Rusty is growing up 🥰

We started playing around with a double bridle. Slowly introducing two bits so he can get used to that feeling.
We did lots of lateral work at the walk, getting his body loose and supple. Added in some trot circles and serpentines. Ending with minimal canter, one circle each direction. It was a quick ride but effective. He did what I asked and didn’t seem to mind all the extra metal in his mouth.
Beyond proud of my little rock star 🤩🤩

Morning workout for Rusty! Working on canter half pass to counter canter.

This is a tough exercise for him, he’s getting the hang of holding the counter canter and strengthening his hind end.

He tries to outsmart me by either swapping leads or breaking to the trot to try to change 😅 I gotta stay on top of it, he’s a sneaky one!

Ms. Elle’s first official ride! She’s been in training with me for a month now and has made good progress so far. Our first ride was easy and simple, figuring out what leg pressure means. So excited to see her progress even more ☺️

Rusty is lookin’ good in his new bridle 😍

I’ve been searching for close to a year for a new ergonomic bridle for Rusty. I wasn’t happy with the quality of the PS of Sweden bridle 🙃 and didn’t want to spend more money on a brand new one. Trying to find a brown cob size ergonomic bridle for a good price was like trying to find a needle in a hay stack!

I saw this Schockemohle bridle at Aiken Tack Exchange and just couldn’t pass it up! I’m so happy with how it fits Rusty’s horse/cob head and the quality of the bridle. We’re ready for show season! 🥇

Very excited to have this young Friesian in for training 🙌🏻
Ellie is 4 and has had a pretty inconsistent start to her education. She was given a very solid foundation but sadly was left to sit for a while due to owner health issues. The goal is to get her back on the right track!

Rusty has been working hard! 🙌🏻 We had to go back to basics for a little while. We worked on smooth transitions, keeping his hind legs engaged, lifting through his shoulders, and bending through his rib cage without throwing his haunches out.

Working on basics earlier this week allowed me to be able to school some walk pirouettes, trot and canter half passes, and counter canter today. Which I didn’t get any video of 🤦🏼‍♀️
Rusty enjoys the more difficult movements but without basics he does not do them properly

Sandy Hotz answers this reader question, briefly explaining how überstreichen should be ridden, the purpose of the movement and when to use it.

Rusty and I had a great lesson with Katie this afternoon. For being cold, windy, and off property he was quite lazy! 🙃 Not typical for a young horse!

I’m grateful he doesn’t display airs above the ground in situations like today 🙏🏻 but this mean I have to work harder to get those little hind legs of his moving!

He sure is a fancy little quarter horse 🥰

Rusty’s round from today! It wasn’t as solid as other rounds at other shows but we went clear! We were both safe and had fun! That’s all I can ask of my little red headed jumping machine 🥰

Going to be putting in lots of dressage/flat work to get the inconsistencies in between the fences worked out. Next up… Stable View

I’ve got many young students about to venture into the world of horse showing and compete in their very first show!! When they ask about horse showing I always tell them #1 it should be fun and educational! And #2 it’s never about the ribbon you get or the place you get.

I didn’t get my first blue ribbon until I was a sophomore in college…I’d been showing for 4-5 years by that time always coming in 2nd or lower. That only made me ride and push myself harder, learn more, and keep trying. It made that first blue ribbon even more rewarding when I finally did earn it.

At the end of the day I just truly enjoy horse showing and competing, it’s fun! That’s how I want my students to see horse shows as…enjoyable and fun

Photo: Abi Kelley gives her horse, Ishana III an appreciative hug after a great round in the Low Junior Jumpers. By Kirstie Dobbs and Hailey Johns What’s the first question that you ask a young rider when they return home from a horse show? Is it, “How did you ride?” Or, is it, “How did […...

Rusty and Fanta were fantastic on their outing today! Rusty went out on the trails in Three Runs Plantation, schooled in the dressage arena, and jumping arena! Handling it all like a pro ☺️ He is a great little horse and am so happy with how he has turned out! Definitely a proud momma 🥰🥰

KnotJet of Arden, 19 year old Friesian mare in a clinic with Paul Belasik

Re-starting this girl back at 17/18 has not been an easy task. It has been so rewarding after all the hours of practice we can perform the way we did. Yettie always tries her hardest and has the most amazing work ethic, I could not ask for anything more

I am very excited to announce that I am now able to take on more clients!

I offer riding lessons to children, adults and everyone in between! Whether you are riding just for fun or getting ready for the upcoming competition season. I have experience working with young horses and re-starting horses. I am dressage focused but ride and compete in eventing, jumpers, and hunters.

I am based in the Augusta/Evans area, but travel to Aiken 4-5 days a week and even out to Waynesboro 1-2 days a week.
