refused to give in to one another! HRR really supported us by giving us a lot of useful advice. After 7 weeks of daily bonding sessions, Nere from HRR took both of them into her home for three full days of supervised bonding in a new neutral environment.
Ever since then, Chopper and Camilla are now a very loving couple who love to cuddle and do everything together. Chopper is long-haired and very messy; Camilla cleans and grooms him very patiently. In return, Chopper teaches Camila how to beg for treats from mom and dad."
Camila we are so glad you have found your happily ever after. Congratulations in finding each other, and we hope you all have many adventures together.
