We provide hyperlocal, organic produce, eggs, and honey to the Greater Denver area. Shop online! Cristian Valenzuela is a multi-generational farmer, beekeeper, and self-described “gardenerd”. He’s a 1st generation Mexican immigrant, and 3rd generation farmer representing a long history of subsistence farming traditions from Ceballos, Durango, Mexico. As he grew up in Colorado, he became passionate

about the broken global food system, regenerative agriculture, and ideas that spotlight sustainable ways to reform the modern food industry. This all came together In 2019 when Cristian and his parents bought farmland in Aurora, CO. They built a barn, chicken coop, and a greenhouse with the goal to provide sustainable, nutritious food for their family. On this 3 1/2 acre farm, Cristian saw an opportunity to combine tried-and-true, Northern Mexican farming traditions with contemporary permaculture techniques. From this foundation stemmed Los Pinos Farmstead. Los Pinos Farmstead is a concept that envisions a world in which networks of small-scale producers and distributors provide for their hyperlocal food economy using regenerative land stewardship, the least food miles, and the lowest carbon footprint possible. The project’s flagship operation looks at the Greater Denver area to solidify a proof-of-concept and help contribute to hyperlocal food movements around the country with replicable production and distribution models.

This week we’re getting last season’s tomato plants ready for the compost pile! Tomato plants can be tricky to compost and can lead to issues down the line if not done properly.
“Some risks are associated with composting these plants, including insufficient material breakdown, the growth of undesirable volunteer plants, and the spread of disease…A temperature of at least 140°F must be maintained in the compost pile for two weeks to kill the seeds.” (simplifygardening.com)
Colorado’s dry heat and winter freeze makes our region more forgiving than most when it comes to the mold issues, and the other issues can be resolved with proper composting technique. Being a regenerative farm, we put in a lot of effort to keep our nutrient cycle small. Along with increasing water capacity in the soil, this bio matter will feed our soil’s microbiome. This diverse, tiny ecosystem makes our produce incredibly tasty and nutrient rich
