Our Max was featured on the Collieology page. It’s lovely to share his unique personality and lifestyle with everyone.
LIVING THE HIGH LIFE: We love hearing about all the different lives and adventures our followers lead with their dogs all over the world. And that includes Cath Conway’s Max – pictured here – from Australia who has been flying in planes since he was a puppy. He is now 9.
Cath herself began flying gliders some decades ago, when she was studying Computer Science and Engineering at Adelaide University – and she has since become an instructor for their Gilding Club. She then moved on to Motorgliders, then planes and flies a smaller model called a Glasair. As Max now lives with Cath’s son Michael, south of Sydney, she flies over to see him, or pick him up, as by plane the journey is only around 3-4 hours, she says, depending on the wind, whereas by road it would be nearer 15 hours. Cath also owns 3 of Max’s offspring – Bee, 3, Meg, 20 months and Murphy, 13 months.
“Max loves flying,” she says. “He does look out the window for a while first, then usually falls asleep fairly quickly. And he wears special ‘Mutt Muffs’ for hearing protection as the plane is quite loud. Max also likes to travel on a bigger PC12 plane that a friend of Cath’s regularly flies between Adelaide and Tasmania.
“He is a very special boy,” she adds. “One of those ‘been here before’ sort of dogs and many of my friends call him half-human.” And clearly a dog who has also travelled more miles than most!
