We need funds to get Max help! Estimate $1200!
Pectus Excavatum sounds like a spell out of Harry Potter, right? It is actually a serious and sometimes fatal congenital deformity in kittens, also known as “funnel chest” or “flat chest syndrome.” This deformity is when the chest bone/sternum and ribs grow abnormally, or in simple terms- the chest and rib cage are flat or curved inward instead of rounded out. In mild cases kittens can grow and live normal lives. However, in moderate to severe cases, the heart is shifted and both it and the lungs become more strained as the kitty grows; the flattened chest and rib cage do not allow room for the lungs and heart to grow as well. In many cases, kitties will need corrective surgery to survive past kittenhood.
Max is such a happy and sweet boy- he wants so badly to live and play with his sister. This surgery cannot wait as the strain on his heart can cause murmurs or eventually heart failure.
The vet is going to attach an external plate to help pull the sternum and rib cage out, kind of like when an orthodontist places braces to slowly correct teeth alignment. Prognosis is good and the vet is very optimistic this will work for little Oatmeal!
We need to pay the vet in full by end of the day when we pick up Max.Estimate is $1200 (which includes X-Rays, consult, surgery, pain meds and any other meds prescribed by vet). If you are able to contribute to giving Max a chance to survive past kitten hood, please consider donating today. We are asking for Venmo, Zelle or Gift cards donations so we can pay the vet at the end of the day.
