They say you carry more into the woods than you carry out. And that a dog is man’s best friend. So when you get to go into the woods and run your dogs it’s like stopping the world. At that time nothing else matters. For once your mind is turn off. It’s just you, God and your best friends.

Trapping has always been a passion of mine. I look at as a way of keeping a healthy ecosystem. And a great way to stay in tuned with what is going on with the property. Sure sometimes those early mornings get to you, but there’s no better way to start the day than watching Gods creation awaken.

Water is finally going down!

Today was the first day I was actually able to get into part of the swamp to assess storm damage. A good portion is still under water. Years of work has been washed away. But thankful it isn’t worse.

By the grace of God I’m able to call this my office! It’s important to slow down every once in awhile and remember why we do what we do.

Old tractor dismembered and shrouded in dust
Her body disfigured by horrible rust
Her day is long over, her plowing all done
No more will she flash in the sun

The spark plugs are gone; there’s no fire inside
Her pistons long idle, her spirit has died
She rusts in dishonor, not even a grave
In reward for the service she gave

In a field back of nowhere, abandoned, alone
Been robbed of the seat that was used as a throne
No one to sing to the song of the gears
Everything’s gone with the years...

In her prime she could plow fifteen acres a day
The binder in fall was considered as play
With full tanks she’d boldly strike out at the dawn
Be there until last light had gone.

One way or harrows, she didn’t much care
The belt pull of harvest when fall’s in the air
Her real work, revealing what lay below ground
Each new year when spring rolled around

Yesterday’s gone, must keep with the times
Not much call today for a pitchfork with tines
Computerized cows let themselves out to graze
Tomorrow there’ll be a new craze.

I am still thanking God for this incredible opportunity!Most of you will probably just see this as another trophy hunter post, but I promise you it’s not. My entire life I have been raised as a meat hunter to supply necessary food for my family. I have worked for years to manage and development proper grounds around the country for other people. I have spent countless hours working in my fathers deer processing business. Congratulating every trophy hunter along the way on their great success. I have never taken the time to prioritize a “trophy” for myself. This year, an opportunity presented itself & I took it. After a 300 yard stalk…. he was mine. Not only was this whitetail a personal record, but it was also harvested with my fathers rifle. Now considered a family heirloom - packed full of wisdom and a symbol of love. Amongst the trees is where we belong. Showing the representation of growth. Being wrapped within the strength of The Lord.
