Very sad and unfortunate end for this lovely mare
Rabies is rife in KZN and by law animals should be vaccinated against rabies!
Rabies doesn't just affect domestic pets and animals, livestock are just as much at risk and as pet and livestock owners it's your responsibility to get them vaccinated, there's no excuse!
Our pets and horses are all up to date with their rabies vaccinations, get in touch with your vet if your pets and horses have not been vaccinated or require updated vaccinations.
*** OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT – RABIES TEST RESULTS ***
CHCU wish to alert the public on the results from Onderstepoort after testing the mare that was a suspected rabies case.
THE RESULT IS POSITIVE.
We have alerted all parties concerned who came into contact with the mare.
At this stage we continue with two hourly feeds for the foal. We await the official protocol in terms of the way forward with little “Gundwane”.
We will share the outcome as soon as we have clarity and appreciate the love, prayers and messages of support.
The team are fatigued but continue to hold strong for the sake of our other rescues.
The rural owner and the community of Tafuleni have been alerted of the results.
